Majority of Filipinos support impeachment trial for VP Sara Duterte — OCTA
The survey shows that 80% of respondents agreed that Duterte should stand trial to respond to the allegations against her. Fourteen percent disagreed, while 7% were either undecided or declined to answer.
Support for the trial was recorded across all regions: 87% in the National Capital Region, 77% in Balance Luzon, 92% in the Visayas, and 69% in Mindanao. High support was also consistent across socio-economic classes, with 80% from Classes A to D, and 78% from Class E.
Among those who supported the impeachment trial, 59% said Duterte should answer the charges, clear her name, and prove she deserves to stay in office. Twenty-one percent said they believed in the charges, while 16% said undergoing trial is necessary if she plans to run in the 2028 elections.
Of those who opposed the trial, 44% said it was a political conflict between Duterte and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., 33% said they believed in her integrity and rejected the accusations, and 19% said she should focus on public service instead.
The survey was conducted from July 12 to 17, 2025, through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 Filipino adults aged 18 and above.
The results were released a week after the Supreme Court declared the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte unconstitutional. The decision stemmed from a petition filed by Duterte and lawyer Israelito Torreon, among others.
Supreme Court spokesperson Camille Ting clarified that the ruling does not absolve Duterte of the charges, and that a new impeachment complaint may be filed starting February 6, 2026.
Three impeachment complaints were filed against Duterte in December 2024, all linked to the alleged misuse of confidential funds. A fourth complaint, endorsed by more than one-third of House lawmakers, was transmitted to the Senate.
Duterte has denied the allegations and pleaded 'not guilty,' calling the impeachment complaint a mere 'scrap of paper.'

Livelihood programs have enabled tens of thousands of PDLs to generate income, with total earnings exceeding PHP 100 million in the last year alone. Even civic rights are being restored. In a landmark accomplishment, over 31,000 inmates participated in the 2025 midterm elections, reinforcing the agency's commitment to restoring dignity and democratic participation behind bars. Internally, the BJMP has strengthened its human resources by hiring thousands of new officers, improving the officer-to-inmate ratio, and reducing jail incidents by 10%. Recognition has followed, with the agency receiving awards for public financial management, digital governance, and institutional transparency. The bureau's new leadership has also deepened engagement with international and local stakeholders, including the United Nations, Red Cross, and the Department of Agrarian Reform, to improve healthcare, nutrition, and rights-based policies inside jails. Bill filed in House to require annual SALN disclosure of top officials
Lawmakers from the Liberal Party and the ML party-list have filed a bill seeking to require the annual public disclosure of the Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) of the President, Vice President, and other high-ranking government officials. House Bill No. 2897, also known as the proposed 'People's Freedom of Information Act of 2025,' was filed Monday at the House of Representatives. Under the measure, SALNs of Cabinet members, senators, House lawmakers, justices of the Supreme Court, commissioners of constitutional bodies, and generals of the Armed Forces of the Philippines must be published yearly on the official websites of their respective offices. The bill also mandates all branches of government to publish and update monthly a register of 'public interest transactions' on their websites. These include itemized collections and disbursements, summaries of income and expenditures, procurement plans and contracts, agreements involving public-private partnerships, and public funding extended to private entities. All Filipino citizens would be granted the right to request and access any record held by government agencies. The proposed law obligates public officials and agencies to disclose information on official acts, transactions, decisions, and research data used in policy-making. 'We would want to push for more transparency and accountability sa gobyerno natin, lalo na na maraming mga usapin tungkol sa korapsyon at laganap 'yung ating mga disinformation,' ML party-list Representative Leila de Lima said.
