Original Baazigar script had Kajol's character kill Shah Rukh Khan, reveal Abbas-Mustan: ‘He was an out-and-out negative character'
Admitting that Baazigar's concept was new for that era, Abbas-Mustan shared that although the world saw Shah Rukh's character as a negative one, they viewed him as the hero. Mustan Burmawalla said, 'It was a new concept at that time. We thought of Shah Rukh's character as a hero; he was negative, but he was our hero, and also, you have to understand why he did what he did in the film. For instance, if some character is doing something negative, but in the background he has some good qualities or there is a reason for him to turn negative, then if his character turns negative, that is also okay.'
He also revealed that the first draft of the film was entirely different, in which the female lead would eventually kill Shah Rukh's character. He said, 'In the first draft of the film, the hero was an out-and-out negative character who saw a tough childhood as his father would be a drunk, and he would beat his mother, and the kid would grow up wishing that he would become rich one day. After growing up, the character decides to get into a relationship with both daughters of a millionaire and eventually kill one of the daughters to take over the millionaire's empire. Later, the second girl gets to know about the character's intention and kills him. This was the first draft of the film.'
Later, he admitted that they were inspired by movies of filmmakers like Manmohan Desai and Prakash Mehra and realised that the film wouldn't work without emotions. That's when they decided to give a strong backstory to Shah Rukh's character, which explored his emotional past with his mother, his father's death and his little sister. He said, 'We realised that the film would not work without emotions, and the biggest emotion is the mother and father's.' Mustan shared that he informed the producer about the change in the storyline to incorporate an emotional arc and took time from him to work on the film's new version. 'Screenplay was the most important aspect of Baazigar.'
Baazigar follows the story of Shah Rukh Khan's character, Ajay Sharma, who seeks revenge against business tycoon Madan Chopra for destroying his family. As part of his plan, he seduces Chopra's daughters, murders one, and, after falling for the other, dies in a violent confrontation.

Tahir Raj Bhasin shared that he aspires to bring a similar blend of charm and disruption to today's cinema like Shah Rukh Khan who redefined stardom in the 1990s. Tahir Raj Bhasin is gaining a lot of recognition for his role as an antagonist in Special Ops 2.0. In his latest interview, Tahir opened up about how he manifests his career to turn out. He shared that he aspires to bring a similar blend of charm and disruption to today's cinema like Shah Rukh Khan who redefined stardom in the 1990s. Tahir discussed the dynamic environment of Indian cinema and the influences that continue to shape his journey. In conversation with Hindustan Times, Tahir Raj Bhasin said, '90s SRK was disruptive. It was the villain in Baazigar and the charmer that we saw in DDLJ. SRK today is an icon, but what he was doing in the 90s, were all the kind of heroes like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, who were flawed and had an element of charm to them. And so comes the idea to me that I would lend my skill to stories that are disruptive and drive them as entertainingly as possible." Moving on, Tahir described Bollywood as a 'living organism" while reflecting on the current state of the Hindi film business, particularly in relation to the thriving South film Industry. He mentioned that Bollywood evolves and has to change and adapt to the audience. On the professional front, Tahir has wrapped a mystery thriller for Netflix with Parineeti Chopra, directed by Renzil D'Silva and produced by Siddharth P. Malhotra. Though the actor did not divulge much about the role, he noted that it is a new genre for him. Tahir played the role of Collector, the antagonist in Neeraj Pandey's Special Ops 2, alongside Kay Kay Menon. Special Ops 2 follows Himmat Singh and his team of secret spies. This time, they're fighting an AI threat rather than terrorists. Tahir's character kidnaps India's renowned scientist, who has access to all key sites and knowledge about the country. The Collector's motive for the kidnapping was to gain control of India. First Published: July 28, 2025, 12:41 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Meet Shah Rukh Khan's heroine, who faced rejections for being 'too good-looking', now runs her own brand worth Rs 1000000000 crore, name is..., net worth is Rs... Becoming successful in the industry is not a piece of cake. One has to go through a lot of highs and lows to prove themselves in the competitive entertainment world. One such example is this actress, an outsider, who didn't have an easy start, considering she faced bizarre criticism in her struggling phase. Today, she has become one of the most prominent actresses with a successful skincare brand of her own. The outsider in Bollywood who shattered all odds is Kriti Sanon. The actor, who turned 33 on Sunday, was born and brought up in Delhi and relocated to Mumbai to try her luck in films. She once spoke about her lowest-phase, how she faced a lot of challenges in the aspiring actor phase. HT Digital quoted her, 'There were days when I was annoyed and irritated. On some days, I used to cry, because there was nothing to keep me busy. There were also times when I met a few people who told me that something was not right about me — someone told me, 'You're too good-looking. There has to be some sort of imperfection in you to look real on screen.' I think I did feel low, but at the same time, I did have people who believed in me a lot. That's what you need. I think that gave me a little more confidence.' Kriti Sanon made her Bollywood debut with Tiger Shroff in Heropanti (2014), and went on to star in Rohit Shetty's Dilwale , alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Varun Dhawan. Over the years, she starred in multiple box office hits such as Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi, and Housefull 4. In 2021, she earned the prestigious National Film Award for her incredible performance in Mimi. Last year, she shone in her OTT debut Do Patti, starring alongside Kajol and Shaheer Sheikh. Kriti's nuanced portrayal of a character with grey shades earned her critical acclaim. Apart from films, Kriti also ventured into entrepreneurial world. The National-Award winning actress launched her own skin-care brand, Hyphen, in 2023. Being a 'skin care nerd,' she co-founded the beauty brand with PEP Technologies, the company known for famous brand mCaffeine. According to Forbes, Hyphen generated Rs 100 crore revenue in its initial first years, becoming a tough competition to other celebrity brands' like Katrina Kaif's Kay Beauty, Mira Rajput's Akind and others. According to multiple reports, Kriti Sanon purchased a 2,000 sq ft plot in Alibaug last year, as a smart investment in real-estate. She resides in a lavish apartment in Sandhu Palace, located in Mumbai's posh area, Bandra. She reportedly pay monthly rent of Rs 17 lakh, which nearly cost her Rs 2 crore annually.
