Three men fined RM11,000 for possessing obscene content in Kelantan
Mohd Hanafi Ibrahim, 47, was fined RM3,000, while Muhammad Al Azamuddin Al Fadzil, 22, and Mohamad Syahmi Firas Mohd Jurij, 27, were each fined RM4,000 after pleading guilty before Magistrate Wan Mohd Izzat Wan Abdullah.
According to separate charges read out to them, all three were accused of possessing obscene images and videos on their respective mobile phones.
They pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a house on Jalan Kemumin, Kampung Pulau Belacan, Panchor, here at 1.15am on June 18.
They were charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Nadzir Abdullah and Nur Haziqah Hassan prosecuted the case, while all three accused were represented by lawyer Samantha Chong Yin Xin.
Earlier, Muhammad Nadzir and Nur Haziqah urged the court to impose a sentence that would serve as a deterrent to the public.
Samantha, however, pleaded for leniency, requesting the minimum fine as her clients had repented and promised to change.
"Mohd Hanafi suffers from a brain condition and underwent head surgery in 2016. He is now dependent on his sister for support.
"Muhammad Al Azamuddin is a first-year university student, while Mohamad Syahmi Firas is a final-year polytechnic student.
"They have all promised not to repeat this offence. Their families have also vowed to guide them onto the right path from now on," she said.
Failure to pay the fine will result in a six-month jail term.
It was previously reported that police raided a gathering at a bungalow on Jalan Kemumin, believed to have been attended by nearly 100 men.
The raid, conducted based on intelligence and public information, led to the arrest of 20 men and the seizure of hundreds of condoms and HIV medication.

'Live or die' message was about me, says Zayn Rayyan's mother
PETALING JAYA: Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin's mother has told the Sessions Court that a WhatsApp message saying " lantaklah nak hidup ke nak mati " (live or die, it doesn't matter) was directed at herself and not her six-year-old son. Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, said the message was sent to her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, in a moment of panic and emotional distress while searching for their missing child at Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, on Dec 5, 2023. "The content of hashtag eight (referring to the WhatsApp conversation) was not aimed at my son. On that day, I was anxious, frantic and distraught while searching for my missing child and desperately needed my husband's attention. "I sent those words, urging him to come home quickly and help me. It was about me," she said in response to a supplementary question by her counsel, Haresh Mahadevan, on the fourth day of the defence trial in the child neglect case involving the deceased. On April 7, prosecution witness ASP Mohd Zaidi Abu Hassan, a cybercrime analyst with the Police forensic lab, testified that several WhatsApp messages were retrieved from the mobile phones of two individuals linked to Zayn Rayyan. Mohd Zaidi testified that an iPhone registered under Ismanira Abdul Manaf and a Huawei phone linked to a Google account in Zaim Ikhwan Zahari's name were seized during the investigation. He said a WhatsApp message containing the phrase " lantaklah nak hidup ke nak mati " was found and timestamped around noon on Dec 5, 2023. Meanwhile, Ismanira's close friend, Umi Syafiqah Rohizal, 30, testified that she had never seen the accused leave her two children, Zayn Rayyan and his younger brother, unsupervised at the playground or around their apartment complex. The fourth defence witness said she had often seen Ismanira holding the boys' hands while walking from Block R to the motorcycle parking area between Blocks R and S. Umi Syafiqah, who lived at the apartment from 2019 to 2024, added that she had never witnessed the couple harming, abusing, or neglecting their children. Umi, who has known Ismanira since primary school, described her as gentle and loving. "I have been close friends with her since Standard Three, over 21 years. After primary school, I continued my studies in Perak before returning to live in Damansara Damai," said Umi. She added that they reconnected via social media in 2018, and Ismanira was a bridesmaid at her wedding. On Monday, Judge Syahliza Warnoh ordered Ismanira, 30, to enter her defence after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against her, while acquitting and discharging her husband. The couple was accused of neglecting their autistic son, Zayn Rayyan, in a manner likely to cause physical injury between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55 pm on Dec 6, 2023, in the vicinity of Block R, Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai, extending to a nearby river. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction. Mara: Fatal convoy organised among students, not by us
PETALING JAYA: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) says it did not organise any convoy involving its students that led to a fatal accident on Wednesday (July 23). 'Based on initial investigations, the convoy was an informal initiative casually organised by the students through a WhatsApp group discussion without any official involvement from the institution or Mara,' it said. "As an immediate measure, Mara has provided a death benefit of RM1,500 to the family of each deceased student. Additionally, accident and death insurance claims amounting to up to RM38,000 for each student are being processed, subject to the conditions set by the insurance provider,' it said. 'At the same time, Mara will continue to work closely with the involved educational institutions and relevant agencies to ensure follow-up actions are taken responsibly, transparently, and humanely,' it said. It issued the statement on Thursday (July 24) following the accident involving 15 students from Kolej Poly-Tech Mara (KPTM) Bangi and one student from the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) Kajang. In the accident at KM262 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS), three KPTM students were killed while nine other students were reported injured and three students were unharmed. A student from GMI sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital, Seremban, Negri Sembilan. On the three students who were killed, Mara said that they are Haris Azib Sulaiman, Afkar Fitri Affendi and Aliff Syahmi Abdul Hakim, 'Haris's body was taken to Masjid Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang for burial. The body of the late Afkar Fitri was sent to Masjid Melaka Pindah, Melaka while the body of the late Aliff was returned to the family home in Gombak, Selangor,' it added. It said that the accident took place on Wednesday after the students gathered at petrol station in Bangi at around 11.30pm and travelled as a convoy to Uncle Red Restaurant, Seremban. 'It is understood that other students travelled from different locations such as Bangi Gateway and Seremban, to the same meeting destination. The meeting reportedly took place at the restaurant until 2.00 a.m. before the students began their return journey towards Bangi and Kuala Lumpur,' said Mara. It added that the accident is believed to have occurred during the return journey and added that there are two scenarios based on the testimony obtained. 'The first involves a group of students who reportedly collided with each other after one of the motorcycles allegedly lost control, resulting in a fatal accident,' said Mara. It then said that the police have obtained closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage related to this incident, but it cannot be disclosed to the public as investigations were still ongoing. 'The second occurred shortly after, involving a lorry and a car that stopped on the same lane following the first accident. The student involved in the second accident was believed to have attempted to overtake the heavy vehicle but failed to notice a car stopped in front of the lorry, resulting in a collision,' it added. 'Mara expresses deep sorrow over this tragedy and extends condolences to the families of the victims. We are fully committed to ensuring the welfare and needs of all involved students are given due attention, including emotional and psychosocial support for the families and fellow students,' it then said.

'Durian' discipline on daughter goes too far: Man jailed five years, wife fined RM18,000
KUALA LUMPUR: A man was sentenced to five years' imprisonment, while his wife was fined RM18,000 by the Sessions Court here today after both pleaded guilty to abusing their daughter with a durian husk last week. Judge Mohd Zaki Mohd Salleh ordered Bunyamin Sukiman, 42, to serve his sentence from the date of arrest on July 18, while his wife, Yorlini Abdullah Umar, 32, will face three months' imprisonment if she fails to pay the fine. The court also ordered both accused to be placed on a three-year good behaviour bond without surety and to perform 12 months of community service. According to the charge, Yorlini, the biological mother of the victim, and Bunyamin, the child's stepfather, were accused of abusing the girl, aged seven years and 11 months, causing injuries to her body at a residence in Jalan Ampang here around 6 pm on July 16. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction. According to the facts of the case, the senior assistant for Student Affairs at the victim's school had called her in over an allegation that she had cut another student's headscarf. The girl was found to be innocent, but during the investigation, she disclosed that she had been beaten, had her ear twisted by both her mother and stepfather, and punched by the man. She further revealed that they had placed her hand on the floor and slammed a durian husk on it, causing injury. The wounded hand was then soaked in warm salted water, and tied with adhesive tape and left overnight. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Ravindejit Kaur urged the court to impose a severe sentence, stressing that the victim, a minor, was entitled to protection, not violence. "The act of pressing a durian husk onto the child's hand and subsequently soaking it in salt water is an act of extreme cruelty. Parents are meant to protect their children, not unleash their anger upon them,' she submitted. In mitigation, the couple's lawyer, Simret Singh, pleaded for a lenient sentence, stating that Yorlini was unemployed and financially dependent on Bunyamin, who works as a vehicle sales advisor and is the family's sole breadwinner. "The couple has two children, including the victim. They were remanded for seven days and cooperated fully with the authorities. During their detention, both expressed remorse and pledged not to repeat the offence,' said the lawyer.- Bernama
