Be it a structured crossbody or a slouchy hobo tote, a little black bag (like a little black dress and a little black top) has long been the solution to many of my fashion conundrums.
But earlier this week, I walked past the Massimo Dutti store on High Street Kensington and a braided leather shopper in what I can only describe as the most expensive-looking shade of white in the window caught my eye. Instantly, I opened the app and bookmarked it.
Admittedly, I've always avoided bright white handbags because they have a reputation for being seasonal (they're often considered a summer-only accessory) and high maintenance (they're trickier to keep clean or show wear more quickly than dark-coloured handbags).
However, if you look at the designer bags from Burberry, Toteme and Loewe, you'll notice that they come in rich' white colours, like oat, chalk and bone, rather than crisp white hues.
Off-white handbags are easier to maintain and feel more practical. But more importantly, they look just as chic with linen dresses and co-ords in summer, as they do with chunky knits and wool coats come winter, which is why you'll see them slung over every influencer's shoulder.
Ahead, I've shared my pick of the best off-white handbags to buy now and wear into autumn – including, of course, the one from Massimo Dutti that kicked off my obsession, although it's not available to buy online yet.
