Most popular 100 baby names in UK revealed as beloved girl's name takes huge nosedive

The annual list of the most popular baby names in the UK has been released - and it shows a surprise shift in what parents are calling their children compared to recent years The annual list of the most popular baby names in England and Wales has just been released - and this year's results show some big shifts in what UK parents are calling their little ones. ‌ The official data has been by released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and reflects naming trends from babies born in 2024, the most recent full year of birth registrations. ‌ Each year, the official stats include the top 100 baby names for boys and girls - and while some names have remained firm favourites, a few newcomers have made impressive leaps into the rankings. It comes as Victorian-era baby names are also making a huge comeback, with parents ditching trendy monikers in favour of traditional titles. ‌ Muhammad continues to dominate as the most popular name for baby boys. It's the second year running that Muhammad topped the list after overtaking Noah, having been in the top 10 since 2016. In a surprise twist, Isla has dropped out of the top three after being replaced by Lily. Olivia and Amelia and held the top two spots for baby girl names for the third year in a row. ‌ Huge shifts in top 100 list Olivia and Amelia and have held the top two spots for baby girl names for the third year in a row, but Isla dropped out of the top three after being replaced by Lily. Royal names have continued to fall in popularity on the whole. George ranked sixth with 3,257 babies being given the name and William came in 27th. Louis came in 47th for boys and Charlotte ranked 23rd for girls. Names given to baby boys less than five times in 2024 include Cuthbert, Crispin, Awesome and Beckham. ‌ And monikers given to baby girls less than five times include Orchid, Poem, Sicily and Everest. The rankings were created using the exact spellings of names given at birth registration, meaning similar names with different spellings were counted separately. Last year's winners In the 2024 report (based on 2023 births), Muhammad took the top spot for boys, overtaking Noah, which had held first place for two years running. Oliver remained a solid third. Muhammad had gradually climbed the list over the past decade - it was ranked just 20th in 2012, before entering the top 10 in 2016. ‌ For girls, there were no changes to the reigning top three: Olivia, Amelia, and Isla led the way. Olivia in particular has proven continuously popular, holding the top spot for an impressive eight years straight. New names on the rise Lily continues to rise in the ranks, moving from fourth to third place and knocking Isla off from the top three favourites. ‌ In 2023, new arrivals in the top 100 included Hazel, Lilah, Autumn, Nevaeh, and Raya. Hazel entered at 91st, Lilah at 95th, and Autumn peaked at 96th - perhaps boosted by seasonal popularity. For boys, Jax, Enzo, and Bodhi were the standout additions. Jax made a bold debut at 87th, Enzo landed at 95th, and Bodhi snuck into 100th place. Overall, more creative and unique names - especially for girls - continued to trend, with boys' names showing more consistency. ‌ Seasonal inspiration remained popular, with names like Summer, Autumn, Holly, Joseph, and Robyn being more frequently chosen in months that matched their meanings. Meanwhile, pop culture continues to play a role: celebrity baby names like Reign, Saint, and even Stormi saw interest, as did nods to stars like Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, and Margot Robbie. Notably, royal names appeared to decline in popularity, perhaps indicating a generational shift in who inspires modern parents.

I broke up with my man for 2 months & he got another woman pregnant – but I'm thrilled to be a step-mum

A WOMAN has shared how she broke up with her man for two months, and he got another woman pregnant, so she is now going to be a step mum. Desiree Allen, who posts under @desallen98, uploaded a clip revealing their family's unusual set up, but insists her 'heart is full.' 2 In a video which has racked up over seven million views, the 27-year-old shared how the situation happened. She wrote: 'POV: I broke up with my man for 2 months and he went on a side quest to become a dad so now I get to help him raise a sweet baby girl.' Desiree shared the 'surprise' news in a video filmed at her partner's gender reveal with the other woman. The clip showed the former couple standing together in front of friends and family as they popped a streamer of pink tape, indicating they were having a daughter. Desiree, who already has three children aged nine, five, and four, added: 'No, I'm not the one expecting, but my heart is already full for this baby.' The understanding woman also insisted that she has come to a place of acceptance over the news, saying: 'God has a plan for everything!' Many people were shocked at the tale, and rushed to the comments to give their opinion. The majority of the viewers seemed amazed at how accepting Desiree had been about the situation. One said: 'You don't have to be this forgiving and accepting FYI.' Another added: 'He couldn't have come back to me after that side quest.' Love Island Shaughna Phillips reveals unborn baby's gender in emotional video with jailbird boyfriend out on day release And a third commented: 'May this love never find me.' Others compared the situation to the Handmaid's Tale, where babies born to 'Handmaids' are immediately given away to rich families, to have as their own. However, some people shared support for the pregnant woman involved with the drama. One wrote: 'I'm so devastated for the other girl involved. 'She has to birth the baby and then share it with whatever your situation is…' One agreed: 'My heart hurts for the pregnant mama.' Here's why I love being a young mum Tracy Kiss, who fell pregnant at 19, has revealed what she believes are the pros of being a young mother. The personal trainer and blogger, from Buckinghamshire, believes women who give birth in their teens make BETTER mothers than those in their 30s. She claims young mums snap back into shape quicker, have more energy and relate more easily to their children, meaning they're better behaved and happier. Tracy told Fabulous: "Women who become first-time mums in their teens make better parents than those in their 30s or 40s. "I believe if I'd been 10 or so years older before becoming a mother then I wouldn't have the relationship I have with my children now. "For a start, being older I would have had less energy and therefore less patience. "I wouldn't be as enthusiastic to speak to people after months of sleepless nights as I was in my teens. "My body snapped back to its pre-pregnancy size through fitness post-birth, which in turn gave me the confidence to date and find love again. I've never been happier than I am now at the age of 30 with two children. "If I'd have been alone at 40 with a newborn baby I'd be more tired, less happy with my body, less energetic and far more stressed from the shock of living my life for myself instead of putting others first. Sometimes age and the innocence of ignorance is a good thing. "As a teen mum I just got on with it, found my feet and became responsible and capable because at the time I didn't know any different."

Fired WWE star makes 'scary' admission 5 months after being released

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Leaving WWE can be a terrifying prospect for any wrestler, and Isla Dawn is trying to 'live in the moment'. The 31-year-old Scottish star was signed by the sports entertainment giant in 2018 and captured the NXT and WWE Women's Tag Team Titles during her seven years with the company. In February, it was revealed Isla had been released by WWE with her 90 day notice finishing in May, and she exclusively told Metro about her approach now she's a free agent. 'I want to just wrestle and travel and do all the things and whatever door opens, I will be straight through,' she said days before making her Burning Heart Pro Wrestling debut in Manchester against Aleah James on August 3. She added: 'It's scary and exciting, because I'm kind of like, 'Oh, I don't know I'm doing with my life!' But then there's also all these opportunities to do things.' The White Witch didn't rule out a move to AEW or TNA Wrestling, she also has her sights set on Australia and a return to Japan. She explained: 'I want to have all these little things that I want to do and look back on and go, 'Oh, yeah, I've done this cool thing, and I've done that cool thing' rather than being so rigid.' Isla has managed to stay positive, and even turned the day she got the call about her release into a 'great weekend in Nashville' with Irish star Lyra Valkyria after arriving a couple of nights before Raw. It wasn't a shock. But I don't really remember much of the phone call other than me just being very polite,' she laughed. ''Hey, it's okay, no no, you're fine.' I was almost apologising, 'No, no, don't you worry, you're good!'' Since her exit, she's had support from the likes of Bayley and former United States Champion Chelsea Green, and she admitted as much as she loves wrestling, it's 'the people that make it'. That's been true the entire time, going back to her first ever WWE appearance the week of her tryout, when she faced Asuka on Monday Night Raw in 2017. 'I was just there in makeup, terrified of being on WWE and I remember Bayley and Mercedes [Mone, AKA Sasha Banks] just coming over and being the nicest people alive and helping me,' she recalled. 'Before I went into Gorilla to have the match, I remember the two of them coming up and being like, 'Oh, you're gonna kill it. You look amazing'. Just actively building me up to make me feel good.' Isla was signed the following year, and rose up the ranks through NXT UK and NXT, where she worked under Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels – and while she has fond memories of the Heartbreak Kid, her mum might not agree. 'My mum is terrified of Ouija boards, hates them. And I remember Shawn being like, 'Oh, we're gonna get you Ouija boards'. And me being like, 'Oh, that is really cool, Shawn, but my mum's gonna kill me, oh noooo,'' she said. She can remember telling her mum about the idea, and her mum insisting she'd 'just have to tell Shawn Michaels no', which wasn't going to happen. The highlight of Isla's time in WWE came last summer, when she and fellow Scottish star Alba Fyre – known as the Unholy Union – won the Women's Tag Team Titles in Scotland with their family watching. WWE Hall of Famer Molly Holly was the one who told her they'd be winning gold, but Isla tried not to get carried away with the idea in case plans changed. 'It was nice to have that with her, because she's Molly Holly! She was also excited for us,' she smiled. 'It was very cool.' Clash At The Castle itself feels 'like a blur now', and Isla admitted she can't remember much beyond the 'surreal' ending with 'all of Scotland' cheering them on. 'One thing I do remember, and I'll hold it against him for the rest of his life, is my nephew, who was three at the time,' she chuckled. 'I was making my entrance and standing in the corner and looking at my family, and he was on his iPad!' Looking to the future, Isla is happy to take things as they come – but she's keen to build on what she's done so far. More Trending 'I'm never going to do a full 180 and be like this new person. What I've done my entire career has always been an extension of me,' she pointed out. 'I'm a different person, I'm an older person. So it's just a newer version of me, which is Isla Dawn, and Isla Dawn is me, and we are one.' View More » Isla Dawn has been announced for Burning Heart Pro Wrestling.
