Spider Man actor Tobey Maguire finally responds to divorce filing, and he wants joint custody of son Otis

Time of India4 days ago
It has been nearly five years since Jennifer Meyer filed for divorce from Tobey Maguire, but the actor has now responded officially, seeking joint legal and physical custody of their son, Otis. According to court documents obtained by People, the Spider-Man star also wants spousal and child support to be decided privately.
Maguire, now 50, has kept a low profile since the separation, but this legal step marks a shift in his once-quiet stance.
Tobey Maguire breaks silence on 2020 divorce filing
Maguire and Meyer initially announced their split in 2016 after nine years of marriage, with a joint statement promising to remain committed co-parents to their two children. At the time, sources close to the couple claimed they had "completely different lifestyles" and had been living apart for a while.
Insiders suggested that Maguire preferred staying out of the public eye while Meyer embraced her social life. Despite their differences, they stayed united as parents, especially for their daughter Ruby, who recently turned 18.
New chapters and new engagements
Since the split, Meyer has moved on with luxury. Last year, she revealed her engagement to Geoffrey Ogunlesi, the son of Nigerian billionaire and investment banker Adebayo Ogunlesi. While Maguire has stayed mostly out of the tabloid spotlight, the recent custody filing shows he is actively taking part in his children's future.
Maguire's legal request only concerns their son Otis, who is still a minor. Their daughter Ruby is now legally an adult, having graduated from high school this June. Both parents shared the milestone online, with Meyer calling Ruby the 'graduate of our dreams' and expressing immense pride in her.
Co-parenting with respect still stands
Even with the delayed legal response, the foundation of mutual respect between Maguire and Meyer seems solid. Maguire's filing aligns with their original intention to co-parent peacefully. And despite the split and Meyer's new engagement, their united front at Ruby's graduation proves they are still committed to their children—just in separate lives.
