Teen feared drowned in attempt to cross mining pond
IPOH: A teenage boy is feared to have drowned while attempting to swim across a mining pond in Jalan Kilang Simen, Kota Bharu near Gopeng, yesterday evening.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 6.49 pm and arrived at the scene about 20 minutes later.
'The victim, identified as Muhammad Fazrul Qusry, 18, is believed to have drowned while trying to cross the pond. His friend searched the area for about 30 minutes before contacting the MERS 999 emergency line.
'The search and rescue (SAR) operation was suspended at around 11 pm due to poor weather and visibility, but periodic monitoring continued overnight. The operation resumed at 8 am today,' he said in a statement.
He said the SAR operation involves seven JBPM personnel, six police officers and members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force.

All repair costs would be borne by the contractor because the project is still within the defects liability period (DLP,' he said. Meanwhile, Assistant Director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Penang, John Sagun Francis, said a team of seven members from the Batu Kawan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was sent to the location after the department received a call regarding the soil depression. On arrival, the team found that a soil depression had occurred, but there were no victims involved. Immediate action was taken to close off the affected area and ensure no vehicles were allowed on the compromised section of the road,' he said. The incident gained public attention yesterday after a social media post went viral, showing images of the soil depression along the main road near the Batu Kawan bridge. The post also highlighted visible cracks on the concrete structure dividing the road. Melaka teen with learning disability missing after searching for lost cow, K9 unit joins search and rescue efforts
MELAKA, June 6 — Muhamad Aidil Asyraf Fadli, a 15-year-old boy with learning disability, has been reported missing in a forest, after going to look for a missing cow in Kampung Permatang Pasir, yesterday evening. Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the search and rescue (SAR) operation also involved sniffer dogs from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) K9 Unit, but the search has yet to yield any leads. 'The K9 unit deployed to track his scent has not produced any positive results, and no clues have been found as to the victim's whereabouts. 'In fact, all of the cattle under the boy's care are found to be safe and accounted for,' he told reporters here today. Dzulkhairi said there are no visible signs or clues to indicate the victim's direction of movement, and the boy's mobile phone is believed to have been switched off, further complicating tracking efforts. 'As of this evening, the search efforts are ongoing, including combing nearby rivers and ponds. The operation will continue as long as necessary,' he said. Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) public relations officer Deputy Superintendent II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said search efforts for Muhamad Aidil Asyraf began shortly after receiving an emergency call around 11.54 pm last night. Fire dept receives 42 integrity-related complaints as of May
KOTA BHARU: The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department's (JBPM) Integrity Unit has received 42 integrity-related complaints, involving its officers and personnel, as of May 2025. Its director-general, Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad, said the highest number of complaints fell under misconduct, with 22 cases, followed by power abuse (eight), sexual harassment or scandal (four), enforcement issues (four), corruption (three) and misappropriation (one). He added that the misconduct cases included five related to disciplinary issues, three cases of domestic violence, three involving misuse of social media; two cases each of a lavish lifestyle, fraud, and loan issues; as well as one case each of vandalism and negligence in duty, with three falling under other categories. "Although we received 42 complaints related to the integrity of our officers and personnel, the department views these reports positively, as they serve as a preventative measure to curb future misconduct. "In fact, thanks to these complaints, we've observed a significant drop in disciplinary actions with only 13 cases recorded this year, compared with 55 last year," he said. He said this to reporters after officiating a talk on governance, integrity and anti-corruption, at the Kelantan National Department for Culture and Arts Complex in Tanjung Chat, on Thursday (June 5). Kelantan JBPM director, Farhan Sufyan Borhan, also attended it. Nor Hisham said that out of the 13 disciplinary actions recorded this year, 11 involved absence from duty–a shift from previous years, where drug abuse was the most common offence among officers and personnel. "We also observed an increase in complaints filed through the e-aduan portal and the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA), with 95 cases recorded last year, compared with 87 in 2023.
