Ella Toone's gift from pals that means she can 'hug' late dad at Women's Euros

The pillow with her late dad's face on is among several sentimental items that Ella said she would take to Switzerland to make her hotel room at the Women's Euros feel like home
Ella Toone has said her thoughtful pals gave her a pillow with her late dad's face on so she could still hug him at the Women's Euros. The 25-year-old striker also told how Sir Chris Hoy's autobiography helped her deal with the death of her dad Nick, who lost his battle with prostate cancer just days before his 60th birthday.
Speaking about the special items she's packed for the tournament in Switzerland, Ella said: "When I went to the [last] Euros and the World Cup, [my boyfriend] Joe got me loads of pictures that my mum put in of my friends, me and my family, the dogs, and it was really nice to have those in the room. I had a big flag they made saying 'Come on Ella'.

"Then when I went to the World Cup Joe had made a big book, he had gone to everyone and got them to write messages in it so throughout the tournament I could read through it. Those little sentimental bits just remind you of what you're doing and who you are making proud.
"I've got a few nice bits of dad that I always take away with me now. I have a pillow that my mates got me with a picture of dad on it and it says 'hug this whenever you need me'. I like to take that when I'm away on camp. And when you're in a hotel room it's nice to make it as much like home as you can, it's where you stay for a long time so it's nice to make it yours and cosy."
Asked how she relaxes in camp, Ella added: "I've started to read... I like to read autobiographies. I've just finished Sir Chris Hoy's autobiography, which is a story very close to my family, with him dealing with prostate cancer."
The Lionesses arrived in Switzerland on Monday afternoon and headed straight to their base camp at the 5* Dolder Grand Hotel in the suburbs to the south of the city. The tournament officially begins on Wednesday with the first match in Thun, where Iceland will play Finland at 5pm GMT.
And then after a grand opening ceremony in Basel, tournament hosts Switzerland will take on Norway at 8pm GMT. The celebrations will feature chart-topping pop heroes from both countries as well as theatrical displays from a cast of 185 performers. Swiss sensation Beatrice Egli and Norwegian artist Astrid S will headline the event before the players line the pitch just before kick off.
This year's theme; The Summit of Emotions, will encapsulate all that Switzerland has to boast from its spectacular landscapes, while demonstrating the highs and lows of football. Fans in the UK can catch the ceremony live on ITV or BBC, both of which are broadcasting the opening game.
Ranked 23rd in the world the Swiss will be hoping to defy the rankings to claim their first ever Euros win since the Women's tournament started in 1984. In Zurich the final touches were being made to the fan zone ahead of England's match against France on Saturday, which will be the first match of the tournament in the city.
Over the next four weeks Switzerland will welcome more than half a million football fans to cheer on their teams in the stands of eight different stadiums. Of those an estimated 180,000 will be international fans from 110 countries across the globe. The tournament will be streamed to TV screens around the world with an estimated 500 million tuning in to watch.

Children's TV icon announces return to series reboot after 20 years

A legend of British children's TV has confirmed that he'll be reprising his iconic role from one of the best-loved kids shows of the last 20 years. Andrew Agnew, who played PC Plum in Balamory between 2002 and 2005, will be stepping back into his old costume for the planned reboot, coming in 2026. Balamory, which ran for four seasons and more than 200 episodes, was the Scottish kids' TV show that defined a generation with its memorable 'What's the Story?' theme tune and picturesque setting. Filmed in the town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull – one of the largest of the Inner Hebrides islands in Scotland – Balamory followed the lives of the small fictional island community who lived in the titular village. In September 2024, it was confirmed that Balamory would be returning with brand new episodes in 2026, with BBC bosses setting the official revival date. Ever since, speculation has been rife as to whether its lead stars Andrew, Julie Wilson Nimmo, and Miles Jupp, among others, would be coming back for another go. Now Andrew has confirmed that he'd be well up for producing more stories from Balamory, returning to the role of Balamory's local police officer PC Plum. He told BBC Radio Scotland's Lunchtime Live that he'd be more than eager to get back to Tobermory for more filming when production resumes in the near future. 'If they ask me to go back then I'll absolutely be there with bells on, I'm sure. But at the moment we're all just getting excited at the fact that it's happening. I don't think it would be same if we weren't involved in it.' Andrew's recent comments echo those of Julie's too, who simply said 'Yup' when asked by a fan of the show if she'd be coming back as Miss Hoolie, Balamory's nursery teacher. Joking that Balamory's anticipated return was 'bigger than the Oasis reunion', Julie made it clear that any future episodes of the children's show would involve her. Head of children's TV at the BBC, Kate Morton, revealed the news in 2024: 'A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies. 'It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly coloured world getting to know a host of old and new characters together.' More Trending While some of the old cast appear to be returning, there's also the question of whether a reboot calls for some original and newly developed characters. And while many fans would love of whether production will return to the beautiful Isle of Mull, which has a population of approximately 3,000 people. In the saucy challenge Helena made her desire for him clear when she whispered in Harry's ear: "I want to f*** you." He immediately told Tommy to pass it on to the boys afterwards, and Dejon was left open-mouthed. During his go, Harry whispered "do you still want to f*** me?" in Helena's ear. However, when discussing the results with Shakira afterwards, Harry neglected to tell her what had happened. Fans were left unimpressed, as one wrote: "Shakira deserves so much better than Harry, casa amor please save her asap." Another added: "they all gaslight shakira??? how is helena saying it's not deep knowing what her and harry whispered to each other??????" A third wrote: "Harry mugging off shakira." While a fourth remarked: "shakira now we can dump harry you've given him enough chances." Harry and Helena struck up a connection early on, however, the playboy couldn't help but keep his options open and things fizzled out as quickly as they started. Watch the moment Shakira kicks off furious new Love Island feud with Helena - and two bombshells enter the villa Having switched his attention to Shakira, after a snog-filled terrace trip with Yasmin, Helena was reluctant to be friends with him. But her stint in the second villa for the Sleepover, which saw the arrival of four bombshells, made her realise she still had feelings for Harry. It comes as viewers predicted Shakira could couple up with another villa boy. She shared a steamy smooch with Irish rugby player Conor during a challenge called Snog, Marry, Pie. Islanders had to kiss who they fancied the most, propose and marry the Islander they most thought of as marriage material, and pie the Islander who they didn't fancy or had any previous issues with. Since the pair shared a steamy smooch and Conor declared Shakira as the "fittest girl in the villa", fans have predicted their blossoming romance. One person wrote: "Conor and Shakira? I could see that." Another said: "Anyone else think shakira and Conor might couple up at some point or is that a stretch?" While a third wrote: "Hear me out… shakira and Conor," Love Island airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
