HNEC warns against relying on unofficial municipal election results
The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) has warned against obtaining any results related to Saturday's municipal elections in 26 councils from sources other than its official platforms. In a press conference on Saturday evening, the Commission stressed that no preliminary results circulating on social media or elsewhere should be considered, reaffirming that official results will only be published on the Commission's website and verified social media accounts. The Commission confirmed that the counting and tallying process had begun and could continue until late into the night. Once completed at the polling stations, the vote tallies will be transferred to the local election administration offices, and then to the central counting and statistics center at the Commission's headquarters in Tripoli, which began its work on Saturday night and will continue until the last ballot form is processed. According to the Commission, results will be officially announced within 21 days, although the counting process is expected to finish earlier due to the suspension of elections in a number of municipalities. It also reported that a total of 161,684 voters cast their ballots between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, representing 71% of eligible voters who had collected their voting cards.
