The 2008 men's Olympic basketball team earned the moniker "Redeem Team" after an underperformance at the 2004 Athens Games with a bronze medal. The Krzyzewski-coached team bounced back to win the gold medal in 2008. The US won its first seven games by at least 20 points and defeated Spain 118-107 in the gold medal game.

It featured Kobe Bryant as a captain, but also featured LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard. Both Anthony and Howard were also inducted individually into the Hall of Fame.

The Redeem Team's celebrated run in Beijing marks a pivotal moment in U.S. men's Olympic basketball history and has propelled us to five straight gold medals," said USA Basketball CEO Jim Tooley.

Baltimore Ravens swim with Michael Phelps, get lessons from the Olympic champion
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens got their chance to swim with Michael Phelps. A couple of weeks after players shot video asking the 23-time Olympic champion — and Baltimore native — for swimming lessons, Phelps showed up at practice Tuesday. Then the team posted video of players swimming and diving — or at least leaping off diving boards — at nearby Loyola University. In one video posted by a reporter for the team's website, Phelps let everyone else have a significant head start before diving in and racing them. At least some of them did beat him to the end. Phelps also toured the smaller pools at the Ravens' facility, and he spoke to the team on the practice field along with former Ravens star Ray Lewis. 'I'm not going to say I'm a big swimming fan, but I know Michael Phelps,' defensive coordinator Zach Orr said. 'I think it was neat having him and Ray come talk to us, because the message was the same. That's one thing you notice when you listen to the greats. When you study the greats, you wonder, 'How do they do such great things in the highest tense moments?' And it all leads back to the work that nobody sees, and that's what Michael Phelps talked about. Ray talked about preparation. Michael Phelps talked about preparation as well.' ___ AP NFL:

WATCH: Ray Lewis, Michael Phelps delivery strong words of motivation to the Ravens
Olympic champion Michael Phelps and Super Bowl legend Ray Lewis addressed the Ravens and spoke to the team following Tuesday's practice The Ravens had champions in the building on Tuesday, as Michael Phelps and franchise legend Ray Lewis visited with the team at the Under Armour Performance Center. Phelps was initially invited to provide swim lessons to key Ravens, and following Tuesday's practice, both champions gave the team urgent words of wisdom. The two local heroes also signed autographs for fans after the team's practice. With 28 Olympic medals, including 23 golds, Phelps knows what it takes to become a champion. Lewis is the only player in NFL history with at least 40 career sacks and 30 career interceptions (41.5 sacks and 31 interceptions). In 17 seasons, Lewis made the all-decade team (2000s), made 12 Pro Bowls, and set a franchise record 2,643 career tackles, including a single-season team-best 225 stops in 2003.

Carlos Mendoza Makes Bold Frankie Montas Decision For Mets' Postseason Push
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Mets have been on quite a losing skid recently, and they desperately need to make a change. With starter Frankie Montas struggling tremendously this season, it quickly became clear that manager Carlos Mendoza couldn't continue to use him every fifth day. Montas has allowed four or more earned runs in four of his eight starts. Still, the Mets are 3-5 in games started by Montas. The righty's strikeout numbers aren't horrible, but his hits allowed are up, and he can't seem to keep the ball in the ballpark. As a result, Mendoza recently made the bold decision that the Mets were going to move the veteran pitcher to the bullpen, per Anthony DiComo of MLB. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - AUGUST 03: Frankie Montas #47 of the New York Mets looks on during the first inning against the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field on August 03, 2025 in the Queens borough of New York City. MoreMontas has thrown out of the bullpen before. He's done so once for the Mets this year already. Before that, he hadn't pitched out of the bullpen since he did so one time with the New York Yankees in 2023. In 2017, Montas was strictly used out of the bullpen by the then-Oakland Athletics. Now, the righty will transition back as the Mets opt to replace him with a better option in the starting rotation. It's clear this is the right move to make. Montas isn't helping the Mets win games as a starter, and they need to find somebody who can. Rather than cut him, New York is giving him an opportunity to transition to the bullpen down the stretch to help the team win games. It could work, but with how poorly he's thrown this year, there's a chance he's shelled out of the bullpen, too. More MLB: Phillies Predicted To Demote Young Pitcher When Jose Alvarado Returns
