Selangor cops bust Alstonia Gang in Klang Valley, seize RM5.11m worth of drugs, arrest nine
SHAH ALAM, June 6 — Police busted a drug trafficking syndicate known as the Alstonia Gang after arresting nine suspects, including a foreign woman, and seizing various types of drugs worth RM5.11 million in five separate raids around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor on Tuesday (June 3).
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said among those arrested were the gang leader, a local man working as an e-hailing driver and his foreign lover, who are believed to have been actively carrying out drug trafficking activities for the past eight months.
He said that in the first raid on a house in Bukit Jalil at about 5.50 pm, they nabbed a man and a foreign woman and seized MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) powder and juices suspected of containing drugs, each weighing 4,656 grammes and 3,000 millilitres.
'The second raid was conducted on a house in Semenyih and led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of powdery substances believed to be MDMA drugs weighing 230 grammes, followed by a third raid at 6.10 pm in Puchong where a male suspect was held and 966.10 grammes of ecstasy seized.
'At 10.30 pm, we conducted raid number four on a house in Kajang and arrested a man and seized 110 vape cartridges suspected of containing 2,880 grammes of drugs,' he told a media conference here today.
Hussein said the suspect then led police to a house in Kajang, where they seized MDMA powder weighing 21,452 grammes, ketamine (4,722 grammes), ecstasy pills (641 grammes) and erimin 5 pills weighing an estimated 1,960 grammes.
He said that following interrogation, police then arrested three men and a woman around Selangor and Kuala Lumpur who are believed to be involved with the syndicate.
'In addition to the syndicate leader and his lover, who has lived in the country for the past 10 years, seven other suspects, all aged between 24 and 38, worked as food traders, personal shoppers and barbers.
'Six of them tested positive for drugs and three tested negative, while three of them also had previous records related to crime and drugs,' he said.
Hussein said the syndicate targeted entertainment centres around the Klang Valley to sell to individuals via face-to-face interaction and also online.
He added that police also seized five vehicles — Proton Preve, Toyota Vios, Hyundai Sonata, BMW 320i and Honda Civic — jewellery, watches, LV-brand handbags and various cash denominations, with the total seizure amounting to RM341,449.16.
'This success is a result of the intelligence we carried out for two months and all suspects have been remanded for seven days, with the case being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,' he said. — Bernama

BOTA, June 8 — The remains of five victims who perished in a two-vehicle crash at Kilometre 7, Jalan Jerantut-Maran, Pahang, yesterday were laid to rest in a single grave at the Kampung Selat Muslim Cemetery in Bota Kanan here early today. Tanjung Harapan boat capsize: Fire Dept suspects missing victims were swept away by strong currents during towing
KLANG, June 8 — The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has not ruled out the possibility that two missing victims of a boat capsized in the waters off Tanjung Harapan yesterday were swept away by currents while the boat was being towed to the floating jetty of the Selangor Maritime Headquarters here. Port Klang Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) head, Deputy Superintendent Haikal Jammy Ngali said from initial investigations, the boat the victims were on was towed by a public boat for 0.3 nautical miles before they received a distress call regarding the incident at around 5 pm the same day. He said the department also did not rule out the possibility that the victims, who were a married couple, were thrown overboard during the capsize. 'Although the sunken boat was successfully refloated, the two victims being sought were not inside the boat, thus strengthening the fire department's theory that the two victims drifted away with the current. 'So far, the rescue team has only carried out surface search-level as opposed to deep diving because the fire department has not been able to ascertain the exact location of the capsize,' he said at a press conference which was also attended by North Klang police chief ACP S. Vijaya Rao at the search location in Tanjung Harapan here today. Meanwhile, Vijaya said the police party has not found any clues regarding the two missing victims even though the search radius covered an area of five nautical miles. Regarding the refloated boat, he said it would be taken to the Port Klang Marine Police base for further inspection and investigation, including technical aspects. 'In addition, we would also like to inform that the bodies of the three victims, including a three-year-old child who died in the incident, have been claimed by the family after the post-mortem was completed at the Shah Alam Hospital today,' he said. Vijaya also stated that the search and rescue operation was suspended at 7 pm and will resume tomorrow morning. In the capsize of the boat with six on board at about 5 pm, three individuals, including a child, died, while one survivor, Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17, was rescued, and the married couple is still missing. KLANG, June 7 — All victims involved in the capsized boat incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan here yesterday were believed not to be wearing life jackets. North Klang District Police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao said initial investigations also revealed that the boat, which was being test-driven, was operated by its owner at the time. He said the absence of life jackets had made the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the remaining two missing victims among the six people on board more difficult. 'Those who engage in activities at sea must wear life jackets, which are very useful during emergencies like this capsized boat incident, in addition to having swimming skills,' he said at a press conference at the search site in Tanjung Harapan today. Vijaya said the location where the boat capsized had been identified, but strong currents may have swept the two missing victims away and caused them to drown. Meanwhile, he said police had recorded statements from three individuals, including one survivor. 'The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and the case is being investigated under Section 280 of the Penal Code,' he said.
