ITV quietly adds 'captivating' mystery after fans rave over four seasons

Daily Mirror01-07-2025
ITV has subtly added all four series of a beloved mystery drama to its streaming platform. Roswell, New Mexico, originally broadcast on The CW from 2019 to 2002.
The show is a reboot of the 1999 version, inspired by the Roswell High book series penned by Melinda Metz.
Featuring Jeanine Mason, Nathan Dean and Michael Vlamis, the plot centres around Liz, the daughter of undocumented immigrants, who returns to her hometown of Roswell in New Mexico a decade after her older sister's death, only to uncover a startling secret about her teenage sweetheart, Max.
It transpires that he is an alien who has been concealing his supernatural abilities and true identity for years.
As Liz and Max rekindle their relationship, she strives to safeguard his secret. However, when a violent incident suggests there are more aliens on Earth, his concealed identity becomes jeopardised, reports Devon Live.
"The politics of fear and hatred that run rampant in Roswell threaten to expose Max and his family and could endanger his deepening romance with Liz...as well as their lives," the synopsis hints.
In addition to Grey's Anatomy star Jeanine and General Hospital actor Nathan, the cast boasts Lily Cowles, Tyler Blackburn, Heather Hemmens and Michael Trevino.
Fans have been singing the praises of the series since its initial airing.
A viewer was effusive in their praise, saying: "This tv series is worth your time no matter who you are. Roswell New Mexico is my ultimate favourite tv show without doubt. From the excellent direction to captivating storyline. This tv series deserves more appreciation. its authenticity makes it even more enticing to watch."
Another confessed their adoration for the show, remarking: "I love this show! Modern, smart, great at dodging some of the more cliché tropes-also has some really great acting."
In a spirited review, a third fan declared: "This generates the adrenaline.. It felt like I had permanent goosebumps the entire show! I just love how every character has a role and has a part to play and is important.. This series has a good unpredictable plot. This show is VERY UNDERRATED."
While Roswell, New Mexico got the chop from The CW, the finale gave fans closure, serving as a dignified farewell not originally planned.
Showrunner Chris Hollier shared with EW the ambitions laid to rest due to the cancellation: "This [finale] was intended to help launch us to a nice wrap-up of season five. More craziness would've followed."
He discussed what might have been, including time leaps towards a "legacy ending": "What does it mean when you start to find the people that you want to be with? How do you actually go and generate your own happy ever after? I loved where we were going to take those characters."
Hollier revealed tantalising glimpses into a future that will never be aired: "We were talking about setting the ending multiple years in the future. It would've been another wrap-up with where all of our couples were."
Roswell, New Mexico is available to watch on ITVX.

Box 14 showed a character fast asleep and travelling in a striped car, with an alarm clock on the front. Sue guessed "speeding" before opting to pass to box 13. This showed two cardinals standing outside a building with an arrow pointing towards one of them, and Sue suggested it could represent "right bishop" or "right priest" and "right cook." Would you have had any ideas? The star then ran out of time, but scooped £10K for her efforts, to add to the £6,900 she won for charity earlier in the show. Stephen remarked on her performance and said: "£10k you were going for it there!" to which she replied: "I got really stymied on 13 and 14, it would be interesting to see what they are." Number 13 was revealed as an arch bishop while 14 represented the phrase fast asleep. Sue quipped: "Oh thats good - you fiends!" Double The Money has seemingly been given the boot following its airing last year. The show saw 13 pairs of Brits using their entrepreneurial spirit to try to double a certain amount of money in a set time frame. Stephen Mulhern's career so far The presenter is a mainstay on various ITV shows, but how did he become one of Britain's most well-known faces? Stephen first gained an interest in magic and tricks from his father who taught him as a kid. After performing at Butlins, he became the youngest member of the Magic Circle and even made an appearance on Blue Peter in a piece about Harry Houdini. His career started in Children's TV when he presenter the show Finger Tips in 2001. After four years, he launched Tricky TV on CITV in 2005, which he presented until 2010. During this time, he was handpicked by bosses to front the ITV2 spin-off for Britain's Got Talent. He presented Britain's Got More Talent until the cancelation of the companion in 2019. But it's not all bad news for Stephen who is known for his duties on a number of quiz shows. In for a Penny, a format originally launched on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway was launched the same year. Before, he was chosen by bosses to host Catchphrase in 2013 and has been fronting the show ever since. Other huge shows he presented for ITV included Big Star's Little Star, Rolling In It and the reboot of Deal Or No Deal. He also made regular appearances on This Morning in 'The Hub' segment between 2011 and 2014. After the Philip Schofield scandal rocked ITV, he was chosen to reunite with his former CITV co-star Holly Willoughby as the host of Dancing on Ice. If they were unable to do so, they faced a brutal elimination round which saw them axed from the game. The contest continued week by week, with the amount of money increasing as time went on. Eventually, those that made the final had to convert £10,000 into £20,000 in the space of a month. Whichever couple managed to convert the most won the show as well as receiving an additional £20,000 on top of their earnings to be crowned champions. However, in a blow to the programme's fans, it is understood that Channel 4 bosses have opted not to bring the show back for another go-around. Plans for a second series have been abandoned and the show has been shelved, according to TVZone. Hosting the game show marked a change in direction for Sue after presenting a slew of travel programmes throughout 2024. 5 A religious themed brain teaser on box 13 also caused issues Credit: ITV

But, in our view, negative behaviour in the villa was not shown in a positive light, and contestants were seen supporting or apologising to each other. The Home review – Pete Davidson gets spooky with retirement-facility horror

In this retirement home horror, Pete Davidson plays Max, a graffiti artist who must work in a plush-yet-spooky facility as part of his community service. This deal is worked out by his foster father as a last-ditch effort to keep him out of prison; he's been spiralling towards the drain since the death of his older foster brother, who apparently killed himself, and whose memory haunts Max's dreams. You don't cast Davidson for his everyman qualities as he's not quite your average Joe; he's much more plausible as, say, a TikTok star or a charismatic drug dealer. He's also become something of an avatar for youth, one of those thirtysomethings that can credibly evoke the sensibilities of those more than 10 years his junior. It makes sense, then, to see him in this role as the one relatively young person at the retirement home, grumbling: 'Best generation my fucking dick … fucking boomers.' Regrettably, though, The Home doesn't have the requisite spark or internal logic needed to really tick along to a satisfying conclusion. It has plenty of would-be arresting imagery and icky scares, many of which rely on a physical gerontophobia not unusual in horror films, wherein the spectacle of age itself is held to be inherently revolting. Moreover, as a theme, ageing offers some wide-open horror goals for a society in which politicians in their 70s and 80s mire future generations in inequality, the climate crisis and war. The Home, though, is more interested in a cool kill shot and can't quite decide if the condition of being old lends itself more to creating monsters or victims. This may have been pitched as 'Get Out but with age' (and there's a final 10-minute sequence that was worth signing up for alone), but there's none of the consistency of vision or theme achieved by Jordan Peele's modern horror classic. The Home is on digital platforms from 22 August
