Arab Contractors, China's CSCEC to form alliance for project development across Africa: Housing Minister
Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sherif El-Sherbiny met with Zheng Xuexuan, Chairperson of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), at the company's headquarters in Beijing to discuss ongoing and future collaboration between Egypt and China in the construction sector.
The meeting reviewed progress on several major joint projects, including the Central Business District (CBD) in Egypt's New Administrative Capital (NAC) and the Downtown Towers project in New Alamein. Discussions also addressed the operational readiness of the NAC's CBD and how to leverage CSCEC's expertise in operations and maintenance.
The meeting, attended by Egypt's Ambassador to China Khaled Nazmy and officials from both the Ministry of Housing and CSCEC, was held within the context of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
CSCEC Chairperson Zheng Xuexuan described Egypt as a key partner for the company in the Middle East and North Africa, citing significant progress in recent years. 'The cooperation between our two sides has been fruitful, and we are keen to deepen this partnership to make our joint projects a hallmark of success for both nations,' he said.
Minister El-Sherbiny affirmed CSCEC's role as a vital partner in Egypt's development plans, emphasizing the government's commitment to advancing current projects on schedule. 'We value CSCEC's technical capabilities, particularly in construction, operations, and maintenance. In this phase, we aim to tap into your expertise as we prepare to operate the CBD,' he said.
The Minister noted that the Ministry of Housing is providing all necessary support to ensure the success of joint ventures, while also exploring avenues for broader collaboration, particularly in Egypt's industrial zones and new urban communities.
'We look forward to expanding CSCEC's investments across key sectors in Egypt and, importantly, to forming a strategic alliance between CSCEC and one of our leading national firms, Arab Contractors,' El-Sherbiny added. 'Together, they can implement landmark projects across the African continent.'
CSCEC's Chairperson welcomed the proposal to partner with Arab Contractors, describing it as an excellent initiative. He underscored the company's experience in delivering international projects and expressed admiration for the capabilities of Egyptian engineers and laborers.
Zheng also noted that CSCEC has recently established two factories in Egypt for steel products and building facades, with plans for further development. He emphasized the importance of completing the NAC's Central Business District to the highest international standards and ensuring proper long-term management and maintenance.
'We have a specialized subsidiary focused on operations and maintenance,' he said. 'We look forward to collaborating with the Ministry of Housing not only on the CBD but also on future projects across the region.'

OPEN// Foreign ministry stresses need to comply with Gaza border visit regulations
CAIRO, June 11 (MENA) - Egypt has welcomed the official and popular international and regional positions supporting Palestinian rights and rejecting the blockade, starvation tactics, and systematic and flagrant Israeli violations against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates affirmed that Egypt continues to work at all levels to end the aggression on Gaza and to bring an end to the humanitarian catastrophe impacting more than two million Palestinians. In this context and in light of recent requests and inquiries regarding visits by foreign delegations to the border areas adjacent to Gaza, especially Arish City and Rafah border crossing, Egypt stresses the necessity of obtaining prior approvals to conduct such visits, the ministry said. The only acceptable way for Egyptian authorities to consider these requests is by adhering to the regulatory framework and procedures established since the start of the war on Gaza, according to the statement. This includes submitting official requests to Egyptian embassies abroad, or through requests submitted by foreign embassies in Cairo or representatives of organizations to the foreign ministry, it said. Numerous visits have already been arranged for foreign delegations either representing governmental bodies or non-governmental human rights organizations, the ministry said. 'Egypt underlines the importance of adhering to these established regulations to ensure the safety of visiting delegations given the sensitive and volatile nature of the border area since the beginning of the Gaza crisis.' 'In this regard, Egypt reaffirms that no requests will be considered nor any invitations will be responded to if they fall outside the approved regulatory framework and established mechanisms,' the statement said. 'Egypt also underlines the importance that all foreign nationals must comply with Egyptian laws and entry regulations, including obtaining the necessary visas or pre-approved permits. 'Finally, Egypt reiterates its unwavering stance in support of the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and its rejection of Israel's blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law. 'It further stresses the importance of exerting pressure on Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza and to allow humanitarian access through all Israeli-controlled crossings with the Strip.' China, Africa push implementation of FOCAC Beijing Summit outcomes
SEENEWS (Xinhua) Representatives of China, 53 African countries and the African Union Commission gathered in Changsha on Wednesday to advance the full implementation of the outcomes achieved at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). At the opening ceremony of the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the FOCAC, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his counterpart of the Republic of the Congo Jean-Claude Gakosso read out the congratulatory letters from their heads of state. The Republic of the Congo is the African co-chair of the FOCAC. Chinese President Xi Jinping expounded in the letter the significance of China-Africa solidarity and cooperation and announced important measures for further opening up and cooperation with Africa, which Wang said provide important guidance for both sides as they seek to jointly promote modernization and build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era. The FOCAC has grown rapidly in the 25 years since its establishment, leading China-Africa relations to achieve leapfrog development and enter the best period in history. Both sides have made solid progress in the implementation of the 10 partnership actions for modernization announced at the FOCAC Beijing Summit held last September, according to Wang. China and Africa, as the largest developing country and the continent with the highest concentration of developing countries, are emerging as pivotal forces of the Global South, Wang said. "Faced with an international situation marked by changes and turmoil, China and Africa should uphold solidarity and self-reliance more than ever," he said, calling on both sides to respond to uncertainties in the world with a stable and resilient China-Africa relationship. Both sides should preserve solidarity of the Global South, champion international free trade, support global development cooperation, defend a just international order and promote civilizational diversity, he said. Wang said the 21st century is as much Asia's century as it is Africa's, adding that as long as the more than 2.8 billion people of China and Africa work together, they will surely achieve brilliant progress in the path to modernization. On behalf of the African countries, Gakosso said African countries thank China for supporting their development, welcome the 10 partnership actions for modernization, and support the China-Africa Cooperation Vision 2035. He added that the African countries are willing to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit to help the African people realize their aspiration for a better life. The African side opposes the act of abusing tariffs and unilateral sanctions and will stand with China to jointly deal with challenges, Gakosso said.
