Local school theatre club joins awards showcase
According to a press release, the club has joined the Miami Valley High School Theater Awards (MVHSTA) program, representing the district for the very first time.
The 'Wildcat Theatre' cast and crew will perform 'The Addams Family,' from Apr. 24 to 26, which the MVHSTA will judge ahead of their award show in June.
The program is expected to give out over 600 awards at the 2025 awards and showcase event on June 5. They will announce the winners in May out of a total pool of 39 high schools throughout the Miami Valley, including Butler High School, Chaminade Julienne High School, Stivers School for the Arts and more.
The program has celebrated high school plays, musicals, students and educators in the area since 2018. During the awards show, winning schools are invited to perform songs from productions they produce.
The 2025 awards will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Schuster Center.
Each year, we've welcomed both theatre veterans and new performers. Thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of our students, this year we produced a theatre season that is ready for competition! Our students are so excited to participate in the wider theatre community of Miami Valley schools through our musical, The Addams Family. This is just one step in the continued growth of our program that will hopefully include more shows, more community outreach, and more student-led projects.

Propstore is rolling out a standout piece of nostalgia for The Addams Family as part of its upcoming Entertainment Memorabilia Auction: a silly and spooky wooden children's dinosaur toy that only an Addams or Addams fan could love. The morbidly adorable toy joins other highly coveted pop culture treasures such as Darth Vader's lightsaber from Star Wars and a whip from Indiana Jones. The green bug-eyed piece was featured in Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 film The Addams Family. It can be seen in a scene where Wednesday (Ricci) was playing with it to keep herself entertained while we get Fester's fabricated backstory during a pivotal part of the film. Propstore's official description of the piece informs potential buyers of its rarity: 'This production-made toy, a plastic dinosaur on wheels with googly eyes, painted green with dark green spikes and a red mouth, shows signs of age and filming use, including pitting, chipping, striations, cracking, and wheel scratches. It measures approximately 18″ x 6.5″ x 6″ (45.75 cm x 16.75 cm x 15.25 cm)' and it's estimated to be getting a winning bid somewhere in the ballpark of $2,000–$4,000. However, with the character of Wednesday being all the rage again thanks to the Netflix show's return, it could go for much higher. In Netflix's version, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) attempts to solve a murder mystery at her new school. The first half of the second season premiered on Wednesday, August 6, and heightened the stakes with Wednesday not determined to keep Enid (Emma Myers) safe after a deadly premonition. In the final moments of part 1, Wednesday had been seemingly knocked out of a Willow Hill window by her ex-boyfriend and deadly Hyde a.k.a Tyler (Hunter Doohan). Wednesday's fate was left up in the air as Tyler escaped into the woods, alongside handfuls of other mental institution patients. There's also this season's mystery murderer who killed two people in two days but had yet to be unmasked. The first reunion didn't go as planned when Tyler transformed into the Hyde and nearly killed Laurel. She tried to win his favor over again once the outcasts broke out of Willow Hill. But Laurel's attempt to help him didn't work in her favor and the Hyde ultimately chased her down and appeared to kill her — seemingly for good this time. Morticia Addams and Gomez Addams Pugsley Addams After playing a smaller role in season 1, Wednesday's brother was not attending Nevermore too. He had a tough time adjusting to the school — especially when it came to making friends. Pugsley finding and adopting a zombie didn't exactly help his situation and part 1 wasn't even over before the monster escaped and ate quite a few brains along the way.

The ‘Wednesday Season 2 Part 2' Trailer Welcomes Back a Familiar Face
Now that we're just over a week out from the first half of the season 2 release of Netflix's The Addams Family remake, Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer has finally released a new trailer for its second half. The trailer starts nightmarishly, at least for Wednesday, with her waking up in a hospital bed. Although she's not greeted by Momma Monster herself, Lady Gaga, who has yet to make an appearance on the show despite all the hype surrounding her mysterious involvement, Wednesday is met with a familiar face, fan-favorite character Principal Weems, played by Gwendoline Weems' return comes as a surprise, seeing as how last season saw the loathsome head of Nevermore Academy meet her end. Thinking Wednesday also bought the farm after her encounter with Tyler (Hunter Doohan) at the end of season 2's first half, Weems took immense pleasure in revealing that she'll be nagging at Wednesday inside her thoughts as a kind of gothic Jiminy Cricket tag-along as Wednesday gets back to her premonition quest to save her best friend, Enid (Emma Myers), from certain doom. Sprinkled throughout the rest of the trailer is narration by Wednesday, reminding both herself and the viewers that she still has other matters to attend to. Mainly, her family's seemingly endless well of dark secrets bubbling to the surface, and Tyler being on the loose with plans to put Wednesday and Enid in an early grave. While the news of the day is that viewers won't have to wait all that long to get the final half of the split in twain season, fans can take solace in knowing that there's more Wednesday mayhem in store for them in the future beyond the second slice. Namely, a third season is in the works as well as a spin-off. While details on both fronts have been kept under wraps, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have expressed interest in keeping the show going for at least seven seasons. Our money is on the plans for a spin-off likely taking the focus off of Ortega, should Hollywood come a-knocking for her to do some acting outside of Netflix's backyard. Regardless, Wednesday continues to be a booming success on the streamer. Shortly after Wednesday season two part one premiered on Netflix, Variety reported that the new season has already matched the first season's streaming performance. With Lady Gaga still to make her presence felt on the screen, the show is likely to continue performing well for the streamer and delight fans as it closes out its second season.
