Fadhlina explained that digital transformation in Malaysia's education system must prioritise human capital development and teacher professionalism. She noted that technological advancements are only meaningful when supported by knowledgeable and creative educators.
During the event, two teachers were honoured as Digital Teacher Icons for their contributions to digital education. Mohammad Aliff Halmi from SK Tampang, Penang, was named Guru Penyelaras Teknologi, Komunikasi dan Maklumat (ICT) Icon, while El Gamillo Habibun Tan from SK Bukit Gasing, Terengganu, received the Guru Peneraju Generasi Digital Icon award. Both winners received RM800 and a trophy.
In the District Education Office (PPD) category, PPD Dungun took first place, followed by PPD Batu Pahat and PPD Alor Gajah. Winners received trophies and tablets sponsored by the National Book Council of Malaysia.
The DUTA 2024 ceremony, introduced in 2020, recognises excellence in digital education among students, teachers, and education leaders, reinforcing MOE's commitment to ethical and innovative tech use in schools. - Bernama

NAIROBI, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The 10th edition of the Africa Tech Challenge (ATC), sponsored by Chinese firm AVIC International, officially commenced on Monday in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, reaffirming efforts to equip African youth with practical, market-ready technical skills. Hosted by Kenya's Ministry of Education, AVIC Innovation Holding Limited, and the China Education Association for International Exchange, the initiative features 142 teams comprising 568 participants from 12 African countries. This year's event includes a month-long training phase from Monday to Aug. 27 before culminating in a two-day competition from Aug. 28 to 29, with participants competing in three categories: mobile application development, mechanical engineering, and computer numerical control turning. Esther Mworia, principal secretary in Kenya's State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, said the ATC has, over the past decade, offered a platform to reskill African youth, drive innovation, and hasten economic growth. "This remarkable initiative continues to be a beacon of innovation, skills development, and youth empowerment across Africa," Mworia said, hailing the contribution of Chinese firms in building a critical mass of technically skilled youth on the continent. According to Mworia, more than 1,300 young Africans have benefited from previous editions of the ATC, gaining hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing techniques, including computer numerical control machining and design technologies. Wang Runlan, president of AVIC INNO Project Engineering Company, said that the ATC has been instrumental in transforming the livelihoods of African youth by providing technical training, mentorship, and real-world industry exposure. According to Wang, Chinese enterprises are committed to sustainable development in Africa by nurturing local talent and creating jobs and business opportunities for the youth. "We celebrate more than technical skills; we celebrate resilience and ambition," Wang said, adding that ATC participants will immerse themselves in rigorous learning, pushing boundaries, and discovering their potential. The top two winners of this year's ATC will be awarded fully-funded scholarships to pursue further studies in China, while the runners-up will be awarded cash prizes.

FWD Insurance Sponsors 40 Digital Smartboards For Schools Under PPD Keramat
KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- FWD Insurance Berhad (FWD Insurance) has announced a RM400,000 sponsorship to deliver 40 digital smartboards to 35 schools under the Keramat District Education Office (PPD). In a statement, FWD Insurance said the initiative, which aligns with the Ministry of Education's (MOE) digitalisation agenda, aims to equip students with critical financial knowledge and digital learning tools from an early age. The official handover was led by FWD Insurance Chief Executive Officer Mak See Sen, together with Deputy District Education Officer (Curriculum Sector), Mohd Helmy Abdul Najib. 'The smartboard distribution aligns with Thrusts 4 and 6 of MOE Digital Education Policy, which aim to empower strategic partners to equip schools with appropriate infrastructure for the implementation of digital learning. 'The policy also supports Keramat PPD's Bring Your Own Device to School (BYODS) Programme, which has been in place since 2021,' the statement said. To date, the smartboards have already been installed across the participating schools, and students are actively using them in their learning, said FWD Insurance. 'These devices serve as key tools to promote the integration of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) into the classroom, further underscoring FWD Insurance's dedication to making financial education accessible to all,' it said. Rural schools included in Malaysia's digital education transformation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has assured that rural schools are not being left behind in the implementation of the national education digitalisation policy, said Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh. He said claims that rural schools were being marginalised were inaccurate, noting that out of 110 educational institutions involved in the hybrid class pilot project, 41 were rural schools - demonstrating the MOE's commitment to a fair and inclusive approach. 'This clearly shows that in every initiative or project, MOE ensures no school is left behind or marginalised in the digital transformation of education. 'This year, the ministry will also implement a pilot project for the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered classroom programme involving 11 schools, including one in Sarawak - Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lanang,' he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. Wong was replying to a supplementary question from Ahmad Johnie Zawawi (GPS-Igan), who asked for assurance that rural schools would not be left behind in the implementation of the education digitalisation programme. In a related development, Wong also said that as of June 2025, a total of 405,158 education service officers (PPP) have undergone digital competency training as part of efforts to equip teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills in the digital field. He said that of the total, 23.81 per cent were at the basic level, 74.37 per cent at the intermediate level, while 1.81 per cent had reached the advanced level. He also informed the Dewan Rakyat that the ministry is currently in the fourth phase of enhancing information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, involving 1,801 schools that are still lacking in ICT equipment. 'To address this, a total of 31,724 devices will be distributed under an allocation of RM230 million. The implementation, scheduled from 2025 to 2030, is currently in the procurement assessment phase,' he said. - Bernama
