Giovanni Pelletier, 18, was found dead in a Florida pond a week after he went missing, following a family vacation during which he allegedly smoked marijuana with cousins
Police have issued a major update in the search for a missing teenage boy.

Giovanni vanished on Friday, August 1 while visiting Florida with his mother, Bridgette Pelletier, her fiancé, and his four sibling Bridgette, 34, told People that she saw chilling text messages when she woke up at around 6:20am, which read "Mom help".

A frantic search for Giovanni lasted several days with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office explaining in a statement how a multitude of agencies were involved in the search. Officers were assisted by live-scent and cadaver K9s, Aviation units and drones.

At approximately 3:15pm local time on August 8, a family member was conducting a search when they saw what appeared to be a body partially submerged at the edge of the pond and notified police. Detectives believe the body had been in the pond for multiple days before floating to the surface.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition further forensic testing was necessary to confirm the identity..
In an update yesterday police said: "The District 12 Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified the decomposed body recovered from a retention pond on August 8 as 18-year-old Giovanni Pelletier. Identification was confirmed through dental records, and additional forensic testing was required due to the condition of his body.

"The cause of death remains undetermined pending toxicology results, which are expected to take several weeks. Detectives are actively pursuing multiple leads to learn more about the circumstances surrounding Pelletier's death. There are still no signs of foul play
"This is an ongoing death investigation, and case updates will be released at the appropriate time."
A post-mortem examination carried out by the District 12 Medical Examiner's Office showed no signs of foul play or trauma, the office stated.
A GoFundMe page was set up by his family raise money for a reward and resources for the search. It has a target of $15,000 and has already reached $23,606 in donations. The initial message on the page read: "Giovanni is smart, kind, and full of life. He didn't deserve this. Our family is devastated, terrified, and doing everything in our power to bring him home."

Woman found dismembered in burning bag as girlfriend charged nearly 20 years later

Nicole Alston's dismembered remains were found in a burning bag on the side of a road 17 years ago - her girlfriend, Angel Marie Thompson, has now been charged with her murder A woman has been charged with murder 17 years after her girlfriend was found dismembered in a burning bag. ‌ Parts of Nicole Alston's, 24, remains were horrifically found on December 6, 2007, but her "hands, feet and head were missing". The shocking condition of Nicole's remains meant it took authorities 15 years to identify the tragic victim's body, according to Troup County Sheriff's Office. Angel Marie Thompson, the victim's girlfriend, was booked and charged with murder and identity theft in Georgia, United States, on August 12. ‌ Thompson had previously been arrested on August 19, 2024, and charged with concealing Nicole's death but cops at the time said the killer was yet to be determined. ‌ Nicole's remains were found when a bag was spotted burning on the side of a road. The Troup County Sheriff's Office said: "On the morning of December 6, 2007, deputies with the Troup County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the corner of Whitfield Road and Stitcher Road regarding a suspicious black bag that appeared to be burning. "When they arrived on scene they discovered what appeared to be human remains that had been dumped at the location and a bag was smouldering." Nicole's identity was confirmed after DNA was sent to two laboratories for testing in early 2023, according to People. In a previous post, the sheriffs office revealed Nicole left New York and moved to Atlanta to live with Thompson, who was described as a "friend" at the time. The police said: "At that time Thompson was wanted in New York for theft and identity fraud. The family last heard from Nicole around Thanksgiving of 2007." Police investigator Clay Bryant then claimed, in 2024, that Thompson was allegedly identifying as Nicole and started collecting her Social Security benefits, food stamps and housing for around eight years. Police added that the cost of this alleged fraud could have totalled to around £150,000 ($200,000). ‌ Thompson's arrest warrant has accused her of killing Nicole through "homicidal violence by undetermined means" and it stated the victims cause of death was "violence to [the victim's] throat or head". Police also suggested a motive behind the murder, claiming Thompson could have been enraged after Nicole supposedly said she wanted to move back to New York. The arrest warrant said: "The suspect may not have wanted to lose the financial support, so the victim was murdered and the suspect assumed her identity and continued to live as the victim." Investigator Bryant, in a press conference following the bombshell murder charge, said it took a "true sociopath" to kill someone in that way. Speaking of the victim's family, he said: "They deserve some finality. They deserve the truth, and we were just lucky enough to be able to find some facts that led us to the truth [about] what happened to Nicole." Nicole's mum, Sylvia Austin, in the conference said that she "never stopped looking" for her daughter, saying: "She didn't deserve this, and I wish I'd never let her come to Georgia." The mum added: "She was the life of the party. She was happy, and through all her trials and struggles, she always made everything seem okay. She was always the one people call on to talk to."

Mum whose father-in-law ‘tried to drown her in pool' pleads for his release

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A mum-of-two who was in a relationship with her father-in-law has bagged authorities to release him after he was arrested on suspicion of trying to drown him. Newly released court footage shows Jasmine Wyld, 33, pleading with prosecutors in the US to free Mark Gibbon who has been charged with attempted murder. Jasmine was previously engaged to his son Alex who she shared two children with, but the pair split in 2021. But while on holiday near Disney World, Gibbon allegedly tried to push Jasmine under the water after an argument is said to have broken out over a will. His nine-year-old granddaughter attempted to save her mum and jumped into the pool, but Gibbon pushed her away, police said. But from her home in Buckinghamshire, she insisted Gibbon was a 'good man' and 'adores his family'. She said: 'Obviously I've been through a lot, mentally, with what's going on and I'm still in a state of shock because I look upon Mark as a very trusting character, as a good man. 'He adores his family, nothing was ever too much trouble for him and I can't speak of the events that took place that day, I guess only Mark can. 'But all I can say is what a wonderful grandfather he was to the grandchildren and he was my best friend. I had complete trust in him.' It was revealed by the Daily Mail that Gibbon and Ms Wyld have been in a relationship for the last two years after both of their marriages broke down. Social services have since made contact with the family after the extent of their relationship was revealed. Jasmine told the court: 'Back here in England, what we call social services have contacted me and there will be involvement with the social services here in the UK. 'I don't know the rules as of yet as I've not met with the lady that's going to come round and talk to me. 'Obviously this case has hit England and it's been made public knowledge to pretty much the entire world. 'I can't speak on behalf of what the conditions will be like here back in England because the social services have their duties of care so unfortunately I can't speak solely on that. 'However, as I've said, I've never felt fearful of Mark prior to this or felt unsafe and he's been great with the grandchildren.' Two women are said to have told Gibbon they had called police which made him stop the attempted drowning, and he was taken into custody. A witness told officers she 'observed him push the victim under the water and hold her there multiple times' and watched as he 'scratched her on her chest', according to US website People. More Trending Detectives gave Ms Wyld's perspective of the pool incident in their arrest report: 'She advised that she could not breathe and believed that she was going to drown. '[The victim] advised that she had to fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under.' Judge Jalal Harb said: 'Quite frankly, her testimony is of great concern to this court. 'Her testimony to this court is not nearly consistent with what she reported to The Sheriff's Office. The testimony that was provided by her young daughter contradicts her testimony to this court.'
