Boston Celtics' Payton Pritchard shares reaction to Jaden Springer trade
Since waiving Springer, Brad Stevens has moved to acquire Torrey Craig on what is likely a prorated veteran minimum deal. Nevertheless, the decision to part with Springer, who had been impressive in recent weeks, was certainly a shock to some members of the rotation.
During a recent postgame news conference after the Celtics fell to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, Feb. 6, Payton Pritchard shared his immediate reaction to the news the Celtics had traded Springer. Pritchard praised Springer's professionalism and defensive impact.

Kendrick Perkins shares harrowing death threat tale over Giannis Antetokounmpo ‘Robin' take
Kendrick Perkins' hot takes are getting people a little too worked up. The former NBA champion and ESPN personality revealed on the 'Road Trippin'' podcast with Channing Frye that Milwaukee Bucks fans went wild after he said that Giannis Antetokounmpo was the 'Robin' to Khris Middleton's 'Batman' during the 2021 NBA Finals. 'I started getting a death threat,' Perkins said during the podcast. 'It was going to my wife's account. This dude was sending me threat after threat. 'I am going to kill your kids. I know where you stay. I am going to murder you.' This was real life.' 3 Kendrick Perkins on the Road Trippin' podcast with Channing Frye and Allie LaForce. YouTube/Road Trippin' The fan took some serious umbrage at Perkins' characterization of Antetokounmpo and Middleton's roles — in Batman lingo — on the 2021 Bucks. 'I've been preaching time and time again that [Middleton is] the Batman of this team and Giannis is the Robin and look,' Perkins said in 2021, 'it's okay to be the Robin — people think that's a bad thing. It's not.' 3 Giannis Antetoukounmpo was caleld Robin to Khris Middleton's Batman in 2021 by Kendrick Perkinns. Getty Images Perkins shared the messages with ESPN and who helped identify the sender, who was later arrested. 'They found the dude and locked him up,' the ex-Celtics star said. 'This is true, and he was like, 'No, no. I wasn't serious.' Like, nah, motherf–ker, you're going to jail. Don't play like that.' Perkins' harrowing tale came as part of a broader discussion about gambling in basketball, in particular regarding Michael Porter Jr., who sent a scary warning to the NBA about fixing player prop bets. Porter's brother, Jontay, was banished from the NBA for manipulating his player props, pulling himself out of games with mystery illnesses or injuries so his Under wagers would win. 3 Kendrick Perkins revealed he received death threats for his comments about NBAE via Getty Images The new Nets' star expressed displeasure about death threats he had received from NBA bettors who threatened to kill him for not helping them win their bet. Perkins added some advice for Porter if he's receiving threats: tell the NBA and let them deal with it in the same way ESPN did for him. 'The work might be about basketball,' Perkins said, 'but the stakes can be much higher.'

Durant, Rockets reportedly have 'no sense of urgency' to get contract extension done
Kevin Durant is entering the final season of his current contract, paying him $54.7 million, and part of what he was looking for in a landing spot was a team willing to pay him a healthy extension off that contract. The Houston Rockets are willing to do that. However, there is no urgency on either side to get this extension done, ESPN's Tim MacMahon said earlier this week on NBA Today. 'There's not a sense of urgency to get it done right now. The Rockets have other business that they need to handle this summer. … I think you're going to see both sides take a patient approach. They will work together. I don't think this is an urgent situation, and even if they get to camp, even if they get to the start of the season. If it's not done, I don't think you're going to see panic from either side. They want to work together, they want to position themselves to win a championship.' The deal is going to get done, the only question is money. MacMahon echoed what we have written about previously: This is not going to be a contract for the two-year, $122 million max, and the question is what number will it be? $100 million? Less? (No team can offer Durant more than two years on a contract due to the over-38 rule.) Whatever that number ends up being, we're a long way from any serious drama about an extension being reached. Both sides want to get a deal done, and technically they have until June 30, 2026, to work it out. Until we get to around the All-Star break, there's not much to stress over.

Former Boston Celtics, New York Knicks Star Plotting UFC Career after Retirement?
Former New York Knicks and Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis is seriously considering becoming the tallest fighter to ever compete in a mixed martial arts cage. When Porzingis entered the NBA a decade ago at 20 years old, he was dubbed a basketball unicorn. The 7-foot-2 Latvian was able to do stunning things for a player of his size. He was very athletic, could shoot from distance, and was an above-average ball handler. Well, it seems he wants to now be a unicorn in another sport: Cage fighting. Also Read: 'MMA is a sport that is very close to my heart. Number one in terms of viewing. That's the thing I'm going to light up on, so I decided to participate in a new MMA project,' Porzingis told Sporta Centrs this week. 'Everything is still in process. When we approach the final result, I'll be able to tell you more. 'I've tried my hand at MMA, but I promised one of the clubs I represented that I would not do so during my career.' The tallest fighter to ever compete in the UFC and MMA in general is 24-fight veteran Stefan Struve. The Dutch star was 7 feet tall. The Knicks and Celtics veteran would beat him by two inches if he made the jump to MMA when he ended his NBA career. Could Kristaps Porzingis make it to the UFC? If Porzingis were truly dedicated to being a serious MMA fighter, his physical gifts alone would give him a big advantage. It takes a pretty good athlete to make it to the NBA. And when healthy, Porzingis has always been an above-average athlete for a player of his size. The big issue is those long legs that have given him the reputation of being injury-prone. Since it would be difficult for almost all of his opponents to reach his head, they will target his legs. Considering how beat up they already are, they could be a major weakness against a heavyweight that knows how to deliver effective kicks. Could Kristaps Porzingis make it to the UFC? It's possible. More than ever, the UFC has leaned toward the entertainment side of fight sports. While they won't let him compete in the Octagon with no experience like they did for WWE legend CM Punk in 2016, if he scored two or three wins on the regional scene, they could definitely fast-track him to the company to bank big money off his NBA notoriety for at least one fight.
