TV star calls for band's visas to be revoked after 'aggressive' political Coachella performance
TV personality Sharon Osborne is calling for a Northern Irish hip-hop band's U.S. work visas to be revoked after the band made 'aggressive' anti-Israel messages a part of their Coachella performance.
On April 18, Belfast-based trio Kneecap projected three pro-Palestine phrases on a screen behind them at the end of their second set at the California music festival, the BBC reported.
The first message read 'Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people,' according to the BBC. It was followed by 'It is being enabled by the US government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes,' and finally and most controversially, 'F*** Israel. Free Palestine.'
Kneecap 'took their performance to a different level by incorporating aggressive political statements,' Osborne wrote on Instagram Tuesday.
'This behavior raises concerns about the appropriateness of their participation in such a festival and further shows they are booked to play in the USA,' she wrote.
In a response to Osborne's criticism shared with Rolling Stone magazine, Kneecap member Mo Chara said the band has been outspoken in its support of the Palestinian people since its inception in 2017.
'We believe we have an obligation to use our platform when we can to raise the issue of Palestine, and it was important for us to speak out at Coachella as the USA is the main funder and supplier of weapons to Israel as they commit genocide in Gaza,' he told the magazine. 'As I said from the stage, 'The U.S. government could stop the genocide tomorrow.' It's important that young Americans hear and know it.'
The U.S. State Department generally doesn't comment on specific visa cases out of concern for privacy and visa confidentiality, it said in a statement to the BBC.
Notably though, the department also stated that, when considering revocations, it 'looks at information that arises after the visa was issued that may indicate a potential visa ineligibility under US immigration laws, pose a threat to public safety, or other situations where revocation is warranted.'
Osborne criticized Goldenvoice, Coachella's organizers, for allowing Kneecap to play a second set at the festival. If they weren't aware of the band's intent to display political messages prior to its first set, they should've been after it, she argued. The fact that Goldenvoice allowed Kneecap to perform 'suggests support of their rhetoric and a lack of due diligence,' Osborne wrote.
During Kneecap's first Coachella performance, the band had planned to include pro-Palestine messages, but their set was cut short, Chara told Rolling Stone.
'It's not surprising, large companies don't like to hear the truth unless it suits their narrative and pocket,' he said.
Osborne is of both Irish Catholic and Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, so she 'understands the complexities' involved in the issue of Israel-Palestine, she wrote in the Instagram post.
But during Kneecap's second Coachella set, Chara drew parallels between the history of the Irish people and that of the Palestinians, the BBC reported.
'The Irish not so long ago were persecuted at the hands of the Brits, but we were never bombed from the ... skies with nowhere to go. The Palestinians have nowhere to go,' he said.
By the end of the set, the crowd could be heard chanting 'Free Palestine,' the BBC reported.
'The crowd chanting 'Free Palestine' at Coachella was a message of solidarity to the people of Gaza from regular Americans who want to see an end to the genocide, despite their government's arming and funding Israel,' Chara told Rolling Stone.

Scottish Love Island star Laura Anderson has opened up on her health struggles while enjoying a holiday with her footballer boyfriend. The 36-year-old has shared moments from their break in the Maldives at the luxury Kandima beach resort. She also asked her followers if they would like treatment recommendations or advice, if anyone may be suffering from a similar skin condition. "Do you suffer from pigmentation/melasma/sun spots?," she asked. "Okay guys I have been in the sun all day, always wear my factor 50 and my hat but I think with melasma you still get affected with just the heat so I always try and keep my face really cool. "That's a tip that I learnt, but I'm going to see Rebecca now but look," she gestured as she pointed her face towards the camera. "I don't know if you can see this all kind of multiplied again come back, this is me completely bare faced." She continued: "You can see it here there's definitely a difference between freckles. I love freckles, love to embrace them, but sun spots, melasma, pigmentation is different and can be quite ageing. "I quite like the little bits on my lips but I just want to remove that and Rebecca has all the best lasers in Dubai," as she gestured to her cheekbones. "She always teaches me things and has new techniques that I've never heard of before which are incredibly effective." The star added: "So we are going to go today with pico, really quick easy. I don't think there's any down time so yeah, let's get rid of this." Elsewhere, Laura took to Instagram last week following her house move in a gushing post over how lucky she is in her new home alongside daughter Bonnie, who she shares with ex Gary Lucy. The first clip showed the couple sharing a kiss in the expansive outdoor garden. Another video clip showed Laura holding daughter Bonnie as she stood at the front entrance of her new home with Clark. The home boasts grand floor to ceiling windows offering plenty of natural light, looking out onto the impressive garden. Bonnie even has her own play room, which Laura showed off to fans previously. Walton Goggins And Aimee Lou Wood Break Silence On Feud Rumours
Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood have given a joint interview in which they addressed the media scrutiny they've been under in the last few months. The pair were co-stars in the most recent season of The White Lotus, but found themselves at the centre of speculation when it was spotted that they were no longer following one another on Instagram just before the finale aired. In fact, it even appeared that Walton had gone as far as blocking Aimee on the platform, although both parties had still been speaking favourably about one another at the time, most notably in separate social media posts, which were soundtracked by the Fleetwood Mac anthem Silver Springs. Walton then failed to join most of the cast at a viewing party for the White Lotus finale, in which both he and Aimee played pivotal roles. During a new interview with Variety, Walton put his absence down to his busy schedule as he had been filming the new season of Fallout. However, he told Aimee as part of their joint interview: 'I wish I would have been able to watch this with you. It was so cathartic and so painful, and I regret that. I really do.' Walton later added: 'There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me. '[She] is Goldie Hawn. [She] is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will. You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be.' 'We care about each other very deeply,' he added. The Emmy nominee also said that he'd chosen not to dispel the feud reports during a now-infamous interview with The Times because he didn't want to 'speak for both of us' when Aimee wasn't present. Similarly, she chose to remain schtum on the 'feud' reports until now because she felt anything she said would be misconstrued, instead opting to 'sit back and watch these people making something out of absolutely nothing'. HBO As for his unfollowing Aimee on Instagram, Walton put this down to wanting to put some distance between himself and The White Lotus once the show was over. 'I knew what we had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea,' he said, apparently beginning to tear up. 'And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let her know, this is what I've gotta do. And she was extremely supportive about that.' It's noted in Variety 's piece that Walton had more of a personal connection to Thailand than most of the rest of the cast, as he went travelling near where The White Lotus was filmed years earlier after his first wife died by suicide. Branding the media furore 'ridiculous', he concluded: 'I'm emotional because we haven't been in the same city to ever talk about this. So for me, this is just so wonderful.' Variety noted that the interview took place on the first weekend of May, shortly before both actors walked the red carpet separately at this year's Met Gala. Since then, Walton's wife Nadia Conners has also spoken out about rumours of an affair between her husband and his White Lotus co-star, which she took in good humour.

Ben-Gvir calls for Gaza occupation after IDF recovers hostages' remains
Ben-Gvir and other politicians call for the return of hostages using any force necessary, as the people of Israel send hugs and condolences with broken hearts to the families of Judith and Gadi. Following the IDF's recovery of the bodies of Judith Weinstein Haggai and her husband, Gadi Haggai, from Gaza, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called on the IDF to occupy Gaza and encourage Palestinian emigration from the Strip in a Thursday social media post. "It is time to stop hesitating, authorize the IDF to implement the plans to occupy the Strip, enter with full force, dismantle Hamas, release the hostages, and encourage immigration. We must not miss this historic opportunity!" The national security minister said that the return of the bodies of the couple is both painful and good news. He stated that he feels the pain of the family and the Nir Oz community and sends them a hug in this painful time, and sends condolences from the bottom of his heart. He saluted the IDF and Shin Bet and continued that although the return of the bodies is a difficult moment, it is proof that military force can bring our loved ones home. He went on to state that surrender is not an option in the face of cruel terrorism. Many others sent their condolences while also calling for the return of all hostages, using any means necessary. Opposition head and Yesh Atid chair, MK Yair Lapid, sent his sincere condolences to the family and congratulated the IDF and Shin Bet on their operation. "We will not stop fighting until the 56 abductees are returned to Israel," he shared. "The State of Israel has a moral and national obligation to bring back all of our brothers and sisters, both living and deceased, and we will continue to act decisively until this mission is complete,' Defense Minister Israel Katz stated. National Unity head, MK Benny Gantz, posted that his heart goes out to the families and the entire Nir Oz community. He continued speaking of the determination of the IDF and Shin Bet to continue operating and not give up trying to find the hostages, dead or alive. Saying that, " is precisely our DNA as Israelis and as Jews. No one must be left behind." Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, shared his condolences with the Hagai-Weinstein and Nir Oz families. He saluted the soldiers in reserve and regular service, who are fighting to return all the hostages, living or dead. He continued, "Our commitment to the return of the kidnapped and Israel's security accompanies us every day. We will continue to do everything to bring everyone home." Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared in a statement the details of the special operation to retrieve the hostages. He went on to extend condolences from him and his wife to the families and to honor the commanders and fighters for their successful mission. He concluded, "We will not rest or be silent until we return all of our hostages home - the living and the dead alike." Israeli President Isaac Herzog posted, "The return of the bodies of the late Judy Lynn Weinstein Hagai and the late Gadi Hagai is a moment of deep pain, alongside comfort and the resolution of doubts." He ended, "We will continue to work with all our might to restore our sisters and brothers from hell – the living to rehabilitation and healing, and the dead to the grave of Israel. Until the last of them!" Democratic leader Yair Golan took to Twitter to say he shared the grief of the family and the entire Nir Oz from the bottom of his heart. He continued by saying his heart is with the 56 captives in Gaza and their families. He concluded, "We will not recover until they all return. We have to bring everyone back." Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman (Likud) stated, 'This is our duty — to bring back all the hostages, both the living and the deceased. This is not mere rhetoric. Unity and mutual responsibility are the bedrock of our society's existence here, and it is our obligation to bring them all home.' Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana (Likud) posted on behalf of the Knesset that he shares the grief of the families and loved ones of the recovered hostages. He went on to say, "This operation, like its predecessors, emphasizes the State of Israel's commitment to returning all 56 of our kidnapped brothers and sisters who remain in captivity by terrorist organizations." Nir Oz shared the statement from Judith and Gadi's family. The family of Judith and Gadi conveyed their gratitude for the closure that they can now bury the bodies of their loved ones. They thanked the IDF and security forces that performed the rescue operation and have been fighting for the last year and a half. They also wanted to thank "everyone who supported, fought, prayed, and struggled on our behalf and for all the people of Israel." They also thanked the Trump administration, along with the Israeli government and the FBI, for all of their work and support. They concluded by saying, "However, our hearts will not be at peace until all 12 hostages from Nir Oz, and all 56 hostages overall, are brought back.'
