Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz declines being added to Pro Bowl

Yahoo27-01-2025

The Belly isn't going to Orlando, of his own choice.
Quinn Meinerz, the Denver Broncos' first-alternate guard, was set to be added to the AFC's Pro Bowl roster this week as a replacement player, but he "respectfully declined," according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. This will presumably still count as a Pro Bowl nod on Mienerz's resume even though he is not set to participate in the all-star festivities.
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, so guards Joe Thuney and Trey Smith have dropped out of the all-star game to focus on preparing for Super Bowl LIX. Meinerz was first in line to be added to the Pro Bowl as a first-alternate guard, but he turned it down.
Meinerz (6-3, 320 pounds) received the third-best grade (87.8) among guards from Pro Football Focus in 2024. He was also named a first-team All-Pro.

Meinerz would have joined cornerback Pat Surtain, pass rusher Nik Bonitto and returner Marvin Mims as Denver's four representatives at the Pro Bowl. The AFC squad will be coached by Peyton Manning in skills competitions on Thursday, Jan. 30 and a flag football game on Sunday, Feb. 2.
The skills competitions will be televised on ESPN and the flag football game will be televised on both ESPN and ABC.

ESPN has ‘hopeful' LeBron James, Stephen Curry wish

The post ESPN has 'hopeful' LeBron James, Stephen Curry wish appeared first on ClutchPoints. Two of the top NBA stars, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, may be wrapping up their playing careers soon, and ESPN is hoping to snag them for top roles after they retire. Advertisement While appearing on The Main Event with Andrew Marchand podcast (via Awful Announcing), ESPN's lead NBA producer Tim Corrigan talked about some current players he would like to see in the broadcast booth. He seemed 'hopeful' James, Curry, and Chris Paul would eventually go down this path. 'We're hopeful,' said Corrigan. 'You talk about those two guys [James and Curry], besides their insane physical gifts and talents and all the work they've done, their basketball minds, we would all benefit from more exposure to that, right? And I would say somebody like Chris Paul, who did a little bit with us last year, coming in and jumping in the studio and doing all that, just to spend the time, to see how they see the game and feel the game and recognize, there's so many stories about LeBron knowing the call the other team's making and telling his guys on the court, 'Here's what they're going to do' based on who's coming on the court. 'We would all benefit from that in live events and things like that. To have the mind of people who think that way and see that way and have studied the game as intently as he has,' he continued. Will LeBron James and Stephen Curry become NBA broadcasters after they retire from the NBA? Nothing is certain, but James and Curry would both have opportunities if they wanted to get into broadcasting. James hosts the Mind the Game podcast. JJ Reddick and Steve Nash have co-hosted it with him. Advertisement He also seemed open to it, saying, 'I see Tom Brady doing it; he's been great so far. We will see, even if it's just a guest appearance, a game or two when I am done playing, but it's always fun to give back to the game.' Curry, meanwhile, recently discussed the chances of him getting into broadcasting after his playing career with CNBC. He conceded he would be 'more patient' than Fox commentator Tom Brady, who stepped into the booth a year after his retirement but didn't rule it out. 'I think about what would be the right opportunity for me, 'cause anything that I do, I want to be all in on it,' Curry explained. 'Right now, just doing your homework on the different pathways and options that might be available.' James, 40, and Curry, 37, are heading into their 23rd and 17th seasons in the NBA, respectively. They are entering the twilights of their careers, and they will have opportunities to stay involved with the game once they hang it up. WR Michael Wilson named Arizona Cardinals' 'under-the-radar start' for 2025

WR Michael Wilson named Arizona Cardinals' 'under-the-radar start' for 2025 CBS Sports names third-year receiver Michael Wilson as a guy who could be a quiet contributor in 2025. The Arizona Cardinals are nearing the end of their offseason program, and with this time of year it is when we try to find players who will step up, players who will improve and who will be a surprise. CBS Sports named a player from every NFC team considered a potential "under-the-radar star." Who is that player for the Cardinals? That would be third-year receiver Michael Wilson. Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride and 2024 fourth overall pick wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. get the spotlight with the Arizona Cardinals, but 2023 third-round pick wide receiver Michael Wilson could be on the verge of a breakout in 2025. He was third on the team in targets (71), catches (47) and receiving yards (548) in 2024, but quarterback Kyler Murray thinks Wilson has the ability to be a 1,000-yard receiver. "Mike [Wilson] is a 1,000-yard receiver. I truly believe Mike can have 1,000 yards and be very comparable to the guys we see doing it year in and year out," Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray said on April 9, via PHNX Cardinals podcast. "It's all about opportunities, staying healthy and the connection we have on the field, but ... he's got it. He can play receiver." Given that kind of belief from his quarterback, Wilson could make a huge leap in the coming season. In two NFL seasons, he has yet to crack 600 yards. Is he under the radar? Certainly. The radar is firmly picking up McBride and Harrison. McBride had a huge 2024 and Harrison is poised to leap forward as a star receiver. But is Wilson going to be an "under-the-radar star?" That is a little much. Could he be a candidate to have an under-the-radar impact? Yes. If McBride and Harrison are both 1,000-yard receivers and James Conner is a 1,000-yard running back again for the third consecutive season, then if Wilson passes 750 yards, he will have become a consistent third option in the passing game, and that would be awesome. Analysts Debate Buying Or Selling Chiefs Super Bowl Stock

Analysts Debate Buying Or Selling Chiefs Super Bowl Stock originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs have lost significant support following their Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, with some believing the era of dominance is over. Advertisement But some forget that Kansas City still won 15 regular-season games and claimed the AFC. That is nothing to sneeze at. Still, many are selling their Chiefs stock in 2025 in favor of the Buffalo Bills or Baltimore Ravens, two teams Patrick Mahomes and Co. have regularly beaten in the playoffs. But one person who isn't selling is NFL Network's Kyle Brandt, who thinks the Chiefs will come roaring back this season. "We look at the Chiefs now as all of a sudden their stock is dropped or something because they got slapped around in the Super Bowl," Brandt said. "That was an all-time Eagles team, and I don't take anything away from the Chiefs." Advertisement "I look at the Chiefs last year, I think it was the weakest team of the Mahomes era and the most vulnerable team, and they won 15 games and had a bye. That we've seen it was like that was the year to get them, that was the year to take them out. Next year, I think they'll be better than they were this year." Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15).Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images With what is hoped to be a better offensive line, a healthy Rashee Rice, having Marquise Brown for a full season, not to mention the continued improvement from Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce, who is coming off a down season, the Chiefs have ample room for improvement. Yes, the shine has come off their aura somewhat, but let's not forget that just one game of football ago, this team was seen as potentially one of the greatest of all time. Advertisement The analysts' debate aside ... That doesn't go away after one loss, does it? Kansas City will have to do something it hasn't had to do too often under Mahomes, and that's prove people wrong. For so long the NFL's dominant force, one poor loss has seemingly taken away all of the credits Kansas City had built up over the past three seasons. Let the redemption story begin.
