Dembele voted player of the year in France
Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele was named the Ligue 1 player of the year on Sunday, after leading the club to a 13th French title and the Champions League final.
Dembele is the top scorer in Ligue 1 this season with 21 goals and has struck 33 times in 46 matches across all competitions, including eight goals in Europe.
He succeed sKy lian Mbappe who won the prize five times in a row before departing for Real Madrid at the end of last season.
Luis Enrique earned coach of the year honours at the UNFP (French players' union) Trophies gala, while Desire Doue took home the prize for the best young player in Ligue 1.
Lille's Lucas Chevalier denied PSG a clean sweep of the accolades as he beat Gianluigi Donnarumma to the best goalkeeper award.
PSG are on course for a treble after easing to an 11th Ligue 1 title in 13 years. They will play Inter Milan in the Champions League final on May 31, a week after facing Reims in the French Cup showpiece.

PSG get Ligue 1 title defence off to winning start
AFP | Paris Paris Saint-Germain got their defence of the Ligue 1 title off to a winning start on Sunday as Vitinha's deflected strike proved enough to earn the European champions a 1-0 victory away to Nantes. The Portuguese midfielder's effort midway through the second half beat goalkeeper Anthony Lopes with the aid of a wicked deflection off Nantes defender Chidozie Awaziem to break the deadlock. PSG were made to work hard for their victory as coach Luis Enrique made seven changes to his starting line-up following the UEFA Super Cup win on penalties against Tottenham Hotspur in midweek. That was the first game of the new campaign for last season's Champions League winners, who only began pre-season training on August 6 having gone all the way to the Club World Cup final in the United States in mid-July. They did not play any friendly matches prior to that and are therefore likely to require several weeks before getting close to the level at which they performed last season. However, they still had enough against a hard-working but punchless Nantes side, playing a first competitive match under new Portuguese coach Luis Castro. 'I am very happy because the first objective in these matches is the victory and I think we deserved the three points,' Luis Enrique said. 'We were in control throughout, playing away from home. In the first half we didn't create much but that is normal because it is difficult against a team defending so deep.' Asked about his team's lack of preparation for the start of the new season, the Spanish coach added: 'Today we saw that our players are ready and wanted to show the level they can perform at. 'They all need time which I think is normal but we will look more comfortable with the ball once we have a few more games under our belts.'

Forest sign French forward Kalimuendo
French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo has signed a fiveyear contract with Nottingham Forest, the Premier League club announced on Monday. According to French media, the transfer paid to ex-club Rennes is believed to be at least 30 million euros ($35 million). 'Nottingham Forest is delighted to announce the signing of Arnaud Kalimuendo, who joins the club on a five-year deal,' read a statement on the English club's website. The 23-year-old came through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain, before enjoying a breakthrough season at Ligue 1 side Rennes last year when he netted 18 times in 34 appearances in all competitions. Prior to joining Rennes in 2022, he made five appearances for PSG and enjoyed success during loan spells at Lens -- scoring 21 goals in 65 outings. 'When I heard about the interest from Forest, I was honoured. This is a proud moment for me, joining a team who had a strong season last year and a club with great history,' said Kalimuendo.
