CM raises awareness on ‘World Day Against Human Trafficking'
She added, 'National commitment against human trafficking implies 'Leave no Child Behind, in the fight against human trafficking'.'
She highlighted, 'Punjab Government is determined to end illegal trafficking of children who are my red line, their protection is my top priority. I am determined that every child of Punjab should be protected against human trafficking.'
The CM underscored, 'Exploitation of children is not tolerated under any circumstances. Parents should protect their children, who go in search of employment, from trafficking.'
She appealed to the people to adopt legal and safe routes for foreign travel. She noted, 'Death of dozens of people in a boat capsize, while going to Europe through illegal means was a great human tragedy.'
The Chief Minister said, 'Human traffickers do not hesitate to play with public lives in their lust for wealth. The Punjab government is committed to zero-tolerance policy against human trafficking.'

Meanwhile, congratulating the Chinese government, people and armed forces on the 98th founding anniversary of People's Liberation Army (PLA), the chief minister said, "Role of Chinese armed forces for national and global peace is commendable. We salute our 'iron brother'." She added,"Pak-China relations are not limited to state or defence interests, but are also ties of hearts." She highlighted,"Pak-China defence cooperation is a bright symbol of everlasting friendship." The chief minister said, "Professionalism, modern military strategy and spirit of national service of People's Liberation Army are exemplary." Punjab enforces 'pay polluters' law
In a landmark development for environmental protection, the Punjab government has formally enacted the "Pay Polluters Rules," a new law mandating heavy penalties for individuals and organizations responsible for pollution that poses a threat to public health. The legislation, approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, makes Punjab the first province in Pakistan to adopt international standards for pollution control. The new law introduces significant fines for air, water, and land pollution, with an emphasis on accountability and deterrence. To ensure effective enforcement, the government has simultaneously launched a real-time digital monitoring system across ten designated environmental zones. Trump tariffs: An export opportunity Pakistan can grab
The recent United States (US) tariff decision, placing a 19% rate on Pakistani exports, is more encouraging than it first appears. In a world where India faces 25%, Bangladesh 20% and Vietnam 20%, Pakistan's relatively lower rate is a diplomatic and economic win. It shows the US still sees space for Pakistan in its supply chains - a welcome shift in a world growing more protectionist. The government deserves credit for avoiding the harshest tariff brackets, which have hit others with rates as high as 40%. But this breathing space must be used wisely. We're in a better lane - but we still need to drive faster. Markets don't wait for the prepared - they reward the proactive. Pakistan now has a limited window to act: we must push aggressively into value-added sectors and grab the market share slipping from our higher-tariffed competitors. Pakistan has the highest tax burden in the region, coupled with the most expensive electricity and gas tariffs among peer economies. The recent withdrawal of the Export Finance Scheme (EFS) - a facility that India, Bangladesh, and even Vietnam continue to provide under various names -adds further cost pressure. These structural disadvantages must be addressed urgently if we're to compete fairly. Despite this, the opportunity is real. With major players like India and Myanmar now priced out of several categories, Pakistani products -particularly in garments, leather and surgical goods - can step in. But they'll need targeted incentives, modernisation support, and trade diplomacy to get there. Markets don't wait for the prepared - they reward the proactive. We can't control tariff policy abroad, but we can shape our response. Let's make this the start of Pakistan's export transformation - not another missed chance.
