Lost dog returned to Houston after being found in Chicago
Brothers Luc and Loi Nguyen said their dog, Covic, got out of the house back on May 14 as they got distracted while opening up the garage door, CBS affiliate KHOU in Houston reported.
A search of the neighborhood, flyers, and Facebook posts turned up no signs of the pup. They figured the dog had been stolen.
But then, they got a surprising phone call.
"We get a call from Chicago. She said: 'Is this your dog? This might be your dog. I can FaceTime and show you. Is this your dog?" said Luc Nguyen. "And we have the dog. That's him."
The woman who contacted the Nguyen brothers claimed she bought the dog at Midway International Airport, not knowing the animal was missing.
Luc Nguyen flew to Chicago to pick up Covic and drove back to Houston.
The brothers are happy Covic is safely back home.

You may even be tempted to bring one home, before thinking to yourself: "Is this legal?" Well, we're here to answer that question. Is it legal to own a raccoon in Iowa? It's illegal to own dangerous wild animals in Iowa, as outlined in Iowa Code. Raccoons aren't technically considered dangerous wild animals. However, this is where things get tricky. "A bit of a nuance, but wild raccoons are illegal to have as pets in Iowa," said Tammie Krausman, Iowa Department of Natural Resources' public information officer. "Often, people want to keep them as pets if they are injured or thought to be orphaned." Law enforcement action will be taken if a wild raccoon is found as a pet in Iowa, including removing the animal, Krausman said. Citations can also be given, as many cities have ordinances prohibiting the animals as pets. While certain raccoons obtained by a licensed breeder are technically legal in Iowa, Krausman said there are laws that impact transporting raccoons across state lines. What should you do if you see an injured animal or an abandoned baby animal? Krausman recommended not touching or moving wildlife, as you could cause more problems than solving them, especially if the animal is a baby. The DNR warns that many baby animals that appear orphaned are actually being cared for by a parent who is just out of sight. Many animals die from the stress of being handled or placed in unfamiliar surroundings. If you come across wildlife and don't know what to do, you can always call the Iowa DNR at 515-275-8200 and the team will help you find appropriate care for the animal, Krausman said. South Padre's Beach Access #3 To Blast Off With SpaceX's $4.4M Makeover
South Padre Island is gearing up for a major upgrade at one of their largest beach access locations, thanks to a $4.4 million contribution from SpaceX and Elon Musk. The donation will help transform the currently modest beach access entry #3 into a fully equipped, family-friendly destination, with construction expected to finish in 2026, according to the city. Located just outside the city limits at 28495 State Park Road, the site currently features a small, uneven parking lot and a simple dune walkover leading to the sand. Once construction begins, visitors can expect a big transformation, including a larger and leveled parking lot with 159 spaces, updated dune walkover bridges, two outdoor pavilions, 12 picnic tables, four public restrooms with showers, barbecue pits, rinse stations, new landscaping, and an 'environmentally conscious' lighting system. Even the entrance toll booth will receive a facelift. The initial price tag on the beach access revamp projection was listed as $4.5 million, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Cameron County leaders officially celebrated the start of the project during a groundbreaking ceremony on August 11. 'This new improvement project at Cameron County Beach Access No. 3 represents a major investment in the overall experience of our County Coastal Parks on South Padre Island for both families and visitors,' said Parks Director Joe Vega. 'It means greater access to safe, clean, and well-maintained public spaces where people can gather, relax, and create lasting memories.' SpaceX's donation comes along with nearly $817,000 in supporting grants from the Texas General Land Office, which helped fund the design, engineering, and construction phases. These upgrades are part of a bigger $24 million initiative to enhance Cameron County's coastal parks. City Commissioner Sofia Benavides said the revamp will bring 'lasting benefits for children and families for many years to come,' while also thanking SpaceX for their contribution.
