Jaisalmer: The Jodhpur Police's Cycloner team arrested Narayan Singh, a notorious opium smuggler from Madhya Pradesh, during Operation Ramaniya on Friday. Singh, who had a Rs 40,000 bounty on his head, was apprehended in Barmer while attempting to collect dues from opium transactions.
Inspector General Vikas Kumar said Singh, hailing from Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, was heavily involved in smuggling opium from Madhya Pradesh and Mewar to districts in Marwar, including Barmer, Balotra, Jalore, and Jodhpur. Despite being under police surveillance, Singh had managed to evade capture until now.
Singh began his smuggling network after recognizing the high profits in Marwar, where opium is a wedding prestige symbol. TNN

Ludhiana native shot dead by assailants in Canada's Edmonton
Inderpal Singh, a native of Ludhiana's Jand village was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Edmonton, Canada on June 4. Singh leaves behind a pregnant wife and an eight-year-old daughter. Local residents who heard the gunshots immediately alerted the authorities,' police said. Medical officials later confirmed that Singh died instantly after being shot multiple times. While investigations are ongoing, police are not ruling out the possibility of a personal rivalry or gang-related involvement behind the murder. No arrests have been made so far. As of now, the motive behind the killing remains unclear. According to the family members, he had recently brought his wife to Canada on a work permit. The couple was expecting their second child and had hoped to build a better life overseas. The news has devastated the family. Just months earlier, Singh's father had passed away during a visit to Canada on a temporary visa. The victim's close friend Harry confirmed that Inderpal had no known enemies. 'The family's financial condition is dire, and efforts are being made through fundraising platforms like GoFundMe to assist his kin,' Harry said. The Indian community in Edmonton has expressed outrage over the incident, demanding swift action from law enforcement agencies. Local advocacy groups have also called for better protection of immigrants and delivery workers who are often exposed to high-risk environments. The family is now seeking support from both Indian and Canadian authorities to ensure justice is delivered and his body is brought back home for final rites.

Espionage case: Punjab YouTuber Jasbir's police remand extended by 2 days
A Mohali court on Saturday extended for two days the police remand of Punjab-based YouTuber Jasbir Singh, who was arrested on espionage charges on June 4. Jasbir Singh, 41, was produced in the court after his three-day police remand ended on Saturday. Police sought a seven-day remand, but the court granted them two days, his counsel said. Jasbir Singh was in touch with influencer Jyoti Malhotra, who is in custody on charges of spying for Pakistan, and after his arrest, the police had said that it had unearthed a terror-backed espionage network linking him to Pakistani intelligence and army officials. 'Haryana Police had summoned Jasbir Singh on June 6 in the Jyoti Malhotra espionage case but before he could join the investigation, he was arrested by Punjab Police', Jasbir Singh's counsel Mohit Dhupar claimed on Saturday. He also denied the charge that Singh was an agent of Pakistan's spy agency ISI. Jasbir alias Jaan Mahal, a resident of Mahlan village in Rupnagar district, was running a YouTube channel 'JaanMahal Video' with over 11 lakh subscribers, ostensibly posting travel and cooking vlogs. After Singh's arrest, Punjab police had claimed that it unearthed a 'terror-backed espionage network' linking him to Pakistani intelligence and army officials. Police had said that the YouTuber was allegedly spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Dhupar said he met him in the court on Saturday. 'We spoke to him. There is no such thing that is being said in the media that he was an ISI agent,' said Dhupar, claiming he was just a vlogger. Dhupar said Singh was summoned by Punjab Police from May 17 till May 30. He had already given his mobile phone and laptop to the police, said the counsel. Dhupar said on June 2, Hisar police summoned Singh to join the investigation in the Jyoti Malhotra case on June 6. When Punjab Police came to know about him being summoned by the Haryana police, Singh was asked to appear on June 3 and he was arrested on June 4, said the counsel. Hisar native Malhotra (33) who was running a YouTube channel 'Travel with JO' was arrested last month. On May 13, India expelled Danish, who was posted at the Pakistan High Commission, for allegedly indulging in espionage. Jasbir was allegedly found to be associated with a Pakistani Intelligence Operative (PIO). He was in contact with a Pakistan high commission official who was recently expelled from New Delhi on charges of spying and had met Pakistan Army officials during one of his three visits to the neighbouring country, police had earlier said. He was allegedly in close contact with Jyoti Malhotra and was also associated with PIO Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, cops said. The accused had also travelled to Pakistan on three occasions including in 2020, 2021 and 2024, and came into direct contact with ISI officers, who subsequently cultivated and recruited him to carry out espionage activities within India, police had said. Investigations revealed that Singh attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi on Danish's invitation, where he met Pakistani Army officials and vloggers. After Jyoti Malhotra's arrest, accused Singh had attempted to erase all traces of his communications with these PIOs to avoid detection, police had said.

Family of UP woman cop, found dead in May, alleges she was sexually assaulted
A 27-year-old woman constable of the Uttar Pradesh Police was found dead in her rented accommodation in Lucknow on May 27. Her body was discovered hanging, in what is now emerging as a case of abetment to suicide following serious allegations of blackmail, sexual exploitation and financial constable, originally from Amroha district, had joined the UP Police in 2019. She was initially posted to Ghazipur police station and had been working at Madiyaon police station for the past two victim's family has accused a man named Satwant, also from Amroha, of repeatedly blackmailing her, sexually exploiting her, and extorting nearly Rs 12.5 lakh from her. The constable was found dead in her house in the Sarvodaya Nagar area. Following the family's complaint, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against the accused at the Ghazipur police Commissioner of Police (Crime) Babloo Kumar confirmed that Satwant is currently absconding and efforts are on to trace him."Preliminary investigation has revealed that the constable was under severe financial and emotional stress. We are conducting a thorough investigation, and further action will be taken based on the evidence," he said.
