Pub popular with horse racing community closes

Yahoo13-06-2025
A village pub that was a popular place of celebration among the horse racing community has closed.
The Hollow Bottom in the Cotswold village of Guiting Power lies about ten miles (16km) east of from Cheltenham Racecourse and was a popular spot for celebrating Gold Cup wins and yard successes.
Jo Collinson, a groom who formerly worked for trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies, said the pub's atmosphere was "just as amazing as Gold Cup day itself" when Imperial Commander, who she looked after, brought home the trophy in 2010.
A spokesperson for Young's, which owns the Hollow Bottom, said it was closing after "a careful review of our plans" before the lease ended.

The Hollow Bottom previously closed in 2019 and was purchased and reopened by the Lucky Onion, a hospitality group owned by Julian Dunkerton, the founder of Superdry.
Young's bought it in 2022. They announced that the pub was closing on Sunday.
"We would like to thank the local community for their support over the last five years. We will be in contact directly with any customers who have future bookings with the pub."
Now a groom for Jonjo O'Neill, Ms Collinson said "every Christmas party and many birthday celebrations" were spent at the Hollow Bottom when she worked for Twiston-Davies, who is based in nearby Naunton.
Ms Collinson said she helped take three winning horses, including Imperial Commander down to the "absolutely heaving" Hollow Bottom on Gold Cup Day 2010.
"There were people on the flat roof above the door, the cars couldn't get through on the road, it was amazing.
"It was like leading him back in on the racecourse all over again... We piled down the Hollow Bottom to celebrate it for days."
Ms Collinson said the pub was "wild" after every meet, regardless of the time of year.
"A piece of my heart will always be at the Hollow Bottom, when we celebrated winners and had those Christmas parties there and had a lot of fun with the best friends," she said.
"It was the best times and I'll never forget them."

Indiana Fever sign Odyssey Sims to second seven-day hardship contract

After contributing solid minutes off the bench over the past week, the Indiana Fever chose to sign point guard Odyssey Sims to a second seven-day hardship contract on Sunday as the team enters its five-day hiatus before its next game on Friday. In her three games played so far for the Fever, Sims is averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game on 40.7% shooting from the field, 20.0% from 3-point territory, and 77.8% from the free-throw line. Fortunately for Sims, her spot on the roster seems to be safe for now, as the team released point guard Kyra Lambert, who the Fever had signed on Thursday of last week to a seven-day hardship contract. With Lambert's release, the impending roster decisions for general manager Amber Cox will be much simpler, with Caitlin Clark potentially making her return over the next few games. As a cloud of uncertainty still surrounds the Monday MRI test results of Sophie Cunningham's knee injury, Sims' production in her small sample size adds a layer of comfort for head coach Stephanie White, regardless of Cunningham's status. Indiana's next game will be on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ION. ESPN highlights three Colorado football games as must-watch in 2025

Since Deion Sanders took over the Colorado football program in 2022, national eyes have centered on the Buffs. That should once again be the case in 2025 after Colorado finished with a 9-4 record last season. ESPN's Bill Connelly dove into the best ways to enjoy the upcoming college football season, and three Colorado games made his must-watch list. Under the headline "bask in wild conference title races," Connelly highlights how each Big 12 Conference matchup can dramatically change a team's trajectory. Colorado visiting Utah makes the Week 9 slate of must-see games, while the Buffs' road matchup against Kansas State is one of the top regular-season finales. The Colorado love does not stop there, as Connelly also rates the Buffs' season opener against Georgia Tech as the top non-weekend game for Week 1. The Yellow Jackets come to Boulder on Friday, Aug. 29, which should be a good early-season test for both squads. Colorado's popularity is not dipping anytime soon, and with four of its first five games scheduled for national broadcasts, the Buffs will once again be front and center. Can the Buffs absorb the loss of several key starters and make a run at a Big 12 title? That remains the central question just 11 days out from the opener. Michigan State football WR coach Courtney Hawkins breaks down position group amidst camp

Michigan State football is in the midst of camp as it prepares for the 2025 season, and in particularly, the week one showdown with Western Michigan. One thing that has been a constant throughout camp, the wide receiver room is showing out and could be one of the deepest rooms in the conference. A big thanks for constructing, and coaching that room, goes to wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins, who time and time again shows that he is an elite coach at the position group. Hawkins was masterful at building a transfer portal class to go along with retaining Nick Marsh, and it gives MSU fans a ton to be excited about. On Monday, Hawkins was the coach tabbed to speak to the media, where he broke down his position group and spoke about how deep of a group he has, while highlighting the play of some specific players.
