Sacramento and McNair agreed to part ways immediately after the Kings' 120-106 NBA play-in tournament loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center.
And with the search for a new general manager underway, former Kings vice president of basketball operations and current New York Knicks general manager Scott Perry is expected to receive strong interest for the position in Sacramento and is considered a frontrunner, The Athletic's Sam Amick and Anthony Slater reported late Wednesday night, citing league sources.
Amick and Slater also reported, citing league sources, that former Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth also is expected to be given consideration.
Perry previously served as Kings vice president of basketball operations for three months in 2017 before he was hired as New York's general manager. Throughout his tenure with New York, the Knicks have posted a 293-337 record across eight seasons with four playoff appearances in 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Booth, who was fired by Denver alongside championship-winning coach Mike Malone on April 8, previously interviewed with Sacramento for its general manager job in 2020 before the team hired McNair.
Whomever the Kings choose as their next general manager will have influence on the team's search for its next coach, although current interim coach Doug Christie is well-positioned to keep the job, Amick and Slater reported, citing team sources.
Amick and Slater also reported, citing league sources, that McNair now could return to a front-office role with the Houston Rockets, where he spent 13 years before joining the Kings.

Giants send Hayden Birdsong to Triple-A Sacramento

The San Francisco Giants optioned Hayden Birdsong to Triple-A Sacramento after the right-hander failed to record an out in Monday night's 9-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Birdsong (4-4) issued four walks, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch while allowing five runs against the Braves. He threw just six of his 25 pitches for strikes in the Giants' sixth straight loss. It was the first time in 37 career appearances Birdsong did not record an out. He has 17 walks in his last 13 innings. The loss left Birdsong's ERA at 4.80, including an 8.13 mark in his last seven starts. San Francisco also optioned right-hander Tristan Beck to Sacramento and recalled right-handers Carson Seymour and Sean Hjelle from the Triple-A team in moves announced by the team on Tuesday. Artwork created by Sacramento-area artist used to promote FIFA World Cup matches in Bay Area

World Cup soccer is just 11 months away from coming to the San Francisco Bay Area and a Sacramento County man's artwork is being used to promote the matches around the world. "This is the FIFA World Cup 26 SF Bay Area host city poster," poster designer Leroid Davis said. "I wanted to include a little bit of the landscape of the Bay Area." Davis, who is from Elk Grove, won the contest to design the official FIFA World Cup poster for Bay Area matches at Levi's Stadium next year. "I still get emotional thinking about it. It's such a surreal and incredible feeling, it still feels like a dream," Davis said. He drew inspiration from some of San Francisco's most iconic sights. "The Golden Gate Bridge, along with the Bay Bridge," he said. San Francisco is one of 16 cities across North America selected to host the World Cup tournament, something that hasn't happened since 1994. Six matches will be played here. "I never thought I would be a part of something this big," Davis said. The FIFA World Cup is the most widely watched sporting event in the world and Davis is still trying to grasp the significance of his artwork being potentially seen by a billion or more people around the planet. "For something as huge as the World Cup, I can't imagine what it's going to be like," Davis said. Davis works full-time for Sacramento County, but does freelance graphic design on the side, including some past projects with the 49ers and the Kings. He's also a big soccer fan and hopes that with this win, he might be able to score some tickets to the Bay Area matches. "I am so hoping to be there," Davis said. It's unknown which teams will be playing in the Bay Area World Cup competition, but the first match begins on June 13, 2026, and continues through July 1, 2026.
