Time of India25-04-2025

Days after a massive operation against Maoists, involving about 10,000 security personnel along the
Chhattisgarh-Telangana border
was launched, a letter purportedly claiming to halt the operation and initiate talks with Maoists surfaced on Friday. The letter is said to have been issued by one the regional in-charge of the banned CPI (Maoist).

The statement by Maoists, being circulated on social media, says that despite the possibility of solving the problem through peace talks, the government was using repression and violence. Some 500 cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist), including top leaders, are believed to be holed up in the area, and the Telangana Police is assisting in the exercise, said an official, who is monitoring the action on the ground. The operation, one of biggest counter-insurgency actions launched in the
Bastar region
, involves personnel of different units, including the District Reserve Guard, Bastar Fighters and Special Task Force of the Chhattisgarh Police, CRPF and its elite Commando Battalions for Resolute Action.
On Thursday, three women Maoists were killed on Karregutta hills, and a huge cache of weapons, explosives and other materials was recovered. The operation was launched on Monday in the densely forested hills of Karregutta and Durgamgutta along the inter-state border. Parts of the area fall in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. It is believed to be the base of the PLGA (People's Liberation Guerilla Army) battalion No. 1, the strongest military formation of the Maoists, an official said.

Intelligence inputs suggest more than 500 Naxalites belonging to PLGA battalion No 1, Telangana state committee and Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee of Maoists led by senior Maoists such as Hidma and Damodar are holed up in the area, he said.

Police urge citizens to use new anti-narcotics helpline

Jaipur: Rajasthan Police has urge citizens to actively use the Union govt's newly launched anti-narcotics helpline, MANAS-1933, aimed at curbing drug trafficking and supporting rehabilitation of those affected by drug addiction. The 24x7 helpline allows the public to confidentially share information related to narcotics smuggling, as well as seek counselling and guidance for individuals battling substance abuse. The initiative is part of the Union govt's "Zero Tolerance" policy towards drugs and is linked with anti-narcotics task forces (ANTFs) across India. According to officials, the helpline is a key component of the govt's broader vision of achieving a drug-free India by 2047. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, ensuring both security and trust, they said. The directive for state-level implementation and mass awareness of the helpline comes from Mahendra Kumar Khinchi, joint secretary of the home department. All departments have been instructed to ensure widespread promotion of MANAS-1933, with efforts extending down to schools, colleges, and village councils. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Düsseldorf: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo To support this awareness drive, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has launched an official awareness portal — — offering posters, brochures, videos, and other materials that can be downloaded and shared with the public. US-China talks in London: Rare earths, export curbs on table

Talks between the US and China kicked off in London on Monday, with the US signaling a willingness to remove restrictions on exports in exchange for assurances that China is easing limits on rare earth shipments. The Trump administration expects that "after the handshake" in London, any export controls from the US will be eased and rare earths will be released by China, Kevin Hassett , head of the at the White House's National Economic Council, told CNBC. It was the clearest signal yet that the US is willing to offer such a concession. The first round of negotiations since the teams met a month ago is aimed at restoring confidence that both are living up to commitments made in Geneva. During those discussions, Washington and Beijing agreed to lower crippling tariffs for 90 days to allow time to hammer out ways to address a trade imbalance that the Trump administration blames on an unfair playing field. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Windows Users Don't Forget To Do This Before Monday Read More Undo Aim is to Dodge Clash The confusion after the Geneva meeting about China's rare earth export-permitting process, combined with US limits on tech shipments and Washington's recent crackdown on Chinese student visas, underscore the complexity of deal-making between China and the US. Live Events "They left too many things open to interpretation," said Josh Lipsky , chair of international economics at the Atlantic Council. The US and China "just want to get back to where they were in Switzerland with a few more agreements down on paper to understand what is gonna be licensed, what gets permitted, what doesn't," he added. A phone call last week between President Donald Trump and his counterpart Xi Jinping appeared to give fresh momentum to reviving talks and reaching a deal. On Monday at London's Lancaster HouseUS Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will meet a Chinese delegation led by Vice Premier He Lifeng. The addition of Lutnick, who's in charge of curbs on the sale of advanced technology, signals Trump may be willing to consider reversing some of the restrictions that threaten to hobble China's long-term growth ambitions, ranging from tech supplies to jet engine parts.
