Colapinto reported unhurt after crashing in F1 tyre test
Argentine racer Franco Colapinto crashed in Formula One tyre testing at the Hungarian Grand Prix circuit on Wednesday and was reported unhurt after being taken to the medical centre, his Alpine team said. Renault-owned Alpine, Ferrari, McLaren and Racing Bulls are taking part in the two-day Pirelli test at the Hungaroring that followed on from last weekend's grand prix, the last before the sport's August break. Alpine said in a statement that Colapinto, who took over from reserve driver Paul Aron for the final day, had 'an incident' at turn 11, a right-handed curve that can be taken at 220kph. 'Franco was assessed on site at the medical centre and is OK,' they added. The team gave no details about how the crash happened or damage to the car. Colapinto, 22, replaced Australian Jack Doohan at Alpine after the first six races but has yet to finish higher than 13th for the team in seven starts. He did not start in Britain, after crashing in qualifying and then suffering a gearbox issue, and there has been speculation he could also be replaced before the end of the season. Also read | Cadillac will add value as 11th F1 team, says McLaren's Zak Brown Teammate Pierre Gasly has scored all of last-placed Alpine's 20 points, with three scoring finishes in his last six races. Colapinto told reporters last week that he was lacking confidence in the car and struggling to turn into the corners in the way he would like. 'I didn't have this issue last year (in nine races for Williams), I could go straight in and be quick straight away. Now I'm struggling a bit more with that,' he said. 'Generally, the car is a bit tricky on entries and that's what we are working on, on my side.'

Alpine's Franco Colapinto Arises Unscathed From Terrifying High-Speed Crash During Testing: WATCH
Last Updated: Franco Colapinto crashed during Pirelli tyre testing at Hungaroring but was uninjured. The Alpine driver, struggling this season, replaced Paul Aron for the test. Argentine Formula One driver Franco Colapinto was involved in a high-speed crash during a Pirelli tyre test at the Hungaroring on Wednesday, but was reported uninjured after undergoing medical evaluation. The 22-year-old, currently driving for Alpine, crashed at Turn 11, a fast right-hand corner typically taken at 220 km/h, during the second and final day of post-race testing at the venue that hosted last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. 🚨 Franco #Colapinto sufrió un accidente en HungríaDurante las pruebas de Pirelli en el Hungaroring, se despistó en la curva 11. Team UpdateDuring Day 2 of Pirelli Tyre Testing at the Hungaroring this morning, Franco Colapinto had an incident at Turn 11. Franco was assessed on site at the medical centre and is OK. — BWT Alpine Formula One Team (@AlpineF1Team) August 6, 2025 The French outfit, owned by Renault, did not provide specific details regarding the cause of the crash or the extent of damage to the car. The incident occurred during a two-day test organized by Pirelli, with Alpine, Ferrari, McLaren, and Racing Bulls all participating as part of preparations for future tyre developments. Colapinto's Struggles Continue Amid Pressure Colapinto was handed driving duties for the second day of the test, replacing reserve driver Paul Aron. The young Argentine joined Alpine earlier this season, replacing Australian Jack Doohan after the first six races. However, his performances have fallen short of expectations. In his seven race starts for the team, Colapinto has yet to finish higher than 13th and failed to start at Silverstone, following a qualifying crash and subsequent gearbox failure. These results have intensified speculation that his seat may be under threat ahead of the final stretch of the season. In stark contrast, his teammate Pierre Gasly has delivered all of Alpine's 20 championship points, finishing in the points three times in the past six races and keeping the struggling team marginally competitive in the constructors' standings, where they currently sit last.
