Nobody will dare touch a Hindu or a nationalist Muslim Bengali: Samik
BJP
president Samik Bhattacharya said on Friday amid allegations of harassment faced by Bengali-speaking migrants in multiple BJP-governed states.
Bhattacharya, who had earlier said BJP was not against Muslims, said a narrative was being crafted to create a fear psychosis.
Bengal BJP netas, however, reiterated that those "faking Indian citizenship" would be identified.
"There is a deliberate attempt to create fear psychosis among people. Nobody can touch even the hair of a Hindu, Hindu refugees or and Indian Muslims. BJP will stand by them," Bhattacharya said.
He was answering questions regarding the "targeted harassment" of migrant workers and the alleged deletion of bona fide names from the voters' lists.
"There are Hindus and Muslims who stayed back in India after the partition. They don't have to fear anything. Whichever commission comes here, the BJP will stand by them," Bhattacharya said. "Messages are being sent every day to scare migrant workers from Bengal. None of the state govts are against the Bengali migrant workers who went to those states in search of work.
However, it is also true that speaking in Bangla is not the only criterion for being a voter or a bona fide resident of Bengal," he added.

Earlier in the day, Union minister and former state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said names of no genuine voter will be deleted from the electoral roll. "We are talking about those who are faking as voters in Bengal without any credentials. Their names will definitely be deleted and that cannot be altered," Majumdar said.
Bengal LOP Suvendu Adhikari, in a press conference on Thursday, said names of persons under four categories might get deleted from the electoral roll. "Dead voters, double-entry voters, fake voters and illegal Muslim immigrants' names will not be on the voters' list," he said.
Bhattacharya alleged Trinamool is demanding retention of names of "dead voters" in the electoral roll. "This cannot be the stand of a political party. They are trying to undermine a constitutional body and intimidate its officials," he said.

Union Minister stresses coordination to fast-track ROB projects in Guntur
Coordination between Central, State and local authorities is essential to complete Road Over Bridge (ROB) projects quickly and transform Guntur into a traffic-free city within two years, said Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar on Saturday (August 2). He was chairing a review meeting at his camp office in Guntur with railway officials, municipal authorities and local legislators to assess the progress of seven sanctioned ROBs. Mr. Pemmasani said that the ROBs are in various stages, some under construction, others in tender or awaiting land acquisition and technical clearance. He emphasised that all hurdles must be addressed with urgency and unity to ensure timely completion. Key discussions focused on Nehru Nagar, Syamalnagar and Sanjeevaiah Nagar ROBs. Guntur East MLA Mohammad Naseer Ahmad highlighted the decades-old Nehru Nagar ROB issue and said railway officials have agreed to expedite work and sanctioned ₹7 crore for expansion. Guntur Divisional Railway Manager Sudeshna Sen thanked Mr. Pemmasani for prioritising infrastructure and assured that all proposals would be integrated into the railway division's master plan to support Guntur's long-term development.

Constitution under siege, BJP doing ideological coup to replace republic with theocratic state: Sonia
Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday (August 2, 2025) alleged that the Constitution is 'under siege' as the ruling BJP is using its power to dismantle the very framework it long opposed. She alleged that the BJP is seeking to bring an 'ideological coup' by replacing our democratic republic with a theocratic corporate state serving the powerful few. In her special message read out at the day-long national legal conclave on 'Constitutional Challenges - Perspectives and Pathways', Ms. Gandhi said the Congress would oppose every attempt to undermine the Constitution in Parliament, in courts and on the streets, asserting that it is not just a political but an ideological commitment to defend every Indian's dignity. 'Today, the Constitution is under siege. The BJP-RSS, which never fought for freedom or upheld equality, now uses its power to dismantle the very framework it long opposed,' she said. 'Their ideological forebears glorified Manusmriti, rejected the tricolour, and envisioned a Hindu rashtra, where democracy is hollow and discrimination is the law. In power, they've eroded institutions, criminalised dissent, targeted minorities and betrayed Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs and the working poor. 'Now they seek to erase socialism and secularism, pillars of Ambedkar's vision of equal citizenship. This is not reform, but an ideological coup replacing our democratic republic with a theocratic corporate state serving the powerful few,' the former Congress chief alleged. She stressed that India yearns for the inclusive, just and democratic nation envisaged by our freedom fighters and Constitution makers. 'That is what the Congress party stands and fights for. We will oppose every attempt to undermine the Constitution, in Parliament, in courts, and on the streets. This is not just political, it is our ideological commitment to defend every Indian's dignity. I commend Abhishek Manu Singhvi and his team for reigniting this vital conversation.
