Karan Johar
's
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani
bagged the award for best popular film for wholesome entertainment at the 71st National Film Awards.
Alia Bhatt
and Ranveer Singh play the protagonists in the film, but it was Tollywood actors
Churni Ganguly
and
Tota Roy Chowdhury
who emerged as the true show-stealers.
Tota, who portrayed Alia's father and the Kathak dancer Chondon, received widespread acclaim across the country for his performance.
The actor, expressing his happiness at the film's prestigious win, said, 'I am truly happy for Karan sir, for the immense hard work he put into this film — and this prestigious award is a recognition of that. After a gap of seven years, Karan sir began working on it during the first wave of the pandemic, and even through the second wave, he never gave up. From managing social distancing on set, employing monitors, regular testing, to ensuring sanitisation protocols — every step was carefully executed. And the result is a film that came out a winner. I messaged Karan sir after I got the news, and instead, he congratulated me, saying — 'You played your role with such grace.' While it is Karan sir's film, he always makes sure that every actor, big or small, shines. For him, it's their contribution that matters more than his own.' He added, 'The award for Best Choreography also went to
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani
for the vibrant number
Dhindhora Baje Re
, choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant. So, it's a double bonanza for the film.'

Special Ops 2 actor Karan Tacker opens up about his journey in acting ‘Mujhe 15 saal lage hain…'

Actor Karan Tacker, best known for his powerful performance as Farooq Ali in Kay Kay Menon starrer Special Ops 2, has come a long way in his acting journey. Starting in television, he gained popularity for his charming presence but yearned to break out of the typical roles. Over the years, he worked hard to refine his craft and patiently waited for the right opportunities. His role in Special Ops and Khakee: The Bihar Chapter marked a turning point, showcasing his depth as an actor and earning him critical acclaim. How was Karan Tacker's road to success to establish himself? During a conversation with when Karan was asked about how was his entire journey as outsider, without having ties within industry, Karan mentioned that he started from Television industry because films won't accept him as hero. Karan said, ' It was definetely not easy, the reason I started from television was films would not accept me as lead, aur mujhe 15 saal lage hain apne kaam ko prove karne mein ki main kaam kar sakta hoon. Aaj main jis kisi mein kaam karta hoon, wo meri dridhta ki wajah se hai and main isme laga hua hoon kyunki mujhe kaam karna acha lagta hai, toh main inn cheezon ko apne raaste mein aane nahin deta ki main kis medium se aata hu ya kya meri dikkatein kitni rahi hain, but definetely, ek outsider ke liye iss industry mein kaam karna bilkul aasan nahi rehta because of the multiple facts like, if you put it as a journalist that it's challenging to get outsider the same work that everyone is doing.' He further continued and said, ' But, ummeed yahi hoti hai that you keep working and keep working hard kyunki, jo aapka kaam hai wahi aapke liye sabse bada spokesperson ban jata hai and usi ki badaulat apko naya kaam milta hai.' (But, it is expected that you keep working and keep working hard because your work becomes the biggest spokesperson for you and because of that, you get new work.) Karan Tacker on his working experience in the TV industry Speaking further, Karan also shared about his days from the television industry and about the hectic schedules, pay disparity and how was his experience of transitioning into films and OTT sector. Karan said, ' Mujhe pay disparity ke baare mein itna pata nahi hai, but as far as TV as medium is concerned, I think television is a more female-centric medium than a male-centric medium. So usually its the women who are getting paid. So, usually, it's the women who are getting paid and the narrative is around them more than the men.' Karan continued and spoke about transitioning and working in all three sectors. He said, ' Koi challenge aise hai nahi, like har kaam ka apna ek challenge hota hai, aaj aap office jaate hain but jab aapki chutti rehti hai aur uss din apko koi kaam par bula le toh aap usko zindagi se jodkar toh baith nahi jayenge, kyunki ye ek kaam hai aur aapko kaam karne ke liye bulaya hai toh apko kaam karna hai. I think, as actor hum bhi use karte hai iss principle ko ki har ek medium ka apna tarika hai kaam karne ka, har ek medium ka apna ek working style hai. Mera bas yahi maanna hai ki as long as mere paas kaam hai toh sabse important wo hai mere liye, ab wo chahe mujhse 1 ghanta kaam karwayein ya 20 ghante, main kaam karne mein zyada khush hoon, kyunki mujhe cheezon ko lekar zyada complaint karne ki aadat aise rahi nahin hai toh main naa tab TV mein karta tha, naa ab OTT mein karta hoon, main kaam ko lekar humesha excited hi rehta hoon, kyunki as an actors hum kitne hi din kaam kar lein ek saal mein 200 din, ab unn 200 dinon mein bhi khaami nikaalna mera general attitude hai nahin. ' (There is no challenge like this, like every work has its own challenge, today you go to office but when you are free and that day someone calls you for some work, you will not link it to your life and sit down, because this is a work and you have been called to do work so you have to do the work. I think, as actors we also use this principle that every medium has its own way of doing work, every medium has its own working style. I just believe that as long as I have work then that is the most important thing for me. Now whether he makes me work for 1 hour or 20 hours, I will be happier working because I do not have the habit of complaining too much about things, so neither did I work in TV then, nor do I work in OTT now. I am always excited about work because as actors we may work for how many days, 200 days in a year, now finding faults even in those 200 days is not my general attitude.)

Sarzameen director Kayoze Irani on Ibrahim Ali Khan's stutter in film: 'Wanted him to be vulnerable'

Director Kayoze Irani recently opened up about the thought process behind Ibrahim Ali Khan's character in 'Sarzameen', revealing how the young actor's real-life speech issues shaped a key aspect of the role. In a chat with The Indian Express, Kayoze Irani said the character's stutter wasn't written for Ibrahim but eventually became central to the performance. 'The speech issue was there in the film before Ibrahim was even a part of it. But I wanted the relatability to be there. I brought it out of him. Because the character needed to be vulnerable. In the non-aggressive scenes, I definitely wanted him to be vulnerable. So we designed the scenes around Ibrahim,' Irani shared. Ibrahim, who has earlier spoken about suffering from a speech impediment and hearing problems due to a severe case of jaundice shortly after birth, channelled those experiences into his performance. Irani also discussed how Ibrahim came on board 'Sarzameen', a project originally intended to be his debut. 'With Ibrahim, I was on the set of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023). Ibrahim was an AD (Assistant Director). He was filling in for Ranveer Singh as they were setting up the shot. Karan sir and I both were sitting behind the monitor and we felt he's got a face for the camera. So we decided to launch him. We did an audition, readings, and a six-month workshop by Atul Mongia with him. That's how we brought him onboard.' 'Sarzameen', featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kajol, and Ibrahim Ali Khan in the main roles, is directed by Kayoze Irani. The film released on JioHotstar on July 25. the film tells the story of an Indian Army officer who learns that his long-estranged son has become a militant, whose only aim is to kill his father.
