Sony reveals Project Defiant arcade fighting stick
Sony has a new PlayStation-branded arcade-style fight stick coming soon. The controller, dubbed Project Defiant, was just announced during the June 2025 State of Play showcase.
It should pair nicely with some of the best fighting games on PS5 as well as the recently announced Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection and the Arc System Works fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
The teaser only showed the stick, but more details were revealed in a subsequent PlayStation blog post. There Sony revealed that the controller can wirelessly connect to a PS5 or PC using PlayStation Link technology, though you can optionally plug it in via a USB-C cable.
According to Sony, the Link allows for "ultra-low latency" with the aim of facilitating precise responses when pressing buttons or moving the stick.
The Project Defiant fight stick is "custom designed" by Sony and features at least eight buttons with mechanical switches. It's a digital stick, so you can move it orthogonally but not freely in any direction.
There is also a touchpad similar to the one on the DualSense controller and interchangeable restrictor gates. The controller will also come with a carrying case that includes a lever gap to keep the stick safe.
Sony did not share a release date beyond 2026 instead saying that more details would come in the "months ahead." Those details will include the actual device name and eventually the launch date. But we'll have to wait and try one for ourselves to see if it's one of the best fight sticks for PS5.

Out of Words is a cozy stop-motion co-op adventure from Epic Games
A new co-op adventure is coming from Epic Games. Made by WiredFly and Kong Orange, Out of Words will offer a stop-motion-flavored platform adventure that's a little bit cozy and a little bit fantasy. The controllable humans have had their mouths stolen — that's why it's called Out of Word s. It's a little On The Nose. The cute figures and creatures have been crafted by hand, and cutscenes suggest they've been stop-motion animated alongside the gaming parts. Alongside the two humans you seemingly control, there's also a cute flying stingray. According to Epic Games, much of that whimsy originates from the mind of acclaimed poet Morten Søndergaard. A core navigation dynamic will be the ability to invert gravity, allowing players to run upside-down alongside each other. There are other traversal powers, including monstrous arms that can grab and slingshot players across spaces. Out of Words launches in 2026, and is coming to the Epic Games Store, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.

The soulslike action RPG Code Vein is getting a sequel
Bandai Namco is making a sequel to the 2019 action RPG Code Vein . The sequel, appropriately-named Code Vein II , is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2026. It received mixed reviews, but the dungeon-crawling seemed solid and the difficulty wasn't over the top. The graphics for Code Vein II look sharp and the story seems convoluted, but fun. It looks to be carrying over some story beats from the first one. It's still set in a post-apocalyptic future and still follows a protagonist with vampire-like abilities. We'll have more on this one as it gets closer to the actual release.

Summer Game Fest 2025: all the news, trailers, and announcements
It's that time of year again. With E3 done and gone, Summer Game Fest has taken its place, and it always makes for a busy few days in gaming.
