WR Michael Wilson named Arizona Cardinals' 'under-the-radar start' for 2025
WR Michael Wilson named Arizona Cardinals' 'under-the-radar start' for 2025 CBS Sports names third-year receiver Michael Wilson as a guy who could be a quiet contributor in 2025.
The Arizona Cardinals are nearing the end of their offseason program, and with this time of year it is when we try to find players who will step up, players who will improve and who will be a surprise.
CBS Sports named a player from every NFC team considered a potential "under-the-radar star."
Who is that player for the Cardinals?
That would be third-year receiver Michael Wilson.
Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride and 2024 fourth overall pick wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. get the spotlight with the Arizona Cardinals, but 2023 third-round pick wide receiver Michael Wilson could be on the verge of a breakout in 2025. He was third on the team in targets (71), catches (47) and receiving yards (548) in 2024, but quarterback Kyler Murray thinks Wilson has the ability to be a 1,000-yard receiver.
"Mike [Wilson] is a 1,000-yard receiver. I truly believe Mike can have 1,000 yards and be very comparable to the guys we see doing it year in and year out," Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray said on April 9, via PHNX Cardinals podcast. "It's all about opportunities, staying healthy and the connection we have on the field, but ... he's got it. He can play receiver."
Given that kind of belief from his quarterback, Wilson could make a huge leap in the coming season.
In two NFL seasons, he has yet to crack 600 yards.
Is he under the radar? Certainly. The radar is firmly picking up McBride and Harrison. McBride had a huge 2024 and Harrison is poised to leap forward as a star receiver.
But is Wilson going to be an "under-the-radar star?" That is a little much.
Could he be a candidate to have an under-the-radar impact? Yes.
If McBride and Harrison are both 1,000-yard receivers and James Conner is a 1,000-yard running back again for the third consecutive season, then if Wilson passes 750 yards, he will have become a consistent third option in the passing game, and that would be awesome.

Four Arizona Cardinals 2024 draft picks with uphill battle make the 53-man roster
Four Arizona Cardinals 2024 draft picks with uphill battle make the 53-man roster Because of new offseason additions, these 2024 draft picks will have a rough time to make the roster in 2025 for the Cardinals. The Arizona Cardinals have a new crop of young players in 2025 and also many notable free agent additions. As a result, it will be tough for some players to make the roster. Of their 2024 draft picks, at least four will have stuff battles for the roster this season. Who are the picks from last season who are far from guaranteed to make the team this year? 2024 Cardinals draft picks with jobs on the line CB Elijah Jones: Drafted in the third round last year, he spent all season on injured reserve. But with the Cardinals drafting another two cornerbacks, he has an uphill battle. Star Thomas, 2024 second-round pick Max Melton, Garrett Williams and 2025 second-round pick Will Johnson are all locks to make the roster. They drafted Denzel Burke in the fifth round. They still have Kei'Trel Clark. Jones, Burke and Clark are battling for what is perhaps one spot on the roster. OL Christian Jones: Jones started his rookie season on IR but got to start at the end of the season because of injuries to Paris Johnson and Jonah Williams. Both starters are back and Kelvin Beachum was re-signed. Will there be room on the roster for Jones? Plus, they signed Josh Fryar out of Ohio State as a rookie free agent, and he was coached by the Cardinals' new O-line coach Justin Frye. WR Tejhaun Palmer: Well, Palmer didn't even make the roster after being drafted in the sixth round. He spent all season on the practice squad. The receiver room is basically the same, so making the final roster has the same hurdles. CB Jaden Davis: Like Palmer, Davis didn't make the team last year and spent all season on the practice squad. He has even an even steeper uphill battle to make the roster than Elijah Jones. LB Zaven Collins named layer the Arizona Cardinals should trade
At this time of year, when we look at NFL rosters, some positions on some teams look like they have players who will need a change of scenery, for one reason or another. For example, the Arizona Cardinals completely retooled their defensive line and their edge defender rooms. That could leave a contributor from a previous season with a lesser role. Advertisement Sometimes, they don't fit as well. Other times, it is a case of a contract. Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport named a player on each roster who should be traded. For the Cardinals, it is outside linebacker Zaven Collins. Back in 2021, the Arizona Cardinals made edge-rusher Zaven Collins the 16th overall pick in the NFL draft. But Collins didn't actually start his professional career as an edge-rusher—the 6'5' 260-pounder spent the first two seasons of his career as an off-ball linebacker before kicking outside in 2023. The results have been disappointing. Collins has shown some flashes, but he just hasn't been able to generate consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Last year's five sacks marked a career high, but with Josh Sweat now in the desert, Baron Browning back after joining the Cardinals in-season last year and BJ Ojulari returning from injury, Collins could find himself toward the back end of the pass-rushing rotation in Arizona. Collins signed a two-year, $14 million extension last fall, so his salary is hardly cost-prohibitive. There could be a team out there that believes it can do a better job of unlocking Collins' talent than the Cardinals have. And a change of scenery could be the best thing for the 26-year-old. As noted, the Cardinals spent big money on Sweat. They gave Browning almost the same deal that Collins has and Ojulari is coming back. Plus, they drafted Jordan Burch in the third round. Will Collins still get playing time? Well, we have to remember that the coaches on Arizona's staff love Collins. And while some might be disappointed in his sack totals, he did lead the team with five last season. And getting sacks aren't his greatest skill. Advertisement However, he is a very good player at all the other things an edge rusher should do. He sets the edge and plays the run extremely well. He moves in coverage well. He can kick inside. He works hard. We can expect him to probably be the base-down starter with Sweat. Would a change of scenery work for him? Perhaps, but he is in the final year of his contract. That will likely happen next offseason. Trading him now without knowing what the other players will be like, especially when the team knows that, in a moment, the best laid plans can be ruined by injuries (Ojulari last season, followed by Dennis Gardeck's torn ACL in the season). The Cardinals might make trades before the season, but don't expect Collins to be one of those guys. Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray named an under-the-radar MVP candidate in 2025
Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray named an under-the-radar MVP candidate in 2025 Breaking down why Kyler Murray could be a quiet MVP candidate in 2025. We are both far enough from the season and close enough to discuss reasonable and perhaps unreasonable projections for the 2025 season. One such thing would be potential MVP candidates. Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon named five under-the-radar MVP candidates for the 2025 season. One is Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. We're creeping deeper into long-shot territory here, but there's no denying Kyler Murray's talent. The Arizona Cardinals also continue to improve on paper, so this could well be their breakout season. If that's the trajectory, and if Murray and centerpiece receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. can grow together as a battery in the latter's sophomore campaign, the signal-caller could sneak into the MVP picture. Murray has had an up-and-down career but is still just 27. If he stays healthy, don't be surprised if he finally becomes an elite quarterback for an exciting potential contender in 2025. This isn't a bad take. We have seen Murray play at an MVP level over stretches. When did he play his best football? It was the first half of the 2021 season when the offense was good and the defense was very good, which was surprising. The Cardinals had a solid offense last season and overhauled the defensive front seven this offseason. If that defense is even close to the level of the offense, then watch out for Murray to be great. And when Murray is great, the Cardinals win games. Now, the truth is that MVPs come from teams who win a lot of games. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was the MVP last season, leading the Bills to 13 wins. Cards Wire's Howard Balzer wrote that, before last season, the average number of wins for an MVP's team was 13 wins over the previous 20 years. If the Cardinals win 11 or more games, it means Murray is great. And if Murray is great, combined with those wins, he could be a real MVP candidate.
