Madhoo recalls filming ‘most horrible' kissing scene in 90s shot without prior discussion: ‘It didn't serve any purpose'
Actor Madhoo, who rose to fame with films like Phool Aur Kaante and Roja, recently opened up about why she avoided bold roles early in her career. In a candid interview with News18, Madhoo recalled an unpleasant experience involving a kissing scene that left her feeling uncomfortable and upset. Raised in a conservative environment, Madhoo shared that her upbringing didn't allow her to feel at ease with onscreen intimacy. She recounted turning down multiple projects because she didn't want to do explicit scenes. Reflecting on one specific incident, Madhoo revealed she was asked to perform a kissing scene without prior notice.
Without naming the film or the co-star involved, she said, 'It wasn't the kind of kiss that we see in films today. It was more like a peck on the lips, but that made me feel really bad. That I was required to kiss wasn't something that was conveyed to me before I began shooting. When I was told, they took me to the side and we had a conversation. They explained to me why it was important, and that's why I did it. But it was the most horrible and non-convincing thing I had to do.'
She further added, 'The kiss didn't even serve any purpose. I didn't even have a conversation with the director to not include that scene in the film. I let it pass. I was too young in every way, and not just by age. Today, 22-year-olds and 24-year-olds are so clever and exposed. At 22, I was very naïve.'
Madhoo will next be seen in the Telugu-language fantasy film Kannappa, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Mohan Babu. Based on the legend of Kannappa, a devotee of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology, the film stars Vishnu Manchu in the titular role. The cast also includes Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Kaushal Manda, Rahul Madhav, Devaraj, Mukesh Rishi, and Brahmanandam. The film will feature special appearances by Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, Kajal Aggarwal and Mohanlal. Kannappa is slated for release in theatres on June 27.

Thug Life box office collection day 10: Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam's film barely earns a crore on second Saturday, makes less than what Indian 2 did in two days
Mani Ratnam's crime thriller Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead, has slipped down to lakhs in its daily domestic earnings for the past two days. After earning barely Rs 75 lakh on its second Friday and ninth day at the box office, it could barely amass Rs 90 lakh on its second Saturday and 10th day at the box office. Prior to that, Thug Life at least hovered right above the Rs 1 crore mark through its opening week. After opening at Rs 15 crore across all languages on June 5, it dipped down to less than half on the second day when it earned only Rs 7.15 crore. Even the opening weekend couldn't help increase its earnings significantly. As per Sacnilk, the current box office collection of Thug Life in India stands at Rs 45.65 crore. The major chunk comes from the native Tamil version, followed by the dubbed Telugu and Hindi versions respectively. Even after 10 days, Thug Life is struggling to cross even the Rs 50 crore mark, which even Haasan's critically panned vigilante drama Indian 2 amassed in just its first two days last year. In the Hindi market, Thug Life is facing stiff competition from Tarun Mansukhani's ensemble whodunit comedy Housefull 5, headlined by Akshay Kumar, which has earned almost Rs 100 crore more than Thug Life in just nine days since its release on June 6. Also starring Simbu and Trisha, Thug Life reunites Haasan and Ratnam 38 years after their cult classic Nayakan. Thug Life could not be released in Karnataka after Haasan's comments about Kannada language sparked a major controversy. On Friday, the Supreme Court on Friday sought the Karnataka government's response on a plea seeking protection against alleged threats over the screening of Thug Life in Karnataka theatres. The bench recorded the counsel's argument that the so-called ban under threat of violence stems not from any lawful process but from a deliberate campaign of terror, including explicit threat of arson against cinema halls, incitement of large-scale violence targeting linguistic minorities. It added that the Karnataka government through its authorities concerned has become a silent party to this undermining of the Constitution and its failure to use the full force of the law against those openly issuing threats of death, arson, and communal warfare is not just negligence; it is a surrender that effectively hands control to violent non-state actors. 'This constitutes a profound and flagrant failure of the law and order machinery in the state, signifying a dangerous weakening of the constitutional machinery's ability to function and protect its citizens,' the SC said.
