PKR Serian chief hopes qualified Bidayuh will be appointed Senator to represent community in Dewan Negara
KUCHING (April 24): Re-elected Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Serian branch chief Senior William Rade has expressed hope that a Bidayuh representative will be appointed as a Senator to voice the community's interests in the Dewan Negara.
He said this request reflects the collective aspiration of the Serian branch, where the majority of members are Bidayuh.
'We at the branch level respectfully request party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at his discretion, to consider appointing a qualified Bidayuh to serve as Senator in his government, representing the community.
'We, the Bidayuh, as a whole are strongly behind the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,' he said today.
Senior made the remarks after successfully defending his position as branch chairman in the recently concluded PKR Serian election, where he secured 148 votes, defeating challenger Tay Wei Wei who received 110.
He noted that PKR branches nationwide recently held elections to select office-bearers for the 2025–2028 term.
'The election was carried out by using online and offline system. Perhaps PKR is the first party in the country to use digitised online system. The process was very challenging as the system was new to party members,' added Senior.
Now that the election results are official, Senior called on all members to set aside differences and unite for the betterment of the party.
'This is the time to strengthen the party and ensure that the party president, our Prime Minister, will continue to helm and lead the country for another term,' he said. Bidayuh Dewan Negara PKR Serian senator Senior William Rade

Go on the offensive ahead of next general election, PKR told
Former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said the party must showcase what the government has achieved in a way that can't be denied. PETALING JAYA : PKR must adopt a more aggressive political strategy if the party hopes to secure victory in the next general election, says its former deputy president Rafizi Ramli. He said the party's approach should be focused on two key aspects, that is, by aggressively highlighting the current government's tangible achievements, and openly exposing weaknesses or scandals involving opposition leaders. 'We have to showcase what the government has achieved in a way that can't be denied. At the same time, we must expose failures and scandals involving opposition figures,' the former economy minister said on his podcast last night. However, Rafizi claimed that such strategies are currently missing from the PKR leadership's approach. Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured a total of 82 seats at the last general election in 2022 (GE15), with PKR contributing 31 of those seats. While this marked a decline of 16 seats from the 47‑seat count in GE14 in 2018, PKR remained the second-largest party within the coalition behind DAP (40 seats). In May, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim called for all PKR leaders and members to strengthen the party in preparation for the next general election (GE16), which must be held by early 2028. Anwar, who is also the prime minister, added that PKR must reject the politics of hatred, slander and racism, which will only divide the people and weaken the country.

New PKR appointees ‘on same page' as leadership, says analyst
(from left) Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Shamsul Iskandar Akin were appointed as the heads of the Johor and Melaka chapters of PKR, while Sim Tze Tzin was made the party's new strategic director. PETALING JAYA : An analyst says the appointment of PKR's new strategic director and several state chiefs is aimed at facilitating the party's workflow, as they are more aligned with the top leadership. Mazlan Ali of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia cited the appointments of PKR strategic director Sim Tze Tzin, replacing Akmal Nasir, as well as Dr Zaliha Mustafa as Johor PKR chief, taking over from Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh. Akmal and Syed Ibrahim were running mates with Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli in the PKR elections in May, which saw Rafizi losing the party's deputy presidency. 'Syed Ibrahim also attended Rafizi's press conference on the judicial appointments issue. 'So this new line-up of leaders could be said to be more on the same page with the top leadership of the party,' Mazlan told FMT. Other appointments announced yesterday included Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's senior political secretary, Shamsul Iskandar Akin, as Melaka PKR chief, and Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, another political aide to Anwar, taking over as Pahang PKR head. Tawfik Yaakub of Universiti Malaya said the changes were a normal matter for any party after undergoing internal elections. He said such steps were necessary to revamp and strengthen the party, especially ahead of a series of elections, starting with the Sabah polls this year and eventually the 16th general election in several years' time. Also due in the coming years are the Sarawak, Melaka, and Johor state elections. Tawfik said Sim's appointment could help PKR formulate holistic strategies for the polls, not only focusing on Malay support but also giving non-Malay leaders a bigger role. He added that Shamsul and Farhan's appointments were unsurprising given their government positions. 'This can ease communications from the PKR president (Anwar) to the state chiefs,' he said.
