Brutal gangland executions in Spain discussed by Daily Record crime team
Criminal Record: The Lyons and Daniels gangland feud explained after hoods shot dead in Spanish bar
The team at Criminal Record met today to discuss the brutal gangland killings after Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr were gunned down in Spain.
The two senior Lyons clan members were executed by a gunman at Monaghan's Bar in the Costa Del Sol on Saturday night.
The key lieutenants were assassinated outside Monaghan's bar in Fuengirola amid a violent turf war raging across Scotland since March.
In a brand new podcast, which has been launched by the Record this week, crime reporter Norman Silvester spoke about the killings that shocked the country.
Silvester spoke in detail about what happened on the night as we discussed chilling CCTV footage which showed the gunman inside Monaghan's bar as the pair were assassinated.
The crime specialist then discussed at length the history of the Lyons gang and their bloody feud with the Daniels clan - which dates back more than 20 years.
As Silvester explains, it is claimed the feud between the two crime families first began over control of drugs turf.
In 2001 a large stash of Daniels' cocaine was stolen from a house in the Milton area of Glasgow and sold on to the Lyons.
The rivalry between the two crime family networks has seen shootings, stabbings, hit and runs, firebomb attacks, police corruption and drug trafficking busts.
We also discussed the possibility that the shootings could be linked to Scotland's ongoing gangland war which broke out earlier this year.
Silvester spoke about how the underworld feud first erupted after Edinburgh kingpin Mark Richardson's cronies stole a £500,000 stash of cocaine from a Dubai-based "Mr Big" known as Ross McGill, using fake cash.
The Lyons gang were thought to be supporting Dubai-based McGill who waged a war on Mark Richardson - and associates the Daniels family.
Finally, we discussed the likelihood of the notorious Lyons crime seeking a bloody revenge - and what this might involve.

Moment heartless vandal smashes up charity van in late-night attack
Hope Chest Community Project has been forced to pay out of their own funds to hire a replacement van to deal with a stream of referrals coming in. This is the shocking moment a van belonging to a charity was smashed up by a brazen vandal in the middle of the night. The van, belonging to Hope Chest Community Project, was left undriveable after the thug smashed a window of the vehicle that was parked outside Wellesley Parish Church in Methil, Fife. Two people were captured on CCTV at around 1.40am on Monday, August 11, with one spotted delivering the blow that shattered the driver's-side window, in full view of cameras. The charity relies on the van to transport furniture and household goods to people in need, and has been inundated with referrals, with around 100 so far this year. With it off the road until at least the end of this week, they have been forced to cancel or delay referrals. They have also faced additional costs, including a £450 insurance excess and paying out of their own funds to get a temporary replacement van. Assistant manager Freda McIntosh, 52, told the Record: "The number of referrals we get is unbelievable. We had to pay to hire a van to do an emergency pickup, as a lady had passed away. We had been asked to empty her house and it needed to be done urgently." The vandal left the windows shattered and the interior damaged. Pictures shared on social media show the aftermath, with pieces of glass and plastic covering the seats and floor, and even pieces of panelling from under the steering wheel seemingly missing. Freda added: "We're completely staffed by volunteers, and they've all been left so deflated that someone from our community could do this. "However, local people have rallied round asking if they can help us, which has really boosted spirits, and we're very grateful for their support." The charity also claimed their insurance company bizarrely offered them a Vauxhall Corsa as an alternative vehicle. Sadly, this is not the first time the charity has fallen victim to vandalism. Just last Christmas, the windows of a new centre built at the church to accommodate them were smashed. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In an unrelated incident just four weeks earlier, a Glasgow-based poverty and homelessness charity had its van similarly attacked in an incident they believe was targeted. The vehicle belonging to The Halliday Foundation had its windows and wing mirrors smashed while parked in the city's Dennistoun area on July 16. The moment was also picked up on CCTV, showing a man riding a bike taking a hammer to the glass. The charity faced similar delays in being able to deliver essential items to vulnerable people.

Two named in court over ‘murder bid' at ‘firebombed' taxi firm linked to gang war probe
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TWO men have appeared in court accused of kill bids after an alleged turf war attack on a taxi firm. Sonny Dovesi, 25, and Ray Dudgeon, 26, made no pleas when they stood in the dock yesterday at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. 2 Cops stand guard outside Capital Cars after Monday morning's incident. 2 Fire damage could be seen at the entrance to Capital Cars in Edinburgh's Gorgie Road. Both men are facing allegations of attempted murder and wilful fire-raising in connection with an alleged incident at Capital Cars in the city on Monday. Dovesi, of Edinburgh, is also accused of two raid traffic offences and one under misuse of drugs legislation. He and co-accused Dudgeon, of Stirling, were arrested after cops were called to the Gorgie Road premises run by private hire firm boss Stephen Rose. Both were committed for further examination and remanded in custody with another court appearance due next week. We told how the alarm was raised at around 3.30am amid reports of a fire at the unit. It came just hours after police were separately alerted to a disturbance at Mr Rose's mansion in nearby Crammond. Pictures later showed the damaged door-frame at his taxi business but cops said "significant damage" was avoided. In unrelated incidents the car garage was allegedly previously targeted after cars were damaged in May on the same day as an attack on a home linked to Dale Richardson - brother of caged Edinburgh cocaine boss Mark Richardson, 38. Hoods linked to Dubai-based mobster Ross 'Miami' McGill, 31, have been going after allies of Richardson and Glasgow's Daniel crime who set up Operation Portaledge to investigate the chaos have now arrested 57 suspects. Mr Rose, 47, denied links to gangland activity. He said: "I just want to leave it to police. They can work out who is responsible." The Lyons v Daniels - Inside Scotland's deadliest crime families at war for decades Police Scotland said of the incident at his home: "A search of the area was carried out. No person was found and enquiries are ongoing."
