Be it a structured crossbody or a slouchy hobo tote, a little black bag (like a little black dress and a little black top) has long been the solution to many of my fashion conundrums.
But earlier this week, I walked past the Massimo Dutti store on High Street Kensington and a braided leather shopper in what I can only describe as the most expensive-looking shade of white in the window caught my eye. Instantly, I opened the app and bookmarked it.
Admittedly, I've always avoided bright white handbags because they have a reputation for being seasonal (they're often considered a summer-only accessory) and high maintenance (they're trickier to keep clean or show wear more quickly than dark-coloured handbags).
However, if you look at the designer bags from Burberry, Toteme and Loewe, you'll notice that they come in rich' white colours, like oat, chalk and bone, rather than crisp white hues.
Off-white handbags are easier to maintain and feel more practical. But more importantly, they look just as chic with linen dresses and co-ords in summer, as they do with chunky knits and wool coats come winter, which is why you'll see them slung over every influencer's shoulder.
Ahead, I've shared my pick of the best off-white handbags to buy now and wear into autumn – including, of course, the one from Massimo Dutti that kicked off my obsession, although it's not available to buy online yet.

Eamonn Holmes shares tribute to his dog Maggie after custody battle with his ex-wife Ruth Langsford over the beloved pet in their bitter divorce

Eamonn Holmes shared a loving tribute to his dog Maggie on Sunday after a custody battled during his bitter divorce from Ruth Langsford. The former golden couple of TV shocked the nation last year when they announced that they were divorcing after 14 years. As part of their separation, the couple were said to be locked in a custody battle over the ownership of their beloved pet pooch. Eamonn, 65, shared two pictures of himself with the Border Collie cross the former couple adopted back in 2011 taken almost two decades apart. He wrote: '17 years apart …… and we are both still going - JUST.' Ruth has regularly shared updates of Maggie at home with her and Eamonn posted a video of himself spending time with the dog earlier this year. It is unknown what their official arrangement is for taking care of Maggie. A source previously told The Sun: 'Maggie is like a daughter to them. They dote on her. But she's getting on and they know she needs stability.' The source added: 'It's a case of who can give [Maggie stability]. Eamonn adores her and Maggie's been such a support during his health woes. The thought of giving her up is heartbreaking to him. 'But if Ruth is able to get out and about and walk her more, then it may well be that she gets Maggie in the split.' Eamonn's fans were curious over the arrangement with Maggie and asked in the comments section: 'Do you still see Maggie?' and 'Wish you could you be together'. Others, meanwhile, said that Eamonn was lucky to have spent so long with his dog. They wrote: 'So lucky to still have Maggie after all that time.'; 'Is she 17? She's doing so well.' The post comes soon after Eamonn reportedly took a brutal 'swipe' at Ruth while gushing over his new girlfriend Katie Alexander. The TV presenter found love with Katie, 43, following his divorce from Ruth, 65, in May 2024, when they split after 14 years of marriage and two decades together. Eamonn and Katie have not been shy of showing off their affections for one another and looked very loved-up at GB News star Nana Akua's engagement party last month. While attending the glitzy party, Eamonn seemingly took a swipe at his ex-wife Ruth while discussing his blossoming new relationship, according to Bella Magazine. Eamonn is reported to have described Katie as his 'soulmate', before adding: 'In sickness you find out who is there for you.' A source told Bella magazine of his remark: 'It was an insensitive comment from Eamonn, but he's smitten with Katie and does feel like she has been there for him through the hard times. 'That said, it is a kick in the teeth for Ruth because she has been there for him since the beginning.' Eamonn has battled a number of health problems in recent years, including a double hip replacement surgery, slipped discs and ongoing spinal problems. MailOnline has contacted Eamonn's representatives for comment. Eamonn and Katie grew close last summer and began dating soon after, with engagement rumours even swirling in December.

Tim Rice: I would ‘consider' using AI to help write songs

Lyricist Sir Tim Rice has said he would 'consider' using artificial intelligence (AI) to help write songs. The award-winning songwriter, 80, is best known for writing the hit musicals Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber, now Baron Lloyd-Webber. Advertisement Speaking to Jane Mulkerrins on Times Radio, Sir Tim said he has not yet used AI to help write music but is not opposed to it. Sir Tim said: 'I'd certainly consider it. I hadn't ever used it. Perhaps I should. Sir Tim Rice attending Disney's The Lion King European Premiere held in Leicester Square, London (Ian West/PA) 'I was doing a cricket speech at lords, and AI had only just come to the attention of the public, and I asked it to write a quick Shakespeare sonnet on cricket, which was really quite good. 'So, perhaps I should try it for one or two songs. I've never used it seriously.' Advertisement When asked whether he had concerns around the use of AI in the arts, he said: 'If I'm honest, no, I'm not sure. 'Nobody quite knows what it will do. I mean, it might create more jobs. Don't ask me how, but these things could happen. It's a bit like saying in 1979, do you think the mobile phone will cause a lot of hassle? And it's got great benefits but also great disadvantages and I wouldn't begin to know that. Rachel Zegler plays Eva Peron in Jamie Lloyd's new production of Evita at the London Palladium (Jordan Pettitt/PA) 'The other thing is, I'm getting on a bit, and I'm not going to (be here) in 20 years' time. I'm not gonna be too worried about AI unless they can bring me back to life.' The lyricist also praised actress Rachel Zegler for her performance of Eva Peron in the West End production of Evita, a musical which follows the story of Peron as she rises from poverty to become the most powerful woman in Latin America. Advertisement The 24-year-old has made headlines this summer for singing the musical's most popular number, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, from a balcony outside the London Palladium theatre. Directed by Jamie Lloyd, the artistic choice means passers-by are able to be part of the production and witness the live rendition while ticketed audience members watch the number from a screen inside the theatre. Sir Tim said: 'The cast are excellent. Rachel Zegler is a force of nature, I believe is the cliche best applied. 'She sings it beautifully and the idea of having her going out onto the balcony, into the real street, is a work of genius, and also great work of PR and I enjoyed it.' Advertisement
