Dublin woman tore out supermarket worker's hair over Facebook post
A mother of one pulled a clump of hair out of a woman's head over a Facebook post in a row described by her defence as a 'cautionary tale on the dangers of social media'.
Robyn Barnwell (25) went to the woman's workplace in a Dublin supermarket and attacked her after the victim posted an 'inflammatory' message that she believed put a member of her family in danger.
Adjourning the case, Judge Treasa Kelly said she would consider applying the Probation Act if Barnwell paid €1,500 in compensation.
The judge acknowledged that the accused had got 'carried away in the heat of the moment', but said that it was 'totally unacceptable behaviour in a civilised society'.
Barnwell, a commercial painter and 'talented footballer', of Raheen Park, Ballyfermot, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm.
Dublin District Court heard the accused went to Aldi, Kylemore Road on August 2 last year, punched the woman in the face several times and pulled a clump of hair from her head.
Barnwell had no previous convictions.
The court heard the victim had posted information on Facebook about a member of Barnwell's family who was married to a man who had been sentenced for a serious crime.
The accused felt this was 'opportunistic' as it was none of the woman's business and it put her relative, who was 'blameless', in danger.
'She appears to have put this post up because she doesn't like the Barnwell family,' defence solicitor Lorraine Stephens said.

The accused knew where the woman was working and went to 'have a discussion with her' but emotions were running high, and there was a verbal altercation that turned physical.
'She accepts she should never have gone to [the victim's] place of business, it was the wrong behaviour for the right reason, she deeply regrets it,' Ms Stephens said.
There was an 'element of provocation' due to the inflammatory language used on the Facebook post and it was a 'cautionary tale of the dangers of social media', Ms Stephens said.
There was 'bad blood' behind the case and the incident was an 'isolated incident provoked by emotional distress'.

Judge calls for more resources in case of alleged Parnell Square attacker
Mr Justice Paul McDermott put the matter back to October 22, noting that 'serious difficulties' were being faced due to the delay in the case A judge has called for resources to be provided to the case of Riad Bouchaker, who is charged with assaulting a care worker and attempting to murder three children on Parnell Square in Dublin. At the Central Criminal Court today, counsel for the prosecution said that the defence have provided a psychiatric report on the accused, but the prosecution is now preparing their own report, which is expected by the middle of October. Mr Justice Paul McDermott put the matter back to October 22, noting that 'serious difficulties' were being faced due to the delay in the case. 'Someone needs to provide resources for this case,' he said. Mr Bouchaker (51), of no fixed abode, is charged with the attempted murder of two girls and one boy. He is also charged with assault causing serious harm to a care worker and possession or production of a knife. The incident occurred at Parnell Square on the afternoon of November 23, 2023. In December last year, the court was told that a psychiatrist assessing the accused man deemed it necessary to have further work carried out by a neuropsychologist. In April, the court heard that the expert's report had been made available, but the psychiatrist requested a further four weeks to review matters. The court also heard that the treating doctor had encountered delays accessing the defendant in prison and with regards to the availability of an interpreter. In May of this year, Mr Justice McDermott noted the age of the complainants and said the case must be given priority as soon as the psychiatric issue was resolved. He asked that everyone involved, including lawyers and professionals, "strain themselves" to ensure it gets on as quickly as possible. When the case returned before the court in June, a senior counsel acting for Mr Bouchaker said that he received the psychiatric report and would make it available to the Director of Public Prosecutions in due course. In February of this year, the Department of Justice and the courts announced a protocol to fast-track trials involving children. The courts have committed to completing the trial process within one year, where possible, if a child is the alleged victim or perpetrator. Nursery ‘paedo', 26, who ‘gave child STD' prompted cops to advise 2,000 kids to get tested ‘after campaign of abuse'
A CHILD from a daycare centre where an alleged paedo is accused of carrying out dozens of sex attacks has reportedly contracted an STD. Joshua Dale Brown, 26, has been charged with raping and abusing eight children aged from five months to two years old in a horror case that has rocked Australia. 2 Joshua Dale Brown, 26, has been charged with a string of horror child sex offences Credit: Facebook The child educator worked across 23 daycare centres in Victoria, sparking fears that he spread sexually transmitted diseases to the young children. The parents of some 2,000 children have been urged by state authorities to test their kids for infections in the wake of his arrest. Sources told Daily Mail Australia one child who attended one of the Melbourne daycare centres where Brown was employed has now tested positive for gonorrhoea. While the Victorian government denied the claim, the Department of Health refused to reject the report. Read more about Australia here A spokesman said: "Test results we've received to date as part of this investigation reaffirm that the risk is low." Tests are ongoing after the mass panic sparked by Brown's arrest on July 1. Cops did not reveal if Brown himself had tested positive for an STI but said the manner of the alleged abuse means children should get checked. The alleged attacker worked at 23 centres over eight years from January 2017 to May 2025. Most read in The US Sun Police say he carried out the abuse on eight children between April 2022 and January 2023. He is expected to be hit with further charges beyond the 73 he currently faces for sexually penetrating children, sexual activity in the presence of a child and contaminating food. 2 Cops say the majority of Brown's offences took place at the Creative Gardens Early Learning Centre in Point Cook Credit: Facebook He has also been charged with producing and transmitting child abuse material, and sexually touching a child under 16. Brown appeared in court yesterday and will return in February after the magistrate approved a police request for an extension. Horrified parents have questioned how Brown passed screening to work with children. While he had a valid Working with Children Check, he was allegedly reported to state authorities two years ago for his behaviour, though it was unrelated to sexual misconduct. In response, childcare operator G8 Education said they would accelerate the rollout of security cameras across 400 centres. Brown was arrested after cops started investigating another man, Michael Simon Wilson, for the alleged rape of a teenage boy in a nearby area. Detectives examining Wilson's devices found material linking him to Brown and the two men are known to each other, sources told ABC. Wilson has been hit with 45 charges including rape, bestiality and possessing child abuse material. The pair are yet to enter a plea and it is unclear how they know each other. However they have appeared together in a photo shared online by Brown's partner. Brown has employed top barrister Rishi Nathwani KC to his defence, who is trying to have his client's charge sheets withheld from the media. But Magistrate Donna Bakos told him they are already a matter of public record. Cops say the majority of Brown's offences took place at the Creative Gardens Early Learning Centre in Point Cook.
