Atlee addresses criticism that his films are 'copied'; says this about his next with Allu Arjun, Deepika Padukone
Atlee discussed naysayers' perceptions of how scenes and characters in his films are copied. He said, 'Generally, there's a perception that the films I make are taken from here or there. But let me tell you about my life today and give an example you can connect with.' This comes after the internet pointed out similarities between the poster of his next film and Dune.
The filmmaker mentioned Vijay's character, a gangster-turned-football coach named Michael Rayappan, from his 2019 film Bigil and said, 'Raayappan in Bigil was inspired by Jeppiaar sir, the founder and chancellor of this university. Today, when I got the doctorate and they played music from Mersal (2017), I believe I earned this only through honesty, only through love. I promise today that I will make this country proud.'
Atlee also spoke about his yet-to-be-titled film with Arjun and Deepika, saying, 'Kalanidhi Maran sir (of Sun Pictures) is producing this film. It's one of the most expensive films to be made in our country. We will be using a lot of new technology to make it. I'm dreaming big, and the budget has yet to be locked. The producer will decide the release date.'
After it was announced in April that Arjun's next film after Pushpa will be with Atlee, the film's team announced in June that Deepika has also been roped in for the project. Arjun congratulated Atlee for his doctorate and wrote on social media, 'Big congratulations to @Atlee_dir garu on receiving the honorary doctorate. Atlee debuted as a director with the 2013 film Raja Rani and has since delivered only hits. His last film was the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika-starrer Jawan, his Bollywood debut. It grossed over ₹1100 crore worldwide, becoming Shah Rukh's highest-grossing film.

Los Angeles: Veteran star Pierce Brosnan, who famously portrayed popular British intelligence agent James Bond in four films between 1995 and 2002, has quipped about playing a senior 007 in the upcoming movie in the movie series based on the fictitious character created by author Ian Fleming. In a recent interview, Pierce Brosnan, 72, shared that he would consider reprising the role if an opportunity came along, especially under the direction of Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. "I don't think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It's great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics... who knows?" he said, as quoted by Variety. In June, it was announced that "die-hard Bond fan" Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond film from Amazon MGM Studios. Coolie Box Office Collection Day 6: Rajinikanth's Film Sees Further Dip, Mints Rs 216 Crore
New Delhi: Rajinikanth's Coolie, perhaps, didn't get the benefit of discunted ticket prices on its first Tuesday since release. The film minted Rs 216 crore across all languages with Rs 9.50 crore from Tuesday alone. Breaking Down The Numbers On Tuesday, Rajinikanth's film registered a single-digit number for the first time since its release. On Monday, the film managed to earn Rs 12 crore, with Rs 7.75 crore in Tamil and Rs 1.85 crore in Hindi contributing to the total number, as per Sacnilk. Coolie, released on the eve of Independence Day, minted Rs 65 crore with Rs 44.5 crore in Tamil alone on the first day (August 14). On day two, the film minted Rs 54.75 at the domestic box office. Coolie received mixed reviews. The word-of-mouth from the audience might have impacted its numbers over the weekend. On Saturday, the film managed to earn Rs 39.5 crore across all languages. Coolie emerged as Rajinikanth's all-time highest opener at the box office. The film missed the spot of being the highest opener for Tamil cinema as Lokesh Kanagaraj-Vijay's Leo set the highest opening record of Rs 66 crore at the box office. About Coolie Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie marks Rajinikanth's 171st film. The movie also features Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir and Sathyaraj in key roles. Aamir Khan will make a cameo appearance in the film. Coolie is produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures. In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Coolie plays out in a man's world. The likes of Preethi, notwithstanding the amount of screen time she has, is only of secondary importance. So is everybody else in the film and that includes the writer-director himself. It is Rajinikanth the star and Deva the character who call the shots all the way through. Should anybody be complaining?" Coolie is racing ahead of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2, which released on August 14.
