Kota MADANI To Offer Savings Of Up To RM1,000 A Month For Civil Servants

Barnama26-06-2025
PUTRAJAYA, June 26 (Bernama) -- The Kota MADANI smart city project here is expected to help civil servants save up to RM1,000 a month in living costs, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
She said that through this project, civil servants would be able to reside in government quarters at minimal cost, with salary deduction for housing totalling only around RM400 per month.
'Their children's schools are nearby and accessible on foot. They can go to and return from school safely as the area is equipped with an advanced security system.
'Fuel costs can also be saved. So they can set aside money for the future,' she said in her speech at the launch of the Kota MADANI development project in Putrajaya's Precinct 19, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today.
Dr Zaliha said the government is developing the MADANI concept grounded in reality, not merely as a slogan.
Responding to claims that the project would replace Putrajaya, Dr Zaliha clarified that Kota MADANI covers only 0.8 per cent of the entire area of Putrajaya and is a small part of a larger urban planning initiative.
'Putrajaya was built as a symbol of modern and planned administrative capital. Kota MADANI is a continuation and realisation of this vision, with emphasis on a liveable, inclusive, and secure ecosystem,' she said.
Kota MADANI is designed as a 'walkable' development with short distances between buildings, integrated with MADANI and CHASE principles — namely integrated development, pedestrian-friendly environments, artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and sustainable and inclusive growth.
According to Dr Zaliha, 10,000 units of quarters for civil servants will be built under the project to address the acute shortage currently faced.

Johor tourism nears 90% readiness for Visit Johor Year 2026

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor's tourism infrastructure and products are nearly 90 per cent complete as the state prepares for Visit Johor Year 2026 (VJY2026). Tourism Johor director Mohammad Nazrul Abd Rahim said large-scale promotions target 12 million visitors through key entry points like airports and land borders. Marketing efforts include social media, influencer partnerships, and mainstream media to highlight Johor's attractions. 'After 13 years since the last Visit Johor Year, now is the ideal time to revive the campaign,' Nazrul said at the VJY2026 sticker launch at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. Upgrades feature a new night experience at Johor Zoo and the reopening of eco-tourism sites such as Gunung Ledang Waterfall. Nazrul called the event the start of an inclusive promotion to position Johor as a top Malaysian travel destination. Over 10,000 VJY2026 stickers will be placed on public transport, including trishaws, tour buses, and e-hailing vehicles. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi projected RM42 billion in revenue from the campaign based on tourist arrivals. - Bernama

MMEA's Largest Ship Construction Begins With Keel Laying In Türkiye

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Construction of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS) has begun with the keel laying ceremony held at DESAN Kaptanoglu Shipyard in Türkiye yesterday. The ceremony, officiated by MMEA's Director of Engineering, First Admiral Mohd Rizal Hishamuddin and MPMS Project Director Capt Mohammad Nasir Man, marked the start of joining the main blocks for the largest vessel in the agency's history. Mohd Rizal said the initial phase of the keel laying involved the installation of blocks 107, 108, 207 and 208, which formed the midsection of the ship. 'This keel laying tradition marks the start of the main block assembly process and carries symbolic significance for the construction of a strategic national asset,' he said in a statement here today. He said the 99-metre-long and 17-metre-wide MPMS was designed for deep-sea operations lasting up to 28 days without resupply, and would be deployed for surveillance in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) as well as to monitor areas inaccessible to smaller vessels. Equipped with advanced defence technology, Mohd Rizal said the MPMS would feature an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), a 30mm cannon, X- and S-band radars, a helicopter landing pad, a rigid-hull inflatable boat (RHIB), and four fast interceptor craft. 'The MPMS can travel at 20 knots, accommodate 70 crew members and 20 passengers, and will have onboard medical and detention facilities,' he said. Meanwhile, DESAN Kaptanoglu Shipyard board chairman Cenk Ismail Kaptanoglu said in the same statement that achieving the keel laying milestone in such a short time after the contract signing on May 20 demonstrated the efficiency and commitment of all parties involved. 'The steel blocks installed today will not only form the backbone of the MPMS but also symbolise the strategic relationship and determination of Türkiye and Malaysia to strengthen maritime security. As with our previous projects, we are confident the MPMS can be delivered ahead of the March 2027 schedule,' he said.

MBSB IB Maintains Positive Call On Insurance Sector Despite Healthcare Inflation

-- Photograph for illustrative purposes MBSB IB Maintains Positive Call On Insurance Sector Despite Healthcare Inflation KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- MBSB Investment Bank (MBSB IB) has maintained its 'positive' recommendation on the insurance sector, citing attractive valuations and high dividend yields despite persistent healthcare inflation and delays in healthcare cost-control reforms. In a research note today, the bank said healthcare inflation remains a 'tricky issue to fix' as higher spending on the sector appears inevitable. 'Our primary concern is that if healthcare inflation is still rampant, what will happen at the end of Bank Negara Malaysia's three-year cap on medical insurance premium hikes? 'But there are multiple tailwinds -- a cheap price point, attractive dividend yields, a potential windfall in investment income, and encouraging progress by insurers in addressing the healthcare inflation problem -- making the sector due for a positive re-rating,' it said. The bank noted that companies under its coverage are market leaders, enabling them to withstand challenges better than most. MBSB IB said medical cost pressures are being fuelled by private hospitals rejecting proposed cost freezes, opposing pharmaceutical price controls, and what insurers describe as 'buffet table syndrome', where high claims are linked to increased service use without clear medical need. It also pointed to Malaysia's relatively low preventive healthcare spending and intensifying competition in healthcare tourism from Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore. However, the bank highlighted some progress in tackling medical inflation, including the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Drug) Order 2025, which will require mandatory medicine price displays in the private sector by 2026. 'The initiative aims to enable the public to make informed choices by knowing the prices in advance and to encourage competitive medical pricing, although it has faced resistance, with several medical groups filing a judicial review," it said. The bank added that another factor is the decline in active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) raw material prices to pre-pandemic levels, after surging during the pandemic and staying elevated for several years due to logistical constraints, factory closures and increased demand for healthcare products. MBSB IB's top picks are Allianz Malaysia Bhd, with a target price of RM21.59, and Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Bhd, with a target price of RM4.59, while LPI Capital Bhd is also rated 'buy'. -- BERNAMA
