Egyptian singer-actor Tamer Hosny and actress Hana El Zahed are reuniting on screen for their latest romantic comedy 'Restart', which is set to premiere in cinemas across Egypt on May 29th, 2025. The film, originally scheduled for release during Eid al-Adha, was pushed back to allow additional time for post-production.
Directed by Sarah Wafik and written by lyricist and screenwriter Ayman Bahgat Kamar, 'Restart' marks the third collaboration between Hosny and El Zahed following the box office hit 'Behabek' (2022) and the earlier television series 'Farq Tawqit' (2014). The film is produced by TH Production, Hosny's own production company.
'Restart' follows the story of Mohamed, a phone repair technician, and Afaf, an aspiring social media influencer, as they join forces in an attempt to achieve viral fame. Their chaotic journey is amplified by the involvement of their equally unconventional families and a flamboyant talent agent known as 'the Joker.' What begins as a comedic pursuit of internet stardom soon turns into a deeper exploration of personal values, relationships, and the meaning of success in a digital age.
The ensemble cast also features Bassem Samra, Mohamed Tharwat, Essam El Sakka, and emerging actor Said Osama. As with many of Hosny's past projects, the film includes original music composed and performed by the star himself. A new duet with Hana El Zahed is expected to be released in parallel with the film's launch.
This is Hosny's fourth cinematic collaboration with director Sarah Wafik, following their previous work on 'Tag' (2024), 'Mesh Ana' (2021), and 'Omar & Salma 3' (2012). Wafik's continued directorial partnership with Hosny has been a defining element of his recent film career, often blending romantic plotlines with comedic and musical elements.
