CALGARY — Hockey Canada has invited 20 para hockey players to a national team orientation camp in Calgary as first step toward the 2026 Paralympic Games. The roster includes 16 players who helped Canada win gold at the 2024 world championship, as well as nine who claimed a silver medal at the 2022 Paralympic Games in Beijing. Defenders Rob Armstrong, Zach Lavin and Tyrone Henry, forwards Adam Dixon, Liam Hickey, James Dunn, Tyler McGregor and Anton Jacobs-Webb and goaltender Adam Kingsmill played on both squads. Will Cuylle Will Be The Rangers' Biggest X-Factor For the 2025-26 Season

The New York Rangers' biggest X-factor going into the 2025-25 season is Will Cuylle. From his first to second season in the NHL, Cuylle made significant strides as he went from recording 21 points to 45 points. In addition to his increased point total, Cuylle transformed into a reliable two-way forward, becoming a consistent penalty killer for the Rangers and he made a significant impact from a defensive standpoint. Now, it feels as if the sky's the limit for Cuylle going into his third season. The 23-year-old forward will have an opportunity to solidify himself as a sure-fire top-six forward, which would be crucial in filling the void of Chris Kreider, who was traded to the Anaheim Ducks. Cuylle may possibly play alongside J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad to start the season, a trio that showed a lot of promise during parts of the 2024-25 campaign. The Rangers Should Choose Between J.T. Miller, Adam Fox, Or Vincent Trocheck To Become The Team's Next Captain There are three clear candidates for who should ultimately become the New York Rangers' next captain. It's Cuylle's impact he contributes at both ends of the ice that makes him invaluable and crucial to the Rangers' success moving forward. If he continues to make strides, Cuylle has the potential to be an All-Star caliber player and help propel the Blueshirts to great heights.

Daulton Varsho returns for Blue Jays, while concussion sends George Springer to IL

With the trade deadline behind the team, things are moving rapidly for the Toronto Blue Jays in advance of a three-game weekend series against the Kansas City Royals. For starters, outfielder Daulton Varsho has returned from a lengthy 52-game stint on the injured list due to a hamstring strain and was activated for Friday's series opener at the Rogers Centre. As well, right-handed reliever Louis Varland — who was acquired just prior to Thursday's Major League Baseball trade deadline — has made it to the downtown dome and will be active for Friday's contest. On the downside, after taking a pitch to the head in Baltimore, George Springer has been diagnosed with a concussion and has been placed on the seven-day injured list, retroactive to July 29. On some levels, it will be a relief for Jays players to have the deadline behind them, knowing that the roster basically is set for the final two months of the regular season. The return of Varsho, a popular teammate and an elite centre fielder, also is a huge injection into the clubhouse and has the possibility of feeling like another trade-deadline acquisition. The Jays certainly will be looking to resume their recent hot run that has seen them sprint out to a 64-46 record and first place in the American League East, 3.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees. Blue Jays make late deal with Twins for reliever Louis Varland and first baseman Ty France Did Blue Jays do enough at trade deadline? It's in Shane Bieber's right hand now General manager Ross Atkins believes the influx of new players at the deadline will fill some needs for the team as they look to cement home-field advantage and a first-round bye for the post-season. The biggest of the deadline acquisitions, right-handed starter Shane Bieber, also made it to Toronto on Friday and had a busy afternoon schedule discussing what his next step will be as he continues to rehab from last year's Tommy John surgery. Also on hand is first baseman Ty France, who came to the Jays with Varland, in the deadline day deal with the Minnesota Twins.
