Govt Buses To Get 360-Degree Cameras, Driver Monitoring Systems In THIS State
The move follows an announcement made by Transport and Electricity Minister S.S. Sivasankar during the debate on the Transport Department's demand for grants in the Assembly. According to tender notifications issued by the IRT, the government plans to equip 4,000 buses with 360-degree surveillance camera systems at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore. In addition, a pilot project worth Rs 2 crore will introduce Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) in 500 buses.
Each bus under the camera project will be fitted with four high-definition wide-angle cameras, providing a full panoramic view that helps eliminate blind spots. Priced at Rs 37,500 per unit, these cameras will come with features such as wide dynamic range (WDR), auto white balance, digital noise reduction, and infrared capability for low-light conditions. The systems will also support encrypted data transmission and comply with established data protection norms.
Minister Sivasankar had earlier informed the Assembly that the 360-degree surveillance systems will aid in detecting pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles that are often missed by conventional mirrors, especially in congested urban areas.
The real-time footage will also serve as valuable legal evidence in the event of road accidents.
The Driver Monitoring System (DMS) units, each costing Rs 40,000, will employ artificial intelligence and infrared sensors to monitor drivers for signs of fatigue, distraction, or drowsiness. These systems will track eye movements, head position, and posture, and provide real-time alerts to allow for immediate corrective action.
Additionally, each DMS unit will record behavioural data to support post-trip analysis and help plan training interventions for drivers.
The current rollout on 500 buses is a pilot phase, with the potential for a wider implementation depending on its effectiveness and feedback from transport authorities. This initiative marks a significant technological upgrade for Tamil Nadu's public transport system and is expected to improve both passenger safety and driver accountability across the fleet.

CM asks mins to supervise ‘Amader Para' camps to solve local issues
Kolkata: With the footfall of Amader Para Amader Samadhan (APAS) crossing 25 lakh on Monday, at 4,654 camps held so far, chief minister Mamata Banerjee asked ministers to supervise the event in their respective districts and address local grievances. During the cabinet meeting on Monday, the CM told the ministers to coordinate with the DMs to overcome bureaucratic delays in solving small issues like putting up street lights or repairing a tap. The CM also chalked out plans so that the APAS camps cover over 80,000 booths in the state ahead of the 2026 assembly polls. The APAS camps started on Aug 2 and will continue till Nov 3. As many as 28,529 camps are scheduled to take place across the state. On Monday, 739 APAS camps were held, with a footfall of 4.3 lakh. The CM allocated Rs 8,000 crore for the APAS programme, with Rs10 lakh to be spent for each booth. She set up a task force headed by chief secretary Manoj Pant to monitor the programme. Medical device park to house food courts, gyms
Noida: As part of common facilities at the medical device park (MDP), gyms, food courts, and recreation zones worth Rs 14 crore will be developed in Sector 28. YEIDA officials said the planned recreation facilities – open spaces, gardens, parks, shaded seating areas, walkways, lighting, children's play equipment, gyms, public toilets, and drinking water points – are meant to make the MDP a self-sufficient centre. The plan also covers kiosks, seating areas, and a dedicated bank building . YEIDA plans to award the contract by the end of this month. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months. Once appointed, the contractor will be responsible for maintaining the roads for five years and other works for one year after completion. The park is being developed with Rs 100 crore in central govt funding—Rs 60 crore of which has already been released. About 70% of this will go towards equipment, and the rest towards construction. The UP govt will contribute an additional Rs 339 crore, with Rs 239 crore already spent on land development. The administrative building is complete, and other facilities are under development. Spread over 350 acres, the park will have 254 plots. So far, 89 plots have been allotted, lease deeds signed for 23, and building plans approved for 10 companies.

Mohali: With municipal elections barely seven months away, Mohali mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu's demand for Rs 600 crore to address civic issues has triggered a political slugfest. Opposition parties have accused the Congress mayor of failing to deliver during his tenure and questioned the timing of the request for funds. SAD Mohali in-charge Parminder Singh Sohana said the proposal was impractical so close to elections. "The irony is that the mayor seeks Rs 600 crore when there is hardly any time left to utilise it. Tendering works of this scale will take months. This is nothing but an attempt to make personal gains," he alleged. BJP's Mohali unit chief Sanjeev Vashisht launched an equally scathing attack on the mayor. "In the past four years, the Congress mayor completely failed the city. Mohali residents are ready to oust him. He should step down on moral grounds," Vashisht said, adding that BJP aims to install its own mayor in the next term. Sidhu blamed AAP-led govt for withholding funds. "We have been demanding Rs 600 crore for a long time, but our local MLA has been the biggest obstacle.
