Sprinting tourist grabs seven sunbeds within seconds in 'insane' poolside battle
This is the moment a determined holidaymaker sprints to the pool to bag seven loungers at once.
There is nothing new about the daily battles for sunbeds at holiday resorts around the world, where the savvy sun lovers know to get out early to get the best spots. But what was is surprising in a clip from Tenerife is the speed that one man showed to occupy seven loungers with towels. Jeff Hunter, from Northern Ireland, has told how he watched on in awe as the man legged it towards the most sought-after sunbeds at the hotel.
The 36-year-old claims that after securing all seven loungers, the man returned to his room. To the sound of the Chariots of Fire theme tune the tourist wearing shorts burst into view and then after reaching the beds, he took several steps sideways to lay out the towels. It comes after a Brit abroad slammed all-inclusive hotel food asking 'what on earth is this?'
What was perhaps most surprising was that after putting down his markers, the man didn't return. Jeff, a chef, spent the morning at the pool, and an hour later, the man still hadn't come back to use his reserved spots.
The bizarre footage was captured at Parque Santiago III in Tenerife. The three-star hotel, which costs around £131 a night per person, is the latest resort to face the summer holiday sunbed wars.
Jeff branded the tourists' antics 'insane' after revealing there were 'hundreds' of spare beds by the pool when it happened on August 7. 'I just think it's all a bit insane,' Jeff from Northern Ireland, told Luxury Travel Daily.
'There are hundreds of beds available, but he is dead set on getting the same ones every day. I personally don't mind as long as I can get a bed. 'I don't know the guy. 'He got seven beds and then went back to his room. 'He still wasn't using them an hour later when I left.
'We have been queuing from around 8:30 am for the pool opening at 9 am. He is always already there when we arrive, and from around 8:55 am, he stands in a runner's stance. 'It's the same every day. It's an amazing hotel - just a nightmare in the mornings.'
It comes after last year a young couple, who filmed themselves sneaking down to their hotel pool at 1am to grab the best spot, said holiday sunbed wars were out of control at their resort.
Aimee Millar, 20, said she and her partner had started leaving their room in the middle of the night to grab the best sunbeds after they realised other guests were doing the same.
'In the hotel we stayed at, if we didn't get those certain sunbeds we would've had to pay €7.50 (£6) each for a bed,' said Aimee, who was staying in Albufeira, Portugal. As much as it was crazy we didn't mind doing it at 1am as we were staying up later anyways.'

Spanish hotel gives defiant statement as grandad dies eating 'half-cooked' chicken
The 70-year-old dad ate undercooked chicken during his stay on Fuerteventura and days later he fell ill with condition quickly worsening. A luxury Fuerteventura hotel has broken its silence after a Brit tourist died from suspected food poisoning when he tucked into "half-cooked" chicken on holiday. Bosses at the plush four-star Occidental Jandia Playa insist they follow "strict food hygiene and safety" rules and have hit back with a defiant statement after an inquest heard Leslie Green, from Bolton, Greater Manchester, caught deadly salmonella at the all-inclusive resort, reports the Mirror. The hearing was told the 70-year-old dad ate undercooked chicken during his stay at Occidental Jandia Playa on Fuerteventura, one of Spain's Canary Islands last October. Days later he fell ill with severe diarrhoea and his condition quickly worsened. Mr Green, a retired delivery driver, had only eaten at the hotel with his wife Julie, 60, during their trip. Rochdale Coroner's Court ruled he died from food poisoning caused by partially cooked chicken. However, the Barceló Hotel Group, which runs the Occidental Jandia Playa, said yesterday no salmonella has been detected at the hotel in the last twelve months. The spokesperson said: "We also hold certificates from the aforementioned external audit company confirming that no salmonella has been detected at the hotel in the last twelve months. These audits and controls reflect our ongoing commitment to the health and safety of guests." The Barcelo Hotel Group, founded in Spain in 1981, said it "deeply regrets the death". Speaking after the inquest, Mrs Green, a retired nurse, said: "I still struggle to comprehend how we went on holiday, but Leslie didn't come home... He was my best friend and life without him will never be the same."

One popular European city has been named the safest place to visit, according to new research When it comes to planning a holiday, there's a lot to consider from the local cuisine and attractions to accommodation. However, one crucial factor is the safety of the destination. According to an analysis by tour company Riviera Travel, which launched two cruise ships last year, one city has been crowned the safest in Europe. The study took into account current crime levels and the increase in crime over the past five years - and it comes after a warning to Brit tourists planning all-inclusive holidays to Spain. An overall safety score was then calculated, revealing how safe each location is, reports the Express. Topping the list with an overall safety score of 44.14 is the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. Not only is Dubrovnik a safe place to visit, but it also attracts crowds of tourists with its medieval architecture and status as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Known as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic', the city boasts a charming Old Town for visitors to explore. Dubrovnik scored 8.76 from Numbeo for crime level, indicating it's 'very low' and 35.38 for crime increasing over the last five years, also deemed 'low'. Coming in second with an overall safety score of 55.81 is Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Like Dubrovnik, Tallinn is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a medieval city. Visitors can safely enjoy a plethora of cafes and restaurants serving local cuisine. Poland's capital, Warsaw, ranks third with a safety score of 60.19. Despite seeing a 'moderate' increase in crime over the past five years, the popular destination maintains a 'very low' crime level. Many tourists flock to this city to delve into its rich history and sample the vast array of Polish cuisine on offer. Prague, the Czech Republic's capital, came in fourth with a score of 60.88, its 'moderate' crime rating over the past five years contributing to an overall 'very low' crime score. As the largest city in the Czech Republic, Prague draws in thousands of tourists annually, who are captivated by its gothic cathedrals and skyline filled with spires. Kraków took fifth place with a score of 64.31. According to Riviera Travel, it has a 'low' crime level of 20.7 and a 'moderate' increase in crime over the past five years of 43.61. Kraków is home to Europe's largest medieval market square, a renowned Old Town, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meanwhile, Amsterdam ranked sixth with a score of 71.09, followed by Munich in Germany with 73.74 and Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. Zurich was ninth, with Budapest, the capital of Hungary, rounding out the top ten.
