Italy has been named the ‘ultimate' solo adventure destination for 2025 – here's the full list
Okay, so we have a pretty good idea about where to go for solo travel if you're keen to explore new cities and immerse yourself in new cultures, but what if you're after a proper, exhilarating, adrenaline-inducing adventure?
Much Better Adventures has called on its own customer reviews as well as a safety score, a biodiversity index and affordability, as well as flight time and ease of entry from the UK, to compile a list of the world's 'ultimate' solo travel destinations.
Seven of the top 10 from this ranking are located in Europe, but the first of these, beating out all the competition, was Italy. Why? Well, Much Better Adventures writes that its 'enthralling culture, impeccable cuisine, and diverse adventures land it top spot as the best destination for solo adventure travel in 2025'.
There is plenty to explore after all. Rome is a mere two hours from the Abruzzo mountains, and Venice is a couple of hours away from the Dolomites. However, across Italy you'll find lovely villages, pretty beaches and scenic islands all ripe for exploration.
'Solo travel in Italy is never lonely,' Marta Marinelli, adventure creator at Much Better Adventures, said: 'There are affordable trains and well-connected towns, so getting from one region to the next is usually pretty easy, and often ends up being spontaneous. Locals, especially in small towns or popular stops, tend to be curious and welcoming, and it's often easier than you'd think to strike up a chat - even if your Italian's a bit rusty.'
And when you get down to the nitty gritty detail, Italy certainly appeals. The country has a safety score of 1.69 and a biodiversity score of 67.71 (which are both decent) and a meal for one costs around £12-13.

Made with milk from a herd of Holstein Friesian cows at Stewart Tower Farm, this quality Italian gelato always hits the spot. Those who want to go big should check out the sundae menu. Options like the toffee and tablet tower – made with 'Moo' and toffee fudge ice creams, tablet, toffee sauce and whipped cream – are not to be missed. Although Stewart Tower Dairy have over 250 flavours on record, around 15 are served at any one time. All of them have an exceptionally smooth texture. Both indoor and outdoor seating areas boast a picturesque view of the Strathmore Valley and the local pygmy goats frolicking in a neighbouring field. One last reason – as if another was needed – to visit this ice cream shop. Address: Stewart Tower Dairy, Stanley, Perth PH1 4PJ In what is a fading tradition, Marini's Takeaway is beloved local chippie that also sells excellent ice cream. Here, some 20 varieties are served, including bubble gum, cherry and tutti frutti. Marini's ice cream comes from Equi's, an award-winning company that's been operating for over 100 years. Marini's chose its supplier well; the ice cream is extremely creamy. It also has a very pronounced flavour. The raspberry ripple is particularly arresting thanks to a distinct fruitiness many customers love. It is no stretch to say that Marini's serves some of the best ice cream in Perth. Address: 5 St Catherine's Road, Perth PH1 5YA Since opening in the summer of 2024, Dizato has gained a reputation as one of the Fair City's premier dessert parlours. No other local business can rival the breadth and quality of options that are on offer in this shop. Waffles, cakes, churros, sundaes, slushies and shakes are all served by Dizato's cheerful staff. Dizato sources its ice cream from Porrelli, a Paisley company that has been in business since 1925. Made with Scottish double cream, this ice cream is rich, velvety and incredibly tasty. The shop stocks 20 flavours of ice cream, including both 'Iron Brew' and 'Jammin Dodger'. Customers also have the choice of three types of cones or one tub. Address: 12 St. Leonards Bridge, Craigie, Perth PH2 0DR If choice is what you're after, Crunch Munch is the Perth ice cream shop for you. Approximately 40 flavours of ice cream are served here. Many of them are quite leftfield, Parma Violet and cappuccino being just two examples. Customers can also add some unique sauces to their ice cream. All told, Crunch Munch has 20 behind the counter. Dr. Pepper, Skittle and After Eight are three of the most eye catching. This Brooklyn bar turns viral Dubai chocolate into a boozy cocktail
Some trends are just too delicious to resist. Most recently, Dubai chocolate has captivated sweets lovers across the globe, drowning social media feeds and emptying wallets everywhere. Already, there are a half dozen places to find Dubai chocolate in NYC. The viral, pistachio-and-phyllo–flecked confection even inspired Sweet Graffiti bakery to add a Middle Eastern twist to their menu, lacing vanilla soft-serve ice cream with Dubai-style chocolate sauce, pistachio cream, and toasted kataifi. Now, another, much boozier rendition has debuted the Arlo Williamsburg: the 'Dubai Me A Drink' cocktail. Sip your dessert by sidling up to the bar at Sungold, the Italian leaning, seasonally-driven restaurant set inside the Brooklyn hotel. Rather than replicate the original Arabic treat, mixologist Armando Acevedo made it his own, infusing his spiked interpretation with nostalgic, high-impact flavors. The creamy, dreamy 'Dubai Me A Drink' swirls 100-percent American corn vodka with house-made pistachio cream, rich chocolate liqueur, cacao bitters, roasted pistachios and a luxurious hint of saffron. To mimic the dazzling, green and gold bars first created by Emirati Fix Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai, curvy coup glasses are embellished with generous swipes of chocolate and showering of crispy kataifi (shredded phyllo). The textural contrasts in this cocktail are deliciously thrilling — we can't wait to taste it alongside one of the restaurant's decadent desserts, like Orange Blossom panna cotta or flourless chocolate terrine with raspberry gelato.
