A local Abercarn hero who risked his life has passed away
Tristram was a much-loved figure in the Abercarn community and a loving father who leaves behind two young daughters, Olivia and Grace Maggs 15 and 14.
He was better known by his nickname 'Tigger' which was given to him by his older sister Kristian Edwards when they were children.

On April 29, 2010, Lousie Whittaker lost control of her car whilst driving near Risca.
During the crash Lousie's car rolled down a banking and caught on fire.
Lousie was left trapped inside her car with no way to get out.

Luckily for Lousie Tigger arrived.
'He basically could see I was stuck and tried everything to get me out.
'I didn't think I was getting out and at first, I was like I don't want to die then I looked at him and said you're going to have to leave me and Tigger said 'we aren't leaving don't you dare give up'.'

She said: 'They managed to push the car up and someone pulled me out and carried me away. The car just started going up and the flames engulfed the car.
'I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him, and I just want his family to know what an amazing man he was.
'It's surreal because he saved my life and he's not here it doesn't seem fair.'

The GoFundMe reads: 'If you knew Tigger, you'd know that he was an amazing man.
'He would always have the biggest smile and warmest heart. He would give his last to anyone who needed it.'
A staggering £2,890 was raised for Tigger's funeral.
He will be deeply missed by the Abercarn community.

Her son, the eldest of her brood, was by chance shaded by a large bush in the ravine. Stephanie, who works in a prison, continued: "He ended up landing underneath some pretty thick brush, which helped shade him from the sun during the heat warning. "He was lying in five inches of water, which helped maintain his body temperature, and his body probably absorbed some of that water, even though he came in extremely dehydrated." He can speak, but speech patterns are delayed due to brain injuries, and he's experiencing short-term memory loss. "Even when he's done with inpatient, he's still going to have a lot of outpatient therapies with physical and occupational, but I believe at the end of that road, he can be mostly normal. We're just taking it day by day and hoping that he keeps making small progress in the right direction." LA schoolboy seized by ICE while walking his dog...then agents 'untied pet and let it run onto busy road'
A high school student who allegedly overstayed his visa was seized by masked immigration officers while walking his family dog in Los Angeles. Benjamin Guerrero-Cruz, 18, was walking through his Van Nuys neighborhood last week when he was taken into custody. The agents allegedly tied the dog to a tree and unclipped its collar, allowing it to run loose onto Sepulveda Boulevard, according to a GoFundMe seeking support for the family's legal fees. It is unclear what happened to the dog afterwards. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents also joked during his arrest that 'thanks to him, they get to drink this weekend', the crowdfunder alleges. Guerrero-Cruz's family says they were shocked when the teen failed to return home with their dog and initially struggled to obtain information about his whereabouts. They later learned he was being held at a detention center in the LA area in what his family described as unhygienic conditions. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed Guerrero-Cruz, originally from Chile, in in their custody 'pending removal'. DHS states the teen 'abused' the visa waiver program under which he entered the country. Officials claim Guerrero-Cruz was required to leave the US in March 2023 but 'overstayed his visa by more than two years'. Guerrero-Cruz was arrested on August 8, just days after he celebrated his 18th birthday. The teen was expected to start his senior year at Reseda Charter High School this month. But instead of resuming school with his peers and soccer teammates, he is being held in ICE custody until he is deported. His mother claims he is being kept in a 'cramped holding cell' with roughly 50 men who are much older than him, KTLA reports. He allegedly does not have access to 'basic hygiene, warmth, or adequate food'. 'He has only water, and since being detained, he has not had proper access to a bathroom, there are just two toilets for everyone to share. He is cold, scared, and one of the youngest there,' his loved ones allege. Guerrero-Cruz helps care of his 5-month-old twin brothers and his 6-year-old brother, according to the GoFundMe. Those who know him say he is a 'devoted son, caring brother, loyal friend, and a valued member of our community'. 'He is a good student, with a kind heart, who has always stepped up for his family,' the campaign adds. The family has secured legal counsel through the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, but Guerrero-Cruz's loved ones are still urging others to 'rally on his behalf'. A man fleeing from a raid at a Home Depot in Monrovia, a LA County city in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, was killed Thursday after he fled into a busy highway. The unidentified migrant had jumped a concrete wall shortly after the agents arrived at the scene, fled on foot, entered the freeway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Witnesses say he was still alive and 'still moving' shortly after being hit. Disturbing footage shared online showed a man standing in the road hitchhiking as the migrant could be seen lying on the ground motionless. Major police update after teen vanished on holiday and sent mum chilling text
Giovanni Pelletier, 18, was found dead in a Florida pond a week after he went missing, following a family vacation during which he allegedly smoked marijuana with cousins Police have issued a major update in the search for a missing teenage boy. Giovanni vanished on Friday, August 1 while visiting Florida with his mother, Bridgette Pelletier, her fiancé, and his four sibling Bridgette, 34, told People that she saw chilling text messages when she woke up at around 6:20am, which read "Mom help". A frantic search for Giovanni lasted several days with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office explaining in a statement how a multitude of agencies were involved in the search. Officers were assisted by live-scent and cadaver K9s, Aviation units and drones. At approximately 3:15pm local time on August 8, a family member was conducting a search when they saw what appeared to be a body partially submerged at the edge of the pond and notified police. Detectives believe the body had been in the pond for multiple days before floating to the surface. Due to the advanced state of decomposition further forensic testing was necessary to confirm the identity.. In an update yesterday police said: "The District 12 Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified the decomposed body recovered from a retention pond on August 8 as 18-year-old Giovanni Pelletier. Identification was confirmed through dental records, and additional forensic testing was required due to the condition of his body. "The cause of death remains undetermined pending toxicology results, which are expected to take several weeks. Detectives are actively pursuing multiple leads to learn more about the circumstances surrounding Pelletier's death. There are still no signs of foul play "This is an ongoing death investigation, and case updates will be released at the appropriate time." A post-mortem examination carried out by the District 12 Medical Examiner's Office showed no signs of foul play or trauma, the office stated. A GoFundMe page was set up by his family raise money for a reward and resources for the search. It has a target of $15,000 and has already reached $23,606 in donations. The initial message on the page read: "Giovanni is smart, kind, and full of life. He didn't deserve this. Our family is devastated, terrified, and doing everything in our power to bring him home."
