Brian Montana: Guitarist of Death Metal Band Possessed Shot Dead During Standoff with Police in San Francisco

A Bay Area-based death metal legend was shot dead by cops in San Francisco this week after a dispute with a neighbor over tree clippings that escalated into violence. Possessed guitarist, Brian Montana, 60, was shot dead by cops after pointing a weapon at his neighbor, according to the South San Francisco Police Department, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
On Wednesday, his band paid tribute to Montana through its Instagram Stories, posting a photo of him with the message, "Rest In Peace Brian Montana." The music outlet Consequence identified Montana as the person on the left in the tribute image. Montana's death is being mourned by thousands of his fans.
Killed after Turning Violent
One neighbor sustained non-life-threatening injury during the shootout, in which Montana hid behind parked vehicles and landscaping while firing at police for nearly 30 minutes using three different firearms, according to CBS Bay Area.
Police said that Montana "fired multiple times at officers with a handgun, shotgun, and rifle." Officers took cover behind their patrol cars and returned fire. Montana was hit during the exchange and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities responded to a call around 6 p.m. local time on the 300 block of Arroyo Drive after receiving reports of an armed man threatening a neighbor.
Montana, an early member of the band, was reportedly "enraged" over debris from a nearby tree, which police said sparked the deadly confrontation, according to the newspaper.
Officers told the station that they saw a man—later confirmed to be Montana—firing a gun at someone inside a house. Police said Montana was then seen moving toward a driveway, where he took cover behind a parked car and some landscaping.
From there, he began shooting at officers using three different weapons. Montana was given first aid but was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Cursed Band
Possessed, a prominent name in the death metal circle with over 195,000 followers on Instagram, is currently on tour promoting their album Revelations of Oblivion, according to their social media. Authorities said that the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, following standard procedures.
Authorities also said that more details — including video and audio recordings from the deadly encounter — will be made available to the public later.
The incident is currently being investigated by the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, police told the newspaper.
Montana is the second member of Possessed to be involved in a shooting. In 1989, the band's lead singer, Jeff Becerra, was shot twice during a robbery, an incident that left him paralyzed from the waist down, according to Livewire.

Jared Leto facing allegations from 9 women of inappropriate behaviour, Entertainment News

Jared Leto is facing allegations from nine women of inappropriate behaviour, including with a teenage girl. The frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars and star of films including House of Gucci and Suicide Squad, 53, is alleged to have inflicted the behaviour on them over the course of nearly two decades, and the accusations involve women who say they were teenagers at the time of the alleged incidents. According to an expose published by Air Mail, the claims, which have apparently circulated in Hollywood for years, have now been brought into the open, with one woman stating to the outlet: "It's been an open secret for a long time." The accusations came to light after Los Angeles-based DJ Allie Teilz, 30, re-shared a 2012 Facebook post on her Instagram Stories, in which she alleged Jared assaulted her when she was 17. She claimed: "You're not really in LA until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… in a kilt… And a snow hat. "I was assaulted and traumatised by this creep when I was 17." She further alleged Jared "knew" her age but "didn't care", describing his actions as "predatory, terrifying and unacceptable". A second woman, who remained anonymous, told Air Mail Jared approached her in 2006 when she was 16 at Urth Caffe in Los Angeles. She said: "I looked down and it was Jared Leto. We had a quick conversation, and he got my number." She claimed the actor called her days later, adding: "I don't know if he was on drugs or what… it was the weirdest, grossest voice… (but) for me, it's Jared, you know?" The woman alleged their late-night conversations "turned sexual", and claimed Leto asked: "Have you ever had a boyfriend? Have you ever sucked a d***?" Model Laura La Rue, 33, also alleged she met Leto in 2008 when she was 16 and he was 36, at a Yes! on Prop Two animal rights benefit. She said: "He asked how old I was. I said, 'I'm 16. How old are you?'" La Rue claimed Jared still asked for her number despite knowing her age, and later invited her to his Los Angeles home, where he was "flirting" and "teasing (her) the whole time (she) was there." [[nid:717248]] Jared's representative denied La Rue's and the other accounts to Air Mail, stating: "Their communications contain nothing sexual or inappropriate and Ms La Rue later applied to work as Mr Leto's personal assistant, further underscoring the absence of anything inappropriate in any of their interactions." La Rue denied applying for such a role. More females made accusations against Jared to Air Mail, while sources also described parties at his Los Angeles home with a ratio of 60 "very young women to four or five men", where guests were allegedly encouraged to skinny dip. Jared's publicist said the actor "has not had a drink or used drugs in over 35 years".

Three Iranians in UK court accused of assisting Tehran spy service

LONDON - Three Iranian men appeared in court in London on Friday accused of assisting Iran's foreign intelligence service and plotting violence against journalists working for a British-based broadcaster critical of Tehran. The three men - Mostafa Sepahvand, 39, Farhad Javadi Manesh, 44, and Shapoor Qalehali Khani Noori, 55, - have been charged with offences under Britain's National Security Act, brought in to give the authorities new powers to target threats from foreign states. They are accused of "engaging in conduct likely to assist a foreign intelligence service" between August 2024 and February this year, and police have said that it related to Iran. Sepahvand is also charged with carrying out surveillance in preparation to commit serious violence against a person, while Manesh and Noori were charged with surveillance with the intention that serious violent acts would be committed by others. The men appeared by videolink on Friday for a brief hearing at London's Old Bailey court during which their lawyers said all intended to plead not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors told a hearing last month that the allegations involved the targeting of journalists based in Britain connected with Iran International, a broadcaster critical of the Iranian government. They were remanded in custody until a formal plea hearing on September 26 and they are due to go on trial in October next year. The suspects were arrested last month on the same day counter-terrorism police detained five other men, including four Iranians, as part of a separate operation. Those men were later released without charge. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

Fugitive ponzi scheme boss assumed dead may be alive, London police say

Anthony Constantinou stole at least £70 million (S$122 million) from investors he lured with the promise of risk free returns. PHOTO ILLUSTRATION: UNSPLASH LONDON – The fugitive boss of a bogus London FX firm convicted as the mastermind behind a Ponzi-style investment scheme was thought to have died in Mexico while on the run, but London police are not so sure. Anthony Constantinou stole at least £70 million (S$122 million) from investors he lured with the promise of risk free returns, and was sentenced to 14 years in prison in his absence. News outlets including UK tabloid The Sun and Miami-based website OffshoreAlert reported that Constantinou died of a heart attack in July 2024 while in Guadalajara, Mexico. A death certificate has been filed in Mexico and seen by the City of London Police, but investigators remain unconvinced that Constantinou has actually died, according to lawyers at a court hearing on June 5. They have evidence of Constantinou's cremation within 24 hours of his death, but some of the documents reviewed contain inaccuracies, including that Constantinou's mother was Mexican. He is known to be of Greek-Cypriot heritage. 'There remains an active search for his whereabouts,' prosecution lawyer David Durose said in court. 'If there were more legitimate grounds to believe that the defendant may have died the Crown would be looking more carefully at it.' Constantinou had no legal representation at the hearing. The police want to recover some of the investor cash that was lost in the scheme and asked the judge to make an order that would help them seize assets. So far recoveries have been minimal, despite Constantinou enjoying a lavish lifestyle, with money being traced through a number of offshore jurisdictions. Constantinou was sentenced in his absence after he disappeared weeks into his trial in 2023. A warrant for his arrest was issued shortly after. Weeks after he disappeared, he was arrested in Bulgaria for carrying fake identification documents, but for unknown reasons, he was let go. His firm, CWM, lured in victims with false promises of generous returns on risk-free foreign exchange market transactions and lavish perks. Operating out of an office in the City of London's Heron Tower, he enticed investors from late 2013 by boasting of generous returns on allegedly risk-free foreign exchange market transactions, for a minimum investment of £100,000. Client funds were also used to boost Constantinou's lifestyle including his £2.5 million wedding in Santorini, the court heard.
