A Bahraini Delegation Heads to Italy to Promote Investment Opportunities

A delegation from the Kingdom of Bahrain, led by HE. Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, has commenced a three-day strategic visit to Italy. Featuring a series of curated business events, as well as official and private sector meetings, the visit aims to strengthen economic and trade ties between Bahrain and Italy. During the multi-city visit, which includes Rome, Parma and Milan, the official delegation is expected to highlight Bahrain's diverse investment offering across priority sectors, included financial services, ICT manufacturing, logistics and tourism. Bahrain's delegation also includes H.E. Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB); H.E. Khalid Humaidan, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain; H.E. Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of Mumtalakat; H.E. Hamad Al Mahmeed, Director General of the Prime Minister's Office; Mr. Ali AlMudaifa, Chief of Business Development at Bahrain EDB; Mohammed AlAlawi; Chief of Marketing and Communications at Bahrain EDB; Mr. Ugo Vincenzini, Advisor to the Chief Executive of Bahrain EDB and Mohamed AlMadani, Head of Manufacturing, Logistics and Transport at Bahrain EDB. This visit underscores Bahrain's strategic efforts to attract investment, fostering economic growth, and creating employment opportunities. It forms part of the Kingdom's broader strategic efforts to position the Kingdom as a competitive regional hub for international business, reaffirming Bahrain's commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with Italy and fostering mutually beneficial economic collaborations. Bahrain and Italy share a robust history of economic and trade ties that date back to 1973, where recent bilateral agreements include granting Italy partnership status for sea-to-air freight services. Trade between Bahrain and Italy has grown steadily over the past years, with overall non-oil trade reaching USD 775 million in 2024. Additionally, the two countries have signed two economic agreements relating to the protection of investments and equal treatment of anchorage and port taxes.
Today, Bahrain is home to numerous Italian companies benefiting from the Kingdom's strategic value proposition. Notable recent examples include the Italian pasta producer Barilla's setting up an office in Bahrain to serve as the central hub to support the company's expansion plans into the MENA market. Additionally, the racing components manufacturer Racing Force expanded its Bahrain headquarters to double its production of Bell Racing helmets to meet growing demand globally. Italian Ambassador Andrea Catalano welcomed those in attendance and thanked Bahrain for its role in supporting what he described as a longstanding friendship between the two countries. 'I'm extremely honoured today to host this celebration, the 79th anniversary of the Italian Republic, here in Bahrain,' he said. 'It commemorates the friendship between our two nations, which we will work to make even stronger, building on the visit of Prime Minister Meloni to the Kingdom last January and future visits we hope to see to Italy.' The reception in Manama followed a number of recent meetings and visits between Rome and Bahrain, with both sides aiming to deepen political and economic ties.

Banking with rewards Alongside the main winner, 50 Al Barakat customers received Eid Al Adha cash prizes of USD 500 each. Chief Retail Officer Mazin Dhaif noted that the Al Barakat Account continues to turn clients' savings into opportunities. He described the prize scheme as more than a financial reward, calling it 'a life-enhancing tool' that reflects the Bank's commitment to rewarding loyalty through Shari'a-compliant savings. Largest prize pool With a total prize pool of USD 4 million in 2025, the Al Barakat scheme stands as the largest of its kind in Bahrain's Islamic banking sector. The bank said the programme is designed to strengthen customer trust by blending consistent saving habits with chances to win valuable rewards. The Al Barakat Investment Account is available via the Bank's mobile app with a minimum deposit of BD 50 or USD 135. Accounts can also be opened for minors through a legal guardian. All cash prizes are awarded under Shari'a guidelines, reinforcing Al Baraka's promise of ethical banking that uplifts its community.

Al Baraka posts strong quarterly turnaround

TDT | Manama Al Baraka Group has reported a strong financial turnaround in the first quarter of 2025, reversing last year's losses and delivering a 19% rise in net income attributable to shareholders. The Group registered USD 34 million in total comprehensive income during the quarter, a sharp contrast to a USD 60 million loss in the same period of 2024. Earnings rebound The Group's net income attributable to the parent company's shareholders rose to USD 46 million in Q1 2025, up from USD 39 million last year. Total net income also saw a 19% increase, reaching USD 91 million. Executives credited the gains to rising financing volumes, expanded activity in key markets including Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt, and lower foreign currency translation losses. Basic earnings per share improved to 3.84 US cents, compared to 3.23 US cents in Q1 2024. Strengthening capital Al Baraka's total equity attributable to shareholders and sukuk holders rose 2% to reach USD 1.28 billion, while total equity grew to USD 2.03 billion by the end of March. The Group also recorded a 4% increase in total assets, which stood at USD 27.24 billion, driven by stronger customer deposits and business growth in core markets. Chairman Sheikh Abdullah Saleh Kamel said the Group's performance was anchored in its commitment to strategic expansion, disciplined risk oversight, and continued support for the communities it serves. Innovation focus Group CEO Houssem Ben Haj Amor highlighted the Group's resilience in the face of global uncertainty, citing its focus on long-term financial sustainability, investment returns, and digital banking innovations. Recent initiatives such as the 'Trade Finance Platform' and 'Borderless Banking' are part of the Group's drive to enhance competitiveness across its international network. With operations in 13 countries and over 600 branches, Al Baraka continues to position itself as a key Islamic financial player committed to growth and innovation in a changing global environment.
