Dubai is set to enhance its religious infrastructure following a new strategy. Under an agreement signed between Dubai Municipality and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, efforts will focus on preserving heritage mosques and improving the management of funeral and cemetery services. The initiative aims to create a unified vision for mosque design and construction while safeguarding the emirate's cultural, religious, and architectural heritage, the Dubai Government Media Office said. 'It strengthens our joint efforts to provide high-quality services that benefit the entire community while preserving the authentic character of historic mosques and prayer sites,' said Ahmad Bin Ghalita, director general of Dubai Municipality. 'The partnership also reflects our commitment to enhancing quality of life by developing public facilities that embody Dubai's cultural and religious identity, blending urban progress with heritage conservation,' he added. As part of the plan, Dubai Municipality will restore and maintain heritage mosques, ensuring their traditional character and architectural authenticity are preserved. Eid prayer grounds will also be upgraded to accommodate the emirate's urban and demographic growth, the media office said.

Dubai Municipality has signed a strategic agreement with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) to upgrade religious infrastructure, preserve heritage mosques, enhance Eid prayer grounds, and improve funeral and cemetery services across the emirate. The partnership aims to unify design and construction standards for mosques, ensuring cultural and architectural heritage is preserved. Dubai Municipality will restore and maintain heritage mosques, while IACAD will oversee operations, including staffing, religious programmes, and daily upkeep. Both entities will streamline mosque construction processes, simplify procedures, and integrate IACAD's engineering and planning standards into the Dubai Building Code. Developers will be encouraged to establish temporary prayer spaces for workers, and donors will be invited to support mosque construction using advanced 3D printing technology. Funeral and cemetery services will also be upgraded. Dubai Municipality will improve mortuary washing facilities and provide logistical support, while IACAD will manage all Shariah-related aspects, from appointing staff for washing and shrouding to licensing mortuary washers and ensuring compliance with religious guidelines. His Excellency Marwan Ahmad Bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the agreement strengthens efforts to deliver high-quality services while safeguarding historic mosques and prayer sites. His Excellency Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director General of IACAD, highlighted the goal of creating spaces that reflect Islamic values, preserve heritage, and serve all segments of society. The agreement also includes enhancements to Eid prayer grounds to meet urban and demographic needs.
