Sprinting tourist grabs seven sunbeds within seconds in 'insane' poolside battle
This is the moment a determined holidaymaker sprints to the pool to bag seven loungers at once.
There is nothing new about the daily battles for sunbeds at holiday resorts around the world, where the savvy sun lovers know to get out early to get the best spots. But what was is surprising in a clip from Tenerife is the speed that one man showed to occupy seven loungers with towels. Jeff Hunter, from Northern Ireland, has told how he watched on in awe as the man legged it towards the most sought-after sunbeds at the hotel.
The 36-year-old claims that after securing all seven loungers, the man returned to his room. To the sound of the Chariots of Fire theme tune the tourist wearing shorts burst into view and then after reaching the beds, he took several steps sideways to lay out the towels. It comes after a Brit abroad slammed all-inclusive hotel food asking 'what on earth is this?'
What was perhaps most surprising was that after putting down his markers, the man didn't return. Jeff, a chef, spent the morning at the pool, and an hour later, the man still hadn't come back to use his reserved spots.
The bizarre footage was captured at Parque Santiago III in Tenerife. The three-star hotel, which costs around £131 a night per person, is the latest resort to face the summer holiday sunbed wars.
Jeff branded the tourists' antics 'insane' after revealing there were 'hundreds' of spare beds by the pool when it happened on August 7. 'I just think it's all a bit insane,' Jeff from Northern Ireland, told Luxury Travel Daily.
'There are hundreds of beds available, but he is dead set on getting the same ones every day. I personally don't mind as long as I can get a bed. 'I don't know the guy. 'He got seven beds and then went back to his room. 'He still wasn't using them an hour later when I left.
'We have been queuing from around 8:30 am for the pool opening at 9 am. He is always already there when we arrive, and from around 8:55 am, he stands in a runner's stance. 'It's the same every day. It's an amazing hotel - just a nightmare in the mornings.'
It comes after last year a young couple, who filmed themselves sneaking down to their hotel pool at 1am to grab the best spot, said holiday sunbed wars were out of control at their resort.
Aimee Millar, 20, said she and her partner had started leaving their room in the middle of the night to grab the best sunbeds after they realised other guests were doing the same.
'In the hotel we stayed at, if we didn't get those certain sunbeds we would've had to pay €7.50 (£6) each for a bed,' said Aimee, who was staying in Albufeira, Portugal. As much as it was crazy we didn't mind doing it at 1am as we were staying up later anyways.'

How Brooklyn Beckham's ditched Brit pals in move ‘straight out of Prince Harry manual' as he ‘soft launches Brand Peltz'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) WEDDINGS are usually about celebrating your love with your nearest and dearest - and that was certainly the case for Nicola Peltz-Beckham at her and Brooklyn's lavish vow renewal ceremony. The actress, 30, was surrounded by her loved ones at the glitzy event on her family estate in Westchester County, New York earlier this month - with her dad Nelson even officiating. There was no sign of once-close pals Rocco Richie, Noel Gallagher's daughter Anais or Gordon Ramsay's son Jack - despite the celebrity chef and his family attending the couple's 2022 wedding. Instead the couple posed alongside Nicola's brothers, a selection of her friends from the acting world, and members of her glam squad. Brooklyn's parents Victoria, 51, dad David, 50 - currently on holiday in St Tropez - are said to be heartbroken at the very public snub, which will no doubt deepen the alleged rift between the Peltz-Beckhams and their in-laws. READ MORE ON THE BECKHAM FEUD HOUSE OF PAIN Toxic rift between Beckham and Peltz camps sparked by money row At Brooklyn's wedding to Nicola in 2022, the guest list appeared to be fairly evenly split - with his sister Harper, 14, one of Nicola's bridesmaids. But she, along with Brooklyn's brothers Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, failed to cop an invite for the vow renewal, and reportedly only found out about it when they read reports online. PR guru Mark Borkowski called it a move "straight out of the Prince Harry manual" - and warns this latest stunt could cause long-lasting reputational issues for the couple. He told The Sun: 'Brooklyn's vow renewal looked less like a family celebration and more like a soft launch for the Peltz brand - with the Beckham name parked politely at the diamond-encrusted gates. 'He's swapped the Brit pack tribal connections for Nicola's billionaire bubble, a move straight from the Prince Harry manual: ditch the old circle, live in your spouse's world, and curate a new reality. "From a brand point of view, it's risky. The Beckham Dynasty is still a golden ticket, but cut the supply lines to the family machine and the shine fades fast. Brooklyn Beckham & Nicola Peltz 'renew wedding vows' after 3 years of marriage 'If Brooklyn and Nicola can build something genuinely aspirational on their own, fine - but if not, they'll be remembered as the couple who traded a global dynasty for a glossy cul-de-sac.' It was previously reported that Brooklyn no longer has any contact with his old pals including Jack Ramsay, despite them once being "inseparable". 'He no longer speaks to Rocco Ritchie, Madonna and Guy Ritchie's son, with whom he attended the Hampstead Fine Arts college in Belsize Park, north-west London," claimed the Daily Mail. Brooklyn's vow renewal looked less like a family celebration and more like a soft launch for the Peltz brand Marc Borkowski The only visible friend of Brooklyn's who pre-dates Nicola was businessman Jeremy Clerc, seen on the floor in the centre of a group picture. Jeremy, who owns an assisted living business, featured on Brooklyn's Instagram in 2020 in a post captioned 'love you guys'. The rest of those pictured appear to be linked to Nicola - including actor Benny Buckley, who appeared alongside Nicola in her film Lola, and celebrity hair colourist Daniel Moon, who counts Kristen Stewart, Katy Perry and Madonna among his client roster. The group also features cinematographer and photographer Hunter Moreno, who works with Nicola's former BFF Selena Gomez and KSI; brothers Eran and Aran Shapov, who run a luxury construction company; LA real estate agent Anthony Barillo; make-up artist Georgi Sandev, and creative branding agency owner Dominic J West. 13 Brooklyn's little sister Harper was a bridesmaid at the couple's wedding in 2022 Credit: The Mega Agency 13 Brooklyn has reportedly stopped speaking to his old friend Rocco Ritchie since marrying Nicola Credit: Xposure 13 Brooklyn used to be close with Noel Gallagher's daughter Anais when living in the UK Credit: Getty - Contributor 13 He reportedly has no contact with Jack Ramsay who he grew up with Credit: Getty 13 At the renewal, Jeremy (right) seemed to be the only pal of Brooklyn's invited Credit: Instagram Other photos shared on Instagram by Brooklyn show the couple with members of Nicola's family. Many fans have commented on the absence of Brooklyn's brood, with one remarking: 'How can you break-up with three siblings and your parents after having such a big bond and life experience together?! It's really like cutting off your arm and pretending everything is normal.' Another wrote: "Cold, calculating, deeply hurtful to plan an event and exclude part of your family," while one branded the couple: "Harry and Meghan version 2." It's the latest kick in the teeth for the Beckham family after Nicola and Brooklyn snubbed David's 50th birthday bash, and Brooklyn didn't acknowledge Victoria on Mother's Day. The alleged feud is said to have been sparked by a row over money. Brooklyn has swapped the Brit pack tribal connections for Nicola's billionaire bubble, a move straight from the Prince Harry manual: ditch the old circle, live in your spouse's world, and curate a new reality Marc Borkowski A forensic pre-nup was apparently drawn up before Brooklyn and Nicola's wedding to secure the Peltz family's enormous wealth — a fortune that relatively dwarves the Beckhams'. The Peltzes have reportedly accused the Beckhams of being 'tight' and not amply providing for their beloved son. Meanwhile David, Victoria and the rest of the family are said to be hurt by their once-devoted eldest son becoming estranged - and hold Nicola responsible. A source said: 'They think Nicola is a bit of a horror but she isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Nicola loves having Brooklyn at her side, and she loves him very much. But he is also very useful. 'The wider Beckham family and Brooklyn's friends – many of whom he no longer sees – take the view that he does what Nicola wants. From the Beckhams' point of view, it's not nice to watch.' It's been reported Brooklyn has not had contact with his family for months, and "it feels clear to them that he doesn't want to make amends". 13 Nicola had her brother Bradley at the renewal, while Brooklyn had no family Credit: Instagram/brooklynpeltzbeckham 13 Nicola has curated a group of friends with connections across the showbiz industry Credit: Instagram 13 Nicola and Brooklyn have gushed all over social media about their vow renewal Credit: Instagram

Spanish hotel gives defiant statement as grandad dies eating 'half-cooked' chicken
The 70-year-old dad ate undercooked chicken during his stay on Fuerteventura and days later he fell ill with condition quickly worsening. A luxury Fuerteventura hotel has broken its silence after a Brit tourist died from suspected food poisoning when he tucked into "half-cooked" chicken on holiday. Bosses at the plush four-star Occidental Jandia Playa insist they follow "strict food hygiene and safety" rules and have hit back with a defiant statement after an inquest heard Leslie Green, from Bolton, Greater Manchester, caught deadly salmonella at the all-inclusive resort, reports the Mirror. The hearing was told the 70-year-old dad ate undercooked chicken during his stay at Occidental Jandia Playa on Fuerteventura, one of Spain's Canary Islands last October. Days later he fell ill with severe diarrhoea and his condition quickly worsened. Mr Green, a retired delivery driver, had only eaten at the hotel with his wife Julie, 60, during their trip. Rochdale Coroner's Court ruled he died from food poisoning caused by partially cooked chicken. However, the Barceló Hotel Group, which runs the Occidental Jandia Playa, said yesterday no salmonella has been detected at the hotel in the last twelve months. The spokesperson said: "We also hold certificates from the aforementioned external audit company confirming that no salmonella has been detected at the hotel in the last twelve months. These audits and controls reflect our ongoing commitment to the health and safety of guests." The Barcelo Hotel Group, founded in Spain in 1981, said it "deeply regrets the death". Its statement in full reads: "The Barceló Hotel Group deeply regrets the death of a guest at our Fuerteventura hotel in November 2024. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "The Barceló Hotel Group has a strict food hygiene and safety protocol that includes rigorous internal controls and periodic external audits performed by an independent company renowned in food safety. "This control system guarantees compliance with applicable regulations and our company's stringent quality standards. We also hold certificates from the aforementioned external audit company confirming that no salmonella has been detected at the hotel in the last twelve months. These audits and controls reflect our ongoing commitment to the health and safety of guests." Mr and Mrs Green were on a Jet2 holiday when tragedy struck. Jet2 said it would be "inappropriate" to comment due to an ongoing legal claim, but offered its "thoughts and condolences" to the Green family. Speaking after the inquest, Mrs Green, a retired nurse, said: "I still struggle to comprehend how we went on holiday, but Leslie didn't come home... He was my best friend and life without him will never be the same."

Europe's safest city is a seaside gem and it's a sunny Mediterranean spot
One popular European city has been named the safest place to visit, according to new research When it comes to planning a holiday, there's a lot to consider from the local cuisine and attractions to accommodation. However, one crucial factor is the safety of the destination. According to an analysis by tour company Riviera Travel, which launched two cruise ships last year, one city has been crowned the safest in Europe. The study took into account current crime levels and the increase in crime over the past five years - and it comes after a warning to Brit tourists planning all-inclusive holidays to Spain. An overall safety score was then calculated, revealing how safe each location is, reports the Express. Topping the list with an overall safety score of 44.14 is the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. Not only is Dubrovnik a safe place to visit, but it also attracts crowds of tourists with its medieval architecture and status as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Known as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic', the city boasts a charming Old Town for visitors to explore. Dubrovnik scored 8.76 from Numbeo for crime level, indicating it's 'very low' and 35.38 for crime increasing over the last five years, also deemed 'low'. Coming in second with an overall safety score of 55.81 is Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Like Dubrovnik, Tallinn is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a medieval city. Visitors can safely enjoy a plethora of cafes and restaurants serving local cuisine. Poland's capital, Warsaw, ranks third with a safety score of 60.19. Despite seeing a 'moderate' increase in crime over the past five years, the popular destination maintains a 'very low' crime level. Many tourists flock to this city to delve into its rich history and sample the vast array of Polish cuisine on offer. Prague, the Czech Republic's capital, came in fourth with a score of 60.88, its 'moderate' crime rating over the past five years contributing to an overall 'very low' crime score. As the largest city in the Czech Republic, Prague draws in thousands of tourists annually, who are captivated by its gothic cathedrals and skyline filled with spires. Kraków took fifth place with a score of 64.31. According to Riviera Travel, it has a 'low' crime level of 20.7 and a 'moderate' increase in crime over the past five years of 43.61. Kraków is home to Europe's largest medieval market square, a renowned Old Town, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meanwhile, Amsterdam ranked sixth with a score of 71.09, followed by Munich in Germany with 73.74 and Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. Zurich was ninth, with Budapest, the capital of Hungary, rounding out the top ten.
