Its publicity secretary Tan Lik Jin said the project, initially promoted as an initiative to support small traders, has instead become a national embarrassment due to inflated costs, poor site selection, and low usage. 'This is a high-cost, low-impact project that has rightfully drawn criticism from the people across political lines,' said Tan, who is also a councillor with Miri City Council (MCC), in a statement. He cited concerns over kiosks costing up to RM25,000 each, many of which are located in remote and rarely frequented areas, and questioned the transparency of the tender process. Tan also criticised leaders from Miri Democratic Action Party (DAP) for remaining silent during initial calls for accountability, only to later shift blame to local councils. 'The truth is, this project was fully initiated and managed by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Malaysia, under a DAP minister. Local authorities had no decision-making power, only implementation role,' he said. 'For Miri DAP to point fingers at the local level while shielding their own party colleague in Putrajaya is not only dishonest, it is a betrayal of public trust.' He went on to accuse DAP of engaging in 'termite-style destruction', portraying themselves as champions of accountability in public while quietly serving the interests of political allies in Peninsular Malaysia. Tan added that the failure of the MyKiosk project was not limited to Sarawak, citing similar issues in Pakatan Harapan-governed states such as Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan where kiosks have reportedly been left empty and underutilised. 'If even these states cannot make the project work, how can they blame local authorities here in Sarawak?' he questioned. Tan urged the federal government to carry out a full audit of project expenditures, contractor appointments, site selection processes, and actual kiosk usage data ― and to release the findings to the public. 'Taxpayer money has been wasted. The people deserve answers, not excuses,' he stressed. Submit financials first, Prime Minister tells police co-op on aid for debts

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has asked the police cooperative to submit a detailed report on its financial performance before the government considers ways to help it reduce the debts of its subsidiary, Unikop College. Speaking at Koperasi PDRM Bhd's 90th annual general delegates meeting here, Anwar said the government would monitor the cooperative's performance. Advertisement 'I will approve two or three projects for the cooperative. But I want to see a report from the cooperative and the home ministry first. 'We will look at how they can work with the finance ministry to find alternatives and ensure that the cooperative can generate profits,' he added. Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said if the cooperative performed with the new projects, the government would consider allowing it to take on more next year. 'But it must prove its efficiency.' He said the government preferred to provide cost-effective projects instead of handing out financial grants. He added that the government could not write off all of Unikop College's debts, but would assess its performance over the next few years. Bukit Aman management department director Azmi Abu Kassim said that Unikop College's debts dated back to 2018, stemming from poor decisions that led to losses and leakage. PM Anwar says Malaysia to join UN meet on Palestine despite US warning, unlikely to attend personally
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Malaysia will send a representative to attend the United Nations (UN) conference in New York next week, which aims to discuss a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said Malaysia supports the efforts by France and Saudi Arabia in taking the initiative to hold the conference. 'Any country has the right to attend and express their views, particularly regarding justice for Palestine and Gaza; that is our stance. '... and I support the initiative by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia (who is also the Prime Minister), Mohammed bin Salman, and French President Emmanuel Macron (to organise the conference),' he told reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Azzubair Ibnul Awwam in Cheras today. Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar. Anwar said this when asked to comment on media reports that the administration of US President Donald Trump had issued a stern warning to governments worldwide not to attend the UN conference. The reports said Washington emphasised that any country adopting a stance against Israel would be considered contrary to US foreign policy and could face diplomatic repercussions. The reports also noted that the United States rejected any unilateral recognition of the State of Palestine. When asked whether he would attend the conference, scheduled to take place from June 17 to 20, Anwar said, 'I myself probably will not.' France and Saudi Arabia are reported to be the main organisers of the conference, with Paris said to be considering the unilateral recognition of Palestine. — Bernama
