Morocco World24-03-2025

Casablanca – Algeria's Nabil Anane scored a historic win against Thai star Superlek Kiatmoo9 who is widely considered the best Muay Thai fighter today.
Anane, who is the interim ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai world champion, put in a world-class performance to dominate the Thai great throughout three rounds of action.
The matchup was scheduled to be a ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai world championship unification bout but it was changed into a three-round bout after Superlek failed his hydration test and was subsequently stripped of his world title.
The 20-year-old Algerian star avenged his debut 2023 loss against 'The Kicking Machine' in style, showcasing his growing confidence and power and an improved striking skillset.
This is Anane's seventh consecutive win in ONE Championship in a run that has seen him capture big victories against notable fighters such as Nico Carrillo, Felipe Lobo, and Soe Lin Oo.
With this win, the youngest ever WBC Muay Thai champion raises his overall professional record to 40-5 and proves he is one of the best Muay Thai athletes in the world today.
After the biggest victory of his career, Anane addressed the fans at the Saitama Super Arena, thanking his family, friends, and coaches, including Mehdi Zatout, and describing the win as 'a dream come true'.
'I'm very happy now. My first dream just came true. I'm so happy. I've never been this happy in my life before,' Anane said.
ONE 172: Takeru vs Rodtang witnessed four world title matchups that crowned three new champions: ONE Interim Strawweight Kickboxing world champion Jonathan Di Bella, ONE Flyweight MMA world champion Yuya Wakamatsu, and ONE Interim Featherweight Kickboxing world champion Masaaki Noiri.
The show's main event also witnessed Thai star Rodtang Jitmuangnon knock out Takeru Segawa in a five-round flyweight kickboxing super-fight. Tags: AlgeriaAnane Nabilmuay thaione championshipSuperlek

Elmehdi El Jamari Aims for Pivotal Knockout Win, Eyes World Title Fight

Casablanca – Moroccan Muay Thai star Elmehdi El Jamari is putting the final touches on his preparations for a pivotal showdown at ONE Championship show ONE Fight Night 32 where he hopes to score a career-defining win and avenge his brother's loss to his opponent. El Jamari is set to face Aliff Sor Dechapan in a pivotal strawweight Muay Thai contest that could decide the next challenger for the world title inside Bangkok's iconic Lumpinee Stadium in the morning hours of Saturday, June 7. After scoring a spectacular knockout over Thailand's Thongpoon PK Saenchai on his debut in April, El Jamari is confident that he can secure a second finish in two promotional fights against a more difficult opponent this Saturday. The in-form Aliff, who is entering the fight after scoring three consecutive wins, is a dangerous fighter known for his powerful kicks and owns a 7-centimeter height advantage over the Moroccan. Aware of his next opponent's strengths and weaknesses after watching his fights closely, El Jamari has put together a game plan to land one of the biggest wins of his career. 'Aliff is a very different fighter to Thongpoon. He is much taller and has quite a different fighting style. However, we have put together a game plan that will surprise people once we are in the ring together,' El Jamari. Although he is remaining tightlipped about the details of his game plan, El Jamari made no secret of consulting his older brother and fellow ONE athlete Zakaria about facing his former opponent. Zakaria had suffered a disappointing first-knockout loss at the hands of Aliff last November – and Elmehdi is trying to build on the lessons learned from Zakaria's experience and is hoping to avenge his brother's defeat. 'Zakaria explained what happened during the fight. He doesn't want me to commit the same mistakes he made. He told me Aliff is a good fighter, but he is not a great fighter. I think Zakaria's biggest mistake was he put his hands down,' Elmehdisaid. 'I cannot wait for the fight. I cannot wait to enter the ring. It will be vengeance that rises to the level of our expectations,' he added. Despite focusing on his difficult mission in the upcoming bout, the 27-year-old Moroccan is already dreaming of challenging Thai star Prajanchai PK Saenchai for the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai world title. 'I think Prajanchai is a very experienced fighter. But his time is up. He is aging and this is the time for a new generation of fighters. I hope I will defeat Aliff first and then Prajanchai, too,' El Jamari said. Ahead of the pivotal matchup on Saturday, the talented multi-time Morocco, Arab, and Africa champion is promising an exciting all-out 'war' against Aliff and hopes to finish his opponent via knockout. 'It will be war. And the war will not go into the third round. I will finish him via knockout,' El Jamari said. Tags: El JamariFriday Fight Nightsone championshipONE Fight Night

World Boxing Imposes Sex Testing on Competitors, Including Imane Khelif

Rabat – World Boxing announced on Friday that it will require all athletes over 18 to undergo mandatory sex testing before participating in its competitions, including Imane Khelif. The decision comes after controversy involving women's welterweight gold medallist Imane Khelif at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Algerian athlete's participation raised questions about her gender identity and apparently prompted World Boxing to take this action. This new rule, World Boxing says, aims to confirm the eligibility of male and female boxers by checking their biological sex. Under the new policy, athletes must take a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) genetic test to detect the presence of the Y chromosome, which indicates biological sex. The test can be done using a nasal or mouth swab, saliva, or blood sample. World Boxing said it informed the Algerian Boxing Federation that Khelif must undergo this test before she can compete in the upcoming Eindhoven Box Cup in the Netherlands from June 5 to 10. 'World Boxing has written to the Algerian Boxing Federation to inform it that Imane Khelif will not be allowed to participate in the female category at the Eindhoven Box Cup or any World Boxing event until Imane Khelif undergoes sex testing,' it said in a statement. National federations will handle the testing process and must provide proof of an athlete's chromosomal sex when entering them into World Boxing events. Khelif became the subject of widespread rumors and claims questioning her gender during the 2024 Paris Olympics. These allegations spread quickly on social media and were amplified by several public figures, leading to intense online harassment and misinformation targeting the boxer. In response to this cyberbullying, Khelif took legal action by filing a criminal complaint in France for aggravated cyber harassment, naming some of those responsible for spreading the false claims. In addition, her family, including her father, came forward to defend Khelif, even showing her birth certificate and childhood pictures. Despite the backlash, Khelif went on to win the gold medal in the women's welterweight boxing category. Following her Olympic success, she announced plans to continue her career by moving up to the 70 kg weight class and aiming to compete again at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
