Andhra CM seeks AI Singapores cooperation to establish innovation centres
As part of an endeavour to develop the southern state as an emerging AI hub, the chief minister met professor Mohan Kankanahalli, deputy executive chairman, AI Singapore.
'Naidu, committed to developing Andhra Pradesh as an emerging Artificial Intelligence hub, continued focused efforts during his third day in Singapore. On Tuesday, he met with Prof. Mohan Kankanahalli seeking their cooperation to set up AI research and innovation centers in the state," said an official release.
Stressing the importance of prioritising partnerships between AI Singapore and universities and research institutions in Andhra Pradesh, Naidu proposed launching AI training programmes, exchange initiatives and skill development modules for students across the state.
Deliberations chiefly revolved around the use of AI in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and public services.
The CM and Kankanahalli explored opportunities in technology promotion, deep tech, and AI innovation, the release said.
Further, the TDP supremo also met with NG Lin Wilin, senior vice president of SIA Engineering to deliberate on the upcoming airports in the state and sought cooperation for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services.
Naidu briefed the SIA representatives on the TDP-led NDA government's newly introduced industry-friendly policies while showcasing the wide-ranging opportunities in the aviation sector.
He invited the company to visit Andhra Pradesh to explore potential investments.
Responding positively, Wilin assured that a delegation would be sent to the state soon, the release said.
The Andhra Pradesh government is keen to establish a world-class MRO centre by leveraging the expertise and technology of companies such as SIA Engineering. Visakhapatnam and Krishnapatnam have been identified as suitable locations for this initiative, the release added. PTI STH KH

‘Ganga at your doorstep to clean your feet' remark by UP minister sparks row
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Minister Sanjay Nishad has sparked controversy during his visit to a flood-affected area in Kanpur Dehat where he told a woman that the Ganga river has reached 'your doorstep to clean your feet'. The remark triggered sharp reactions from opposition leaders, who accused the minister of being insensitive to the plight of those affected by floods. Several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Kanpur, Prayagraj, and Varanasi, have been affected by rising water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in recent days. In a video that surfaced on social media on Tuesday, Nishad can be seen speaking to a local woman standing in floodwaters and saying, 'Ganga river reaches your door steps to clean your feet and this will take you directly to heaven.' After the minister's statement during his visit on Monday, the woman was heard saying in the viral video, 'Take the blessing of Ganga yourself'. However, it was not clear whether the woman was replying to the minister or talking to another woman present there. Nishad, who is head of NISHAD party, an ally of the BJP, said the remark was made in a lighter vein. 'I was on a visit to a flood-hit area of Nishads where while interacting with them I said that for seeking salvation, people from far away place come to take the holy dip in Ganges and here Ganga 'maiya' was right at their doorstep,' the minister told PTI. 'We Nishads worship rivers, our source of life and livelihoods. So the remark has its own context,' the minister said. During his visit, the minister also reportedly spoke about a policeman from the Nishad community in Prayagraj whose videos of worshipping Ganga waters at his doorstep and swimming in the flood waters have gone viral. Flaying Nishad's remark, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Sharvendra Bikram Singh said this shows the insensitivity of the minister. 'He is not aware of the ground reality and the situation in which flood affected people are living. The state government has failed to provide relief to the people and its minister are looking for photo opportunities. At a time when people are losing their homes and livelihoods due to floods, such statements show how disconnected UP ministers are from ground reality,' Singh said. The Congress dubbed Nishad's remarks 'astha ka apman (insult of faith).' 'Such irresponsible statements are akin to 'astha ka apman'. There are ministers who are preaching swadeshi but moving about in swanky, imported cars,' UP Congress Committee chief Ajay Rai told PTI. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has constituted team of officers and ministers, who are visiting flood affected areas.

The initiative, called Working with AI (WAI), aims to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical, technology-driven business challenges, positioning the institute at the forefront of pedagogical innovation. The transformation builds upon IIM Ranchi's ongoing commitment to making its learning philosophy relevant to contemporary business challenges. Over the past academic cycle, the institution has systematically revamped its entire course structure, placing real-world business problem-solving at the centre of every curriculum component. "We have recognized that the traditional model of isolated theoretical learning was becoming increasingly disconnected from the dynamic needs of modern business,' said IIM-Ranchi Director Dr Deepak Srivastava, further adding, 'Our students needed to develop competencies that go beyond textbook knowledge – they need to work collaboratively with emerging technologies to solve complex business challenges.' According to Srivastava, the WAI initiative reflects a sophisticated understanding of how artificial intelligence is reshaping the business landscape. Rather than viewing AI as a disruptive force to be managed separately, IIM Ranchi has integrated it as a fundamental component of business education. Students are now required to demonstrate their ability to work alongside AI systems to develop innovative solutions for real business problems. This approach addresses a critical gap in traditional management education, where students often graduate with theoretical knowledge but lack practical experience in human-AI collaboration – a skill increasingly essential in today's workplace. 'India must retaliate': Shashi Tharoor says ‘hidden message' in 50% US tariff
Delhi: On US President Donald Trump announcing additional 25 per cent tariff on India, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor outside Parliament in New Delhi.(PTI) "It will have an impact because we have trade of about $90 billion. If things will get costly by 50 per cent then people will also think before purchasing them. If our competitors Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China will sell products at a lower cost... it will have an impact. The additional 25 per cent tariff has been added on the pretext that we are buying oil, petroleum products from Russia, however, China is purchasing almost double... and they have been giving 90 days while India has been given just three weeks. There seems to some other hidden message from Washington. The government should respond after carefully understanding the situation. We should also impose 50 per cent tariff on US goods." Average of Indian tariff on US goods is 17%, he said.
